The Tories accuse Labour of telling “lies”
James Forsyth 11:54am
The Toryies are busy rebutting Labour’s claim that there is a £34bn black hole in their tax and spending plans. The most striking thing is how strong the language Conservative sources are using is, Labour's document was described to me as ‘a “dodgy dossier” full of lies’.
It is quite remarkable that Labour has the gall to criticise the other side for unfunded spending pledges and the headline Tory objections are fair enough. The document says the Tories would let married couples transfer their tax allowances, when they haven’t committed to that. It also claims that the Tories are pledged to abolishing the 50p rate before the end of the parliament which the Tories are not.
This is the first working day of an election year and so things were bound to heat up. But if the ‘l’ word is being used five months out from the most likely election date then one wonders what language they’ll be using come April.

The Tories shoudl certainly stuff the lies back down their throats - but no-one believes Bruin's absurd porkies anyhow. As a propagandist he's no Goebbels - more like Comical Ali. Without the laughs of course.

Brown says ' i am getting on with the job' so then run the country instead of wasting tax payers money looking at tories tax spend.

January 4th, 2010 12:17pm Report this commentIf that is what Labour has done, then it is right to call them "lies". If they, the Conservatives, in turn misrepresent Labour statements, then they should expect the same in return.
I am all in favour of robust, plain speaking when it is justified and fortified by the facts. So far there has been too much wishy washy dancing around the many issues that the electorate must confront at the next election.

January 4th, 2010 12:28pm Report this commentWe have all seen it happen before – when you are in real real trouble, you lie. Labour’s calculation is that a mud slinging contest where claims and counter claims are traded will result in turning off many voters. In the circumstances, this is a victory for Labour.
Damn the country, party before all seems to be Brown mantra.

January 4th, 2010 12:36pm Report this commentThe great thing about Brown is that he fights dirty. People despise dirty fighters, they're not to be trusted and are vicious nasty people. The Tories just need to box cleanly and the people will see a clear victor. Just think Marvin Hagler :-)

Beat Brown senseless - the guy deserves to go down big time, knock the mother out, smash his teeth to pieces, bruise him so badly he won't be able to have sex for six months, get that killer mindset. This is war!!

January 4th, 2010 1:09pm Report this commentBehavioural learning. When children (q.v. Labour government) learn they can lie and get away with it so often it becomes habitual. Everytime I see or hear a Labour cabinet minister on TV or radio they are telling lies. Unfortunately they are not challenged enough on it and this has just encouraged them to tell bigger and more outrageous lies. Most of the public can see it for what it is - the MSM unfortunately seem to have a blind side - especially when it comes to Labour.
As a government facing perhaps the worst recession in British history and before the date of the GE has been announced, the amount of effort they are putting into publically trying to discredit the opposition is outrageous and they are doing this pure party political campaigning at the taxpayers expense. They should concentrate on putting their own house in order before pointing the finger at a party not even in power. As always I'm surprised they are allowed to get away with it just as much as they do.

January 4th, 2010 1:18pm Report this commentDarling seems to have got his Parties mixed up. Certainly all of the deceit, cuts, taxes and 'saying what whoever he is speaking to wants to hear' has been New Labour policy from day 1. The only exception being Brown as Chancellor when generally he said nothing on any subject because a) he didn't understand what was going on and b)them wot don't do nuffin, don't do nuffin wrong. Since May 1997 10 Downing Street has been the real Big Brother house, containing only dimwits, who talk nonsense and think they are hugely important. Except the cameras have been on us.

January 4th, 2010 1:29pm Report this commentIf; as is being suggested, Gordon Brown calls the next General Election for Thursday 6th May, then he has only 122days left as Prime Minister.
If on the other hand; he clings on to the bitter end, until Thursday 3rd June, he has just 150days.
In my opinion this marks today; as being an auspicious day, a day to celebrate the beginning of the end for these purveyors of lies.

January 4th, 2010 3:58pm Report this commentGordon, oh Gordon you’ve taken us for fools.
You lied about Prudence and your 'Golden Rules'.
You plundered our pensions and decimated our savings,
We're fed up of listening to your 'global' ravings.
Blair claimed you're a genius; he lied to us too.
The 'British' economy is in deep doggy-doo.
'No booms, no busts !' you used to shout out.
That was all hubris, of that there's no doubt.
You bang on and on about your Presbyterian daddy,
Born a son of the manse and raised in Kircaldy.
Now how would he regard you, with disgust or with pride ?
Having watched you for years as you stood there and lied ?
You’ve ruined this country, we’ve become a basket case.
Moody’s and the others plan to remove our triple A’s
Yet you’re still in denial, saying we’re ‘uniquely placed’.
Have a long look in the mirror, your reflection is two-faced !
I watched you yesterday on the Andrew Marr prog,
The 'underdog's' face was unusually hang-dog
You said you’d prepared a ‘Decade of Shared Prosperity’.
I think you’re deluded-isn’t it more Marxist Austerity ?
You bored me to tears with your grandiloquent prolixity,
A dull raft of statistics in a broadcast of mendacity.
Then you told us that yours is the Party of aspiration!
You’re clutching at straws, man; that’s total desperation !
For once in your life, think about this once-great Nation,
Name a date we can all march to the local Polling station !

January 4th, 2010 5:34pm Report this commentNo one can reasonably expect the Tories to commit chapter and verse down to the last penny on what they intend to do to fix Britains economy when no one knows the extent of the countries debt. This last year has seen Brown & Darling admitting higher and higher debt levels everytime their last forecast was blown out of the water by the worlds economists. Nothing they say now has any credence and until the election is over we won't know the true state of Britain whoever gets into power. The only real question the electorate should be asking itself is do they want to give these lying scum bags another 4 years to kill off Britain completely or do they want to let the Tories try and fix Browns vindictive mistakes. The electorate would do well to look at the track record of both parties over the past 100 years and if they did, they'd find that the last 4 times the Tories were in power they cleaned up the financial mess that Labour had left the last 4 times they were kicked out of power.
