Tories up 13 in new ICM poll
James Forsyth 8:48pmThe Guardian has just posted the headlines figures from its new poll which shows the Tories with a 42-29 lead over Labour. The poll also finds that David Cameron and George Osborne have an eight point lead on the question of who do you most trust with the economy.

What we need is a poll that is based on millions of people. Lets call it a General Election, now if you should win that one you will be entitled to get excited.

When it comes to votes for the House of Commons, Cameron's record is of turning super-safe seats into knife-edge marginals and respectable second places into distant thirds, on one notable occasion barely ahead of the BNP. And in any case, who cares who wins the next General Election? In 1997, although there was no economic difference between Labour and the Tories, there were (at least in theory) considerable social and (without any doubt) vast constitutional differences. In 2010, there will be absolutely no difference at all. So who cares who wins?
