Soft-touch Britain
Peter Hoskin 8:33am
The Royal United Services Institute delivers a stark warning in a report today – that the Government’s “misplaced deference” to multiculturalism has made Britain a “soft touch” for terrorists. In the wake of the recent Sharia controversy, the Institute’s claim that “The UK presents itself as a target, as a fragmenting, post-Christian society” will have particular resonance.
It’s a damning indictment of the Government, but – according to the report – others are culpable too. Indeed, the “wider muddling of political responsibilities between Westminster and Brussels” plays its part. As do the strategies of NATO and the UN.
All this may just confirm what many know already, but it’s noteworthy that it comes from as esteemed an organisation as RUSI. The hope has to be that theirs is a voice the Government will listen to, particularly with Brown unveiling his National Security Strategy next week.

February 15th, 2008 1:22pmThere is a sense, don't you think, of a widening gyre, of fragmentation, of a centre that cannot hold, that, indeed, the best do lack all conviction and the worst are full of passionate intensity. What will be the cathartic act that brings this nonsense, appeasement and weakness to an end? You can feel it out there, like the heaviness before a storm, waiting to be born.

February 15th, 2008 8:26pmNot just the Government at fault here - it's all three parties or to put it more accurately the whole of the liberal elite London establishment. It should have been the instinctive and historic role of the Conservative Party to stand in oppostion to the flight to "multiculturalism" and appeasement but so cowed has the oh so PC Tory Party become by the BBC/Guardian axis that it is more likely to be Gordon we can expect to see come out next week swinging Boadicea's axe for the native British,

February 16th, 2008 1:25amAt least it's a report of significance if it's known the government will be reading it, and it is speaking a truth known or guessed at by all thinking people. There is no doubt that some things have to spelled out, slowly and carefully to the wayward ones in authority. To get their attention for a few special moments, then hope above hope they are taking it in.
