Will Zardari's meeting with Cameron go like this?
Peter Hoskin 6:48pmAfter his stark warning earlier, it's worth remembering that President Zardari can be quite cheerful in person. I'm grateful to George Eaton for digging out this classic footage of the Pakistani leader's meeting with Sarah Palin in 2008:

August 3rd, 2010 8:34pm Report this commentAnd the strange thing is everybody still wants to meet Sarah Palin - even at the exclusive Beltway Gridiron dinner earlier this year they all flocked around Palin...it's called charisma...

Baron - Agreed. Jacqui and Harriet and what's that one who's married to Ed Balls ... and the anger, the anger ... that Sarah Palin can fly a small plane, by herself, across the Alaskan tundra and not be frightened. That she can fish for sharks. That she can confront a bear.
All those limp little men.

August 4th, 2010 9:21am Report this commentNo doubt Zadari will be visiting his alma mater The London School of Economics and Business. Should be quite a boost to its low profile to have such a rich alumnus visit. Is he richer than Karzai or simply less corrupt ?

August 4th, 2010 9:23am Report this commentOh, for goodness sake. Stick her in a Burkha - she'll still be able to fly planes and the bear will be frightened off, but she will STILL be terrifyingly stupid.

you may or may not be right, but imagine this: On the one side, there’s the terrifyingly stupid woman followed by tens of millions, admired by them, worshipped even, and who knows, perhaps voted by them in to run the show. And whom do we have on the other side? An angry little genius, most likely a desirable social worker, a descendant of one of the drug invested couples who thought that ‘all we need is love’ way back last century, hopping mad with jealousy who goes under the name Blofeld’s Cat. It does make you curse life, doesn’t it? So bloody unfair to the anointed great minds, ha?

The best thing Zadari can do for his country at the moment is put on his pads and come out to bat at no.3 at Edgbaston.

August 4th, 2010 1:49pm Report this commentSo we know his eyesight is ok. She really benefited from the makeover and all that money spent on her wardrobe. The fact that she can fish, shoot and fly a plane does nto qualify her to be president, just means she has lived in the country and is a capable girl. Charisma, great stuff, Bliar had some of it and look what he did for the UK.

August 4th, 2010 2:08pm Report this commentBaron: what a clever man you must be to draw such profound conclusions about my heritage and profession from a 2 sentence posting.
Not clever enough to get any of it right, of course. But then, (like me,) you were only trying to be erudite and witty to score a cheap point.

yours wasn’t personal, well personal in a sense it didn’t try to score a cheap point at my expense. This makes me feel rather bad, and small. If I were to apologize, could we forget the whole thing? Peace?

August 4th, 2010 6:37pm Report this comment2trueblue and other naysayers, what is always elided over is the gigantic fact that she was elected Governor of Alaska. For the Brits, that means, the chief executive of the state. Governors are not sort of deputy presidents, or presidents' underlings. They are the chief executive. She's not some little wannabee who came from nowhere.
During her time as Governor, she negotiated a far reaching, and very far sighted, oil pipe deal with the Canadian province of Alberta, which is also one of the very oil rich segments of N America, like Texas and Alaska and to some extent Oklahoma. I haven't read the details of the deal, but oil commentators in oil publications found it intriguing, clever and far-sighted.
We know the left is afraid of good-looking women with chic hairstyles, who don't have to hide wobbly, lardy hips with yards of draperies and neck interest (Jaqui Smith, Harriet Harman and the sisters), but what is it about Sarah Palin that frightens men on the right?
As they say in Texas, she's a pistol.
