David Maclean's dedication to Parliament
James Forsyth 6:00pm
David Maclean has received a lot of criticism because of his efforts to exempt Parliament from the Freedom of Information act but we should all be applauding him and wishing him well today. I don’t agree with Maclean on the FOI issue but he does deserve a huge amount of credit for turning up to vote in the Speaker election despite being seriously sick and debilitated by multiple sclerosis.
It says everything about Maclean’s dedication to Parliament that he is prepared to come to the House in an ambulance and in such a bad state that he has to be attended to by two medics so that he can vote. You normally only see people attending the House in this state when their presence makes the difference between a vote being won or lost or a government surviving or not.

I raise my hat (titfer')to him!

Ugly, I know, but surely relevant.

June 24th, 2009 3:29pm Report this commentThis is a MP on the brink of being de selected by his constituency party. This is a MP who flipped his house in Cumbria and avoided £80,000 in capital gains, this is the MP who has has not published his allowances for 2005 because they have been lost !!! This is the MP who used a private members bill to try and exclude MPs from the FOI act. This is a MP who would try anything to recover the good ground. I have to go with Jim, is he fit to represent his constituents ? All will he do anything to stay on the gravy train.
