Brown’s plan for the future
David Blackburn 5:08pm
Mr Blair’s former breathless lover will form the fully staffed Gordon and Sarah Brown Foundation, paid for by lucrative speaking engagements,
which the Spectator revealed some weeks ago. He has accepted three
pro-bono appointments - joining Queen Rania of Jordan’s Global Campaign for Education, working on a new programme to bring the internet to Africa and joining the board of Tim Berners Lee's
World Wide Web Foundation. He will also continue to write on the plight of the world’s poor.
Presumably, he won’t now be seeking a spot at the Shadow Cabinet table. Like Blair, Brown’s ambitions are global. I can’t criticise Brown for any of this – they are all worthy causes close to Brown’s heart. But it would be better for all concerned, especially the voters of Kirkcaldy, if he resigned his seat.

September 2nd, 2010 5:19pm Report this commentThe voters of Kirkcaldy surely couldn't give a monkey's. Being a Scottish MP is largely an honorary position - influencing legislation governing England but not - very largely - the affairs of Scotland.
The voters or Kirkcaldy aren't even paying for their MP, as even their taxes are subsidized by the English taxpayers.

September 2nd, 2010 5:56pm Report this commentDear All
What do these three appointments signify?
I would suggest that Gordon Brown isn’t committed to being an MP and serving the voters.
He is holding this position as a means to secure employment elsewhere.
Resigning for him isn’t an option, there needs to be a law introduced that allows the people to recall MPs.
Yours sincerely

September 2nd, 2010 6:03pm Report this commentInteresting choices. Starving millions cowed under various dictatorships and Brown comes offering the world wide web.
Fortunately for Brown Queen Rania and Mr Lee have not looked too closely at Brown's record of ruining the English education system - as mentioned he has no authority in his on constituency.

My god I wish I did Politics at Uni, failure like that in my work place and my backside wouldn't even touch the floor as I got thrown out.
Internet in Africa?! I'm sure they've got bigger concerns than Facebook and iTunes.
The monkies truly run the asylum.

When that org. gets sorted out I might be more interested in 'Aid'.
Until then, I and many others are highly suspicious of the whole 'give to the poor' industry.
CMD certainly should be.

September 2nd, 2010 9:31pm Report this commentSo much so for all his high minded sounding remarks during the campaign trail that if he lost he'd be looking to do some genuine public SERVICE work, such as working for a charity or even, forsooth, going into teaching ( as a former schoolmaster I can assure he'd last approximately two minutes in today's rabble ridden classrooms that he and his leftist clique helped create). When he mentioned charities I'm sure most folk took that to mean joining an existing needy cause, and not the usual has-been politician jumped up grandiose scheme to cloak getting rich. In this he, Blair and too many other MPs are all alike- prestige, power and money grabbing. And they wonder why we're cynical! There are far more immediate and worthy causes than these and not a penny of my money shall be going to bolster Broon's ego. As a full time MP he should be setting an example to the numerous new intakes at Westminster of proper and exclusive devotion to his constituency. Instead, hypocrisy and hype as ever...
