How the Tories are decontaminating their associations with Big Business

Peter Hoskin 4:49pm

Over the past couple of years, Big Business (as in, "being in hock with...") has been deployed almost as an insult against the Tories.  But they've now used their campaign on national insurance to turn their business associations into an advantage.  Exhibit A: the above picture (via PoliticsHome) of Cameron's visit to the Warbutons HQ in Bolton, where the company owner has come out in support of Tory proposals.  It sends the message that Big Business doesn't just mean the financial services, and a lot of people, in a lot of regions, rely heavily upon it for their livelihoods.  And too right, too.  Expect plenty more like this from the Tories over the next few weeks.

As in Prescott's "Mr Lawson's friends in the City", until mouth-almighty himself decided that diary secretaries weren't the only things worth getting into bed with.

Not just livelihoods, but the bread on our tables and the shirts on our backs (if Labour haven't taken them). We're all consumers, even public sector workers.

I am an 80year old IT novice and I just love reading all your articles and Blogs. I am a great Dave Fan and would love to see him and his super team in No 10. Un fortunatly I am an ex pat (family necessity) and do not have a vote. I would like to say however How on earth do the people think Public services are run and survive without being oaid for by the private sector. Please you Blues go for it!

I was traumatised when I tuned in to this.
I LOVE Warburton's bread and I thought Brown the jinx was there.
I would have stopped buying their bread immediately if they were backing Brown!
Think I'm joking?
I have NEVER bought a Snickers since they
changed the name from Marathon!
Stubborn as a bloody mule!(Oooo la la I may be a french)(Gribit)(Who said that)
Topics are a lot nicer anyway.

"Big Business doesn't just mean the financial services." The very fact that needs saying at all, let alone emphasising, shows how far the Tories have moved from their grass roots.
Baldwin instinctively knew what Dave still has to learn.

It's smooth, doughy, soggy, expensive, and wrapped in plastic, and sounds just like Dave who has managed singlehandedly to contaminate the brand for those members of the public who hate Tories.
Keep an eye on the sales figures when/if those customers choose supermarket own brand instead.
