Will Kate Hoey and Frank Field be the first MPs to have the whip withdrawn for honouring a manifesto promise?

James Forsyth 4:18pm

Frank Field and Kate Hoey must be the first MPs in history to be threatened with having the whip withdrawn for trying to honour a manifesto commitment. The 2005 Labour manifesto unambiguously committed the party to a referendum on the EU constitution so it is absurd for Geoff Hoon to threaten them with expulsion from the Parliamentary party for campaigning for this very referendum.

It appears that Hoon might be backing down--there is a telling silence about the matter in the Sunday papers. But if he does carry through with his threat he will illustrate just how little value the Labour hierarchy, and net roots it appears, place on manifesto promises.

Hoon has done nothing in his career to be remembered for. This crass attitude could perhaps be the making of his reputation as a 100% idiot.

Hoey is a disgrace to the Labour party and we wont be sad to see her go, good riddance to bad rubbish. Let the Tories have her, she is one anyway.

Frank should have retired long ago, he was Old Labour and more comfortable belonging to a party of opposition than a party of government.

Hoey and Field: the running dogs of integrity. They have no place in current day politics.

In this dictatorship that we laughingly call a democracy, this type of autocratic behaviour should come as no surprise to anyone - except the gullible and the naive.

I said it before on this blog and I'll say it again - Kate Hoey for P.M. and Frank Field for Chancellor. That way Labour might win an election. However, fortunately for us crusty old Tories... heh heh heh
