David Miliband barely offers Brown support
James Forsyth 7:19pmOn a day where statements of support for the Prime Minister from key Cabinet colleagues have been notable for how lukewarm they ware, David Miliband’s takes the biscuit:
"I am working closely with PM on foreign policy issues & support the re-election campaign for a Labour Govt that he is leading.”It is hard to see how this could be a weaker statement of support. There is no word of praise for Brown, no claim that he is best man for the job, just a declaration that he backs Labour’s re-election. If I was one of Brown’s henchmen, I would feel far from reassured by it.

January 6th, 2010 7:41pm Report this commentI expect that this ringing endorsement originally included the words 'for the time being' after the word 'leading' and that Milipede has spent all afternoon agonising over whether anyone would notice or even care if he removed them.

I am working closely with PM is different to I am working closely with THE PM. I am working closely with Peter M and the election campaign he is leading...

David Miliband isn't loyal, so his gesture of support isn't coming from the heart.
He wants to be a leader but isn't leader material, he is a banana carrier, nothing more.
It is a difficult time for him, keeping a straight face when he hopes the plotters will cripple Brown.
As working class raised in the Glasgow ghetto, I find myself looking at this as a semi interested spectator.
Of course, I want the stake driven in but my problem is, how to get the rest.
Labour is so full of careerists that the concept of loyalty doesn't hang well with them.
Still David Cameron and his Cabinet of rich, by the rich for the rich will enjoy this.
It's the fall of Rome.
Yours sincerely
