Obviously not about the D notice he doesn't? I am always amazed that in the age of the internet, a D notice is effective. There are often vaguely refered to on the net. People have surely got round them. Am I wrong or do knowlegable bloggers have their methods? The Internet is international. Surely it is Spycatcher all over but without the need to travel to America to read a book.

Who on earth is interested in the private lives of broadcasters and journalists? Do I care one jot what these people get up to in their private lives? No. Is this less than fascinating information being supplied to us by Paul Staines under yet another alias - The Skimmer? Perhaps for the sake of honesty and transparency, which seems to be the issue, Coffeehouse readers be told who wrote this article.

Wait on - you're writing under a pseudonym but you demand the right to publish names? The two journalists may have put themselves in the public arena, and hence are fair game, but the love child presumably has not, and so is entitled to what privacy it can get.

Three cheers, Caroline & Andrew. The loaded words are "two great news stories." They aren't - merely prurient tittle-tattle which reeks of our repugnant 'sleb' culture.

Oh please stop being so pompous. The sleb culture is a load of old Tommyrot agreed. But this story isn't about that. Its about the media elite. The talking heads who cant wait to fill the airwaves with their views thinking they are above the salons of the plebs and little people. Journalists (the opinion formers and dare I say it opinion manipulators) and politicians are joined at the hip these days. So its quite right this has been made public. Surely conservatives should be favour of freedom of speech and full disclosure. Or perhaps Caroline, Andrew Aguecheek and salieri think the public should be treated like mushrooms by the media/political nomenklatura.

Now for Caroline to be so exercised on this matter it clearly means that the hacks in question must be closely aligned with her beloved New Labour. Which, to very slightly narrow it down, must mean I guess that it's most likely to be someone in the BBC.

Sorry to disappoint folks. I know nothing about any journalist's personal life from any side of the political divide, and don't want to - in fact most often I resent their arrogant assumption that the public give a damn. Well, obviously some must do but I'm not one of them. Guido's reputation is only for gossip and trivia, and seemed a most likely author to me. It's probably not unknown for folks to go there - but once is an excellent sufficiency.
