Political viewing

Peter Hoskin 2:34pm

If you feel like wearing a political anorak on this sunny bank holiday Monday, then here's a video history of the Conservative Party which the Tories have updated for the launch of the new 'History' section on their website. Alastair Cooke introduces the whole project on the Blue Blog, here.

Awesome article by Jackie Ashley in the Grauniad. Gives me particular pleasure when those of a rosy disposition talk bucket loads of sense and sensibility. Hope you enjoy http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/aug/30/labour-government-leadership

I do find it quite funny how, when lauding Peel for his various accomplishments, the video fails to mention that the next figure also marshaled the rest of the party against him, forcing him to take his elite and seed the leadership of the liberal party.

Selective and rose tinted history, but very well put together.

I thought it was well put together. My main quibble - in fact it is more than a quibble - is the assertion that Mr Cameron`s No 1 priority is the NHS. I believe his No 1 priority now should be to restore national solvency and financial stability for without it nothing else will be possible.

I thought his priority should be to restore national sovereignty. Without it there's no point in pretending to be either British or a government.

I read in the DT that the Tories' main target after they are elected to govern next year is going to be EDUCATION - the NHS is going to have to wait. Or was it the other way round?

Agreed.

Priorities must be solvency and sovereignty.

Then education, and then the NHS, in fact the whole damn country needs rebuilding, but if he just deregulates and cuts taxes and red tape, then the country will repair itself.

That is the wonder of freedom.
