More misery for Clegg
Peter Hoskin 6:32pm
Nick Clegg's in line for more misery over Europe. Today, Lord McNally announced that Lib Dem peers would go against Clegg's orders by not abstaining from the upcoming referendum vote. Instead, they're set to vote against a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.
Many of the pro-referendum brigade had pinned their dwindling hopes on the Lords. But McNally's revelation makes it extremely unlikely that the UK will get the say it was promised. In a way, then, Clegg will get the outcome he wanted. Although his grip on the Lib Dems has been shattered in the process.

I would have bet on the Libdem Lords and Ladies pulling a stunt like this, the outcome of the HoL referendum vote was in doubt and could have produced the wrong result for the government and the Libdems.
Just as cynical and manipulative as the behaviour we saw from both the government and Libdem party in the HoC.
It's this type of behaviour which makes the most enthusiastic and interested of ordinary voters turn off politics altogether.
Manifesto promises mean sod all now, time was, you only reneged on them because you were forced to. Now it has become a political art form to shaft the ordinary voter!

One of the problems with Cameron is that he wants to BE Prime Minister rather than just being motivated to get there to DO things.
That's clear from the way he positioned himself as not too threatening to Blair's legacy.
Unfortunately, and inevitably , that's a feature of all our current politicians.
But I've been looking at the Libertarian Party (lpuk.org)website,although I'm not a classic libertarian.
It really is very good.
They want to give away/take away government/state powers and then not DO much.
They do not seem motivated by the typical politicians' desire to tell the populace what to do.
But they're not yet, if ever, a major party.
Since this post was about Clegg let's go back to him.
He stood as Leader then threw out a major policy; clearly he wants to BE leader rather than
DO Libdem policies.
I really have very little respect for any of the major party leaders.
But I will echo the call; Go Boris, a serious man behind the humour, sound libertarian instincts and an understanding that life is more than politics.
