Obama wins Wisconsin

James Forsyth 8:58am

Following Barack Obama’s 58-41 win in the Wisconsin primary, Hillary Clinton has a fortnight to save her presidential bid. If she does not hold the line on March 4th in Texas and Ohio, key figures in the party will begin calling on her to step aside.

With nine straight victories since Super Tuesday, Obama has the momentum. He has expanded his voting coalition and is winning among those earning less than $50,000 and even tying Hillary among whites without a college degree. He has two weeks to campaign across Texas and Ohio and the direction of the polls indicate that if things carry on as they are he will overtake her in these states before polling day.

At the moment, the Clinton campaign appears out of ideas for how to stop Obama. Her new stump speech, unveiled last night, draws the same contrasts with Obama that she has been doing for months: she is ready to lead from day one, she has national security experience and she can withstand a general election onslaught. To stop Obama, the Clintons need to launch a full frontal assault on him. Though, if they do this and it doesn’t work then they will find themselves pariahs in their own party.

It will be interesting to see just how nasty things get. One feels for Obama: pursued by a frightful harpie in a pantsuit and her vicious wilting Priapus of a husband, now reduced to the role of a florid and snarling junkyard attack dog. I can hardly wait.

as a european I feel sorry for not voting on Obama, the new Kennedy. I hope Washington dealers start to feel that you are going to be the next president
