Immigrants are coming for their jobs, not ours

4:13pm

I’d like to make a statement on behalf of all the main political parties, just because I reckon they really want to say this but can’t possibly do it. It’s about the fact migrants have apparently taken four out of five jobs created since Labour came to power The latest figures seem to show 1.4million workers born abroad have taken jobs in Britain since 1997 – amounting to 81% of the total new jobs created in the last decade.

No doubt there will be outcry about immigrants coming in to take our jobs but for the less hysterical let’s look at the reasons behind this. The fact is new jobs that are created in this day and age tend to be high skilled roles and Britons don’t have the skills to do them. It’s almost exactly a year to the day since Lord Leitch’s report concluded that, “Without increased skills, we condemn ourselves to a lingering decline in competitiveness and a bleaker future for all”.

So without further ado we come to the statement, which I offer from a pan-political platform:

These figures are largely our own fault. Migrants are getting the jobs (not ‘our jobs’ mind you as they’re offered on merit) because we don’t have the skills or the inclination to do a lot of them. We need to pull our finger out. A good start would be banning people from taking media studies courses.

Messrs Brown, Cameron and Cable, you are most welcome.
