John Redwood "not sure" whether ministers will vote in 1922 Committee
Peter Hoskin 3:08pm
John Redwood is interviewed by Andrew Neil on Straight Talk this weekend, and there's a rather eyecatching exchange where the Tory MP claims that he's "not sure" whether ministers will be
able to vote in the 1922 Committee, after all:
At the very least, Redwood's uncertainty suggests that things aren't set in stone. So why would that be? The possibility of a compromise arrangement, or something else?John Redwood: ...as I understand the ballot, the ballot was about whether Ministers should come regularly to the 22 or not, and so I have no problem with that, and if that is the agreement, then fine.Andrew Neil: So are you not clear yet whether Ministers can come along as full members of the 22 Committee?
JR: Well, I’m not sure whether they vote in 1922 elections, which is the point you were asserting, and we’ll have to see whether that’s true or not. But my view is that it’s actually rather a good idea of David Cameron’s that Ministers and backbenchers should work together in open sessions of the 1922.

May 21st, 2010 4:26pm Report this commentSince the vote to to open up the committee was conducted by the party whips, not by the 1922 executive, I think there is the possibility that the executive could treat the vote as merely advisory. As others have pointed out, the membership of the 1922 has not voted to allow ministers to take part in the election, as non-members were allowed to cast ballots.

It does not make sense.

Honestly, I like John Redwood and am sad that he is not in the treasury team. However I do hope he gets the chair of the accounts select committee.
This does show that we must never take what the fourth estate tell us!!
Viva the coalition!

What Pete is highlighting is Redwood's belief that the Brady Boys may well have some wriggle room to neuter Dave's attempt to neuter them. I certainly hope they do and that take their revenge on him in the bloodiest and most humiliating way possible.
Be interesting to see the terms of the motion that was voted on the other night if you can get hold of that Pete.

Which economy ? the little island off Europe or the imploding global economy ? There is little that Osborne can do to stop Spain and Italy taking RBS and Lloyds with them.
German banks have at least 522,000,000,000 Euros in PIIGS Debt on their books....I do not think British banks can repay the £300,000,000,000 they are supposed to repay the taxpayer next year...
There is nothing they can do because the economy will collapse if they cut public spending seriously since that is all that is keeping the Socialist Republic afloat

It seems at present just to be an extension of a Gentleman's Club the sort of thing and thinking which the Electorate voted against! IMHO The days of smoke filled rooms and pensioners scheming in the Carlton Club have no place in the post expenses world of poltics and the Tory party Even its title of 1922 suggests it comes fom a very bygone era! Good on yer Dave glad you seem to have the guts to take on the old farts with the same
vigour as Ms Merkel!
