The Wiki Man

Matthew d'Ancona 11:58am

Anyone who is interested in the wonderful world of Web 2.0 or simply likes great writing – or both – should read Rory Sutherland’s new technology column starting in tomorrow’s Spectator. As well as being Vice-Chairman of Ogilvy Group UK, and generally regarded as the best writer in his highly competitive business, Rory is a masterly and witty guide to the revolution that is taking place on our phones, computers, ipods and other devices. So if you don’t know your wikinomics from your beta application, and you still think a mouse is a cheese-eating rodent, then this man can help. A warm welcome to the Spectator’s very own Wiki Man.

This man is a legend. A bad dresser but a legend none the less.

I hope he's going to making the case for not buying a MacBook Air. The fact that I don't need it, and can't afford it anyway, don't seem to be dissuading me.

It really is terribly thin, isn't it? And yet noone can adequately explain to me why thinness is such a virtue in a laptop - especially when you consider what has been sacrificed to achieve it: there's no Ethernet port for Gawd's sake.

Love the new column in this week's issue! Superb addition to the magazine. On the subject of the MacBook Air - thinness is a virtue because it is one of the few elements of a laptop that is visible to other observers. Someone sat near you in the Virgin Upper Class lounge cannot see that you have so much gig, ram, rom or whatever (you can see how IT literate I am!!) - but they can see how small, thin etc it is. Therefore it appeals to the innate male need for bragging rights! Shallow, yes. But true none the less. Now, where can I get one!

I want one so bad. I know it's just gizmo porn but I can't help myself. You can never be too thin or too fast.
