In that case, Private Eye printed a card for people to cut out and carry in order to protect themselves against any such further affliction. What might local authorities and communities do to protect themselves in this case?
And yes, the tax burden is higher than it was in 1997. But it would be higher still under Cameron and Osborne, who are not only committed to matching the present Government penny for penny, but have also promised substantial increases in military spending.
Overall, that adds up to higher spending. In other words, higher tax from the start, or higher borrowing leading to higher tax in order to service the debt, or both.
Compared to that, Brown and Darling are fiscal conservatives.

April 3rd, 2008 9:56pm Report this commentDon't make me laugh Mr Lindsay. Firstly its going to be very difficult to rein in the spending released by Labour som its got to make sense for Tories to admit they cannot make quick cuts.
And its what you spend the mponey on thats important as well, AND getting value for it.
Lets not forget that when she first came into office spending went UP under Thatcher.
