And now the police step in...
Peter Hoskin 11:25am
It's emerged that Lee Jasper has been suspended from his role as Ken Livingstone's race adviser, as police investigate a number of suspect spending decisions that he had a hand in.
This is the last thing Livingstone needed. He's come under heavy fire recently, but he can expect much worse now there's the whiff of a criminal investigation around his team. Guido's already got his teeth stuck in - pointing out that Livingstone gave his fullest backing to Jasper only 12 hours ago...

February 15th, 2008 1:45pm Report this commentMartin: I fully understand that Jasper and Livingstone initiated things - although I don't think that fact's entirely conclusive (and just leads to more questions). But I think it's pretty likely that Livingstone, in the run-up to an election, won't relish having a member of his team suspended (effectively pending the results of a police investigation). And I suspect the voters won't view it too kindly either.

February 15th, 2008 1:54pm Report this commentIt's good to have comments from a wider audience than the Speccie's cultured readership, even when they have their own agenda, but Mike, why not read some of Boris's articles before you resort to empty abuse? You could learn something from them. Livingstone couldn't write a postcard home from Moscow.

February 18th, 2008 5:24pm Report this commentMike anyone who dismisses Boris Johnson is only revealing their own brainlessness. If you studied astrology and saw Boris's horoscope, you would never sneer at him again. Mercury was eclipsed by Jupiter at his moment of birth, a sign of genius. He was a baby Soloman come to judgment. As for his fringe, that is because he likes to blow it up in the air when he is perlexed - it looks so cute!
