Post-Rawnsley YouGov poll has Tory lead at six
James Forsyth 9:03amLast night I posted on a YouGov poll which had the Tories above forty and ahead by 12. It now turn out that those numbers were wrong and that the poll actually showed something very different—apologies for that. The real figures are Tories 39, Labour 33. Considering that this poll was conducted after the Rawnsley revelations had come out, it is going to add to the sense of nervousness on the Tory side.

February 23rd, 2010 9:40am Report this commentIt seems Cam the Sham was right. Too many twitters makes a .... of many people.
Look on the brightside it wasn't just you but ConHome and even funnier Eric Pickles boasting about the 12% lead.
Maybe desperation is setting in for the Tories, so they have started making up their own figures. Then again, they will always have Angus Ried to pu them miles ahead....always!

February 23rd, 2010 9:56am Report this commentPolls have become a bit boring. There are too many of them and sometimes their motives are suspect. Their outcomes often seem dependent on who commissioned them and the political affiliations of the people asking the questions. During the past 13 years there are very few areas of public life that have not become tainted by corruption and there's no reason to suppose that pollsters have escaped with unblemished records.

It is obvious that the Conservatives are failing to appeal to the electorate and that a radical rethink is urgently required.

February 23rd, 2010 10:29am Report this commentWe live in a world where that Smirking Chancer, ole Devil Eyes himself - Blair won 60+ seats at the last Election with around a third of the popular vote.
NuLab perfidy over postal voting, boundary changes, spin, the supreme bias by the Brown Broadcasting Circus - once known as Aunty Beeb - and other dodgy, corrupt practices will probably mean a landslide for Gordon on less than a quarter of the votes.

February 23rd, 2010 10:38am Report this commentThere you go then. Not very difficult to get figures wrong then is it?
The Polls are dependant on what the question was and how it was phrased, so means very little right now. We do know that the companies that produce the polls are biased and therefore the results mean even less.
Its a long time to the election and althought things do not look good for Cameron things are beginning to look even less good for Brown. The Liebore spin machine is not working too well right now and maybe people will see what Liebore are about. Who knows?

February 23rd, 2010 10:38am Report this commentSo why do you publish something based on rumour??
Yet again a Spectator journalist shows himself to be a twit - there are an increasing number of you.
In analysing the polls we can be sure of one thing - you will never conclude that one reason for any tory decline is the predisposition of Tory supporting journalists to mount nit-picking attacks the tories in the run up to an election.
In fact 39 is not a bad figure for the Tories post expenses scandal, following which their support, and labours too, slumped. This poll puts labour on 33 at the expense of LibDems.
YouGov seem to be showing a much lower figure for Libdems than other polls, say ICM. Some say this is wrong and the LDs will certainly poll 20. If so then this will pull down labour - so 39 is not a bad figure. And we should remember we are in effect in the middle of a pre election 'boom', with billions being spent that the govt do not have in order to prop up its vote.
But hey - I am only some bloke on a couch, far be it from me to do your job for you and bring some reasoned argument in lieu of fatuous hysteria.

February 23rd, 2010 11:19am Report this commentAnd look a the Suns website again. They are hiding the results. They have only put one set of results up, during the past week of daily polls, the one where the Tories lead jumped 3%. All the other ones have, like "Cast Iroon Guarantees" been wiped from The Suns History.
Seems they have the same grasp of opinion polls as article writers who believe everything told to them by Tory twitterers.
Can't wait for ConHome/The Spectator/Eric Pickles next reporting of the opinion polls. "Tories 120% ahead in Angus Reid System Poll."
