Conway "reported" to the police

Peter Hoskin 11:18am

In the headline to my earlier post on the Conway scandal, I wrote: "Conway row to escalate" - and my how it's escalating.  The latest news is that a Lib Dem candidate has reported Conway to the Metropolitan Police.  If this leads anywhere, then David Cameron will certainly live to rue the statement that the Tories issued last night:

“Derek Conway has apologised fully on the floor of the House of Commons and the Whip has not been withdrawn. The appropriate punishment is being administered"

Many feel that Cameron's actions have been "decisively wrong" on this matter, although Nick Robinson notes that there are "small procedural reasons" and "one very big political reason" for why Conway's not in more trouble.  In the face of today's fresh revelations, can he hang on any longer?

Conway if he has any honour should resign as an MP. If not Cameron should withdraw the Tory whip and order Bexley and Old Sidcup to deselect him. The contrast wit Brown's dithering would be startling

I hate the corruption on which Labour is based, so my thoughts on the Tory Conway, simply stated are; sack him. He is unfit for public service and should be barred from ever so attempting to 'serve'.

Many Conservatives have been hankering after clear blue water between them and Labour. Here is an opportunity for clear water full stop (clear and non-murky) - a chance to turn a problem into a massive political advantage. Sadly, I think Mr Cameron has already left it too long and has missed the boat (to continue the watery metaphor). Both honour and pragmatism demand Conway's exemplary punishment by the Conservative Party. Anything less is both cowardly and stupid.

now hopefully all the other MP's doing the same thing are busy checking their paperwork and putting their houses in order. I wouldn't be allowed to pay cash to my family and claim it on expenses in my company - why do the rules allow this in parliament - maybe it is a throw back to an earlier time?

If a labour MP has reported Conway then he is opening up a whole can of worms - many of which will probably wriggle into the pockets of his fellow labour MPs
