Cycling ahead

Peter Hoskin 6:15pm

This post over at Three Line Whip makes a good point. That fun Mirror story about Cameron “flouting the laws” as he cycled to Parliament doesn't seem to have done the Tory leader any harm. As far as I can tell, there's been no widespread anger. No anti-“toff” sentiment. Nothing. Brownites must be terribly disappointed.

The Mirror has – I'm sure unwittingly – played a part in the response. They've followed their scoop with stories which play-up the comic aspects of it all. But it's no less encouraging for Team Cameron that the “he's too posh for the rest of us” charge is failing to stick.

P.S. If you're stuck for anything to do this weekend, there's always Dangerous Dave's Run the Red Light Cycling Game.

Dave joins "Reclaim the Streets" and forms Bullingdon Division. All part of the The Shaven Headed One's masterplan to show the Tories really have changed - all very PC, all very modern metropolitan man.

I think that Cameron chose the right reaction from the beginning to defuse the issue with that "It is good to know the Mirror are watching over me. It will keep me on my toes" comment.

It would have been very temtping to make some sniffy, self-important remark about hacks not reporting serious news or something like that.

This story has ran its course sometime back now. The Mirror needs to accept that no-one is interested and move on.

I've heard of "Dog bites man" stories before, but this beats the lot of them.

What next?

MP passes wind?

Perhaps if the Mirror had followed their beloved Gordon Brown the other day the dithering clown wouldn't have got himself lost.

Oh shock, - horror, - and a fainting fit by all the ‘elf ‘n sayf-tee brigade. The goody-goody people of the left never of course do such things, but are scrupulous in their observance of speed limits, one-way systems, - speed humps – and all the other Bliarist regulatory stuff . . . I don’t think!
