A new addition to the family
Fraser Nelson 11:07am
It’s said that every newborn either looks like Winston Churchill or a pound of mince. But this gorgeous, wee creature, I’m sure you’ll agree, looks like neither. Born at 5.52am this morning, after a wait of what felt like an eternity, he weighed in at 9lbs 1 ounce.
The staff at the hospital (Kingston-upon-Thames) were absolutely wonderful: we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Interestingly, the midwife said they are at their busiest here during a full moon or during a storm.
So I won’t be blogging for a while. It’s time to lavish attention on our other son and persuade him that he has been presented with a great, huge, kicking and screaming present. He might even believe me.

But I really don't believe that bete noir really exists. You know who I mean, the stupid bovine who appears like a fairy tale wicked witch at the Christening party, but who gets her uppance at the end. Nobody could be that vile and make such snide remarks on the joyful occasion of a baby's birth. I think the "Spectator" have invented her and spend their coffee breaks writing nasty things in her name. She is a good excuse for us all to vent our own spite onto the forum and prevent us doing GBHs on annoying people. I will be a lady, and wish her everything she wishes us (with brass knobs on)!

December 14th, 2009 5:46pm Report this commentWelcome to the world, Baby Nelson. Congratulations to Mrs N, the Big Brother and you.
You will indeed be missed, because your insights are amongst the best on the UK political blogging scene, not least because you seem to be one of the few who really understands the maths, and explains the implications well.
Good luck with trying to explain the benefits of having a LIttle Brother to Big Brother. But actually, I think Little Brother grasping his finger is probably going to do the job more effectively himself.
Meanwhile, he'll probably appreciate your suggestions that Little Brother will never really catch up with him and will always see him as bigger and faster and just ahead of him in every way. The other Big Brothers he knows will probably confirm that. And reading him the "My Naughty Little Sister" stories might encourage him to grow himself into that benignly Olympian stance.
I expect a good dollop of your total interest and attention might be pretty good consolation too.

Excellent to see the Nelson clan multiplying and doing its bit towards keeping our demographics healthy! Stuff the incoherent 'overpopulation' doomsters, who on the one hand practically preach sterility as the only answer, yet on the other tell us mass immigration is needed to shore up our falling population!!
And apart from all that, Nelson is a good Scottish name!!
