Women and politics poll

Peter Hoskin 3:04pm

I'd recommend you take a look at Grazia magazine's new poll - 'Women and politics survey 2008'.  As you'd expect - with a title like that - all the respondents are women, and they come out broadly in favour of Cameron & Co.  For instance, 33 percent would vote Tory if there was a general election tomorrow, compared to only 14 percent for Labour.  And 26 percent think David Cameron will keep his promises, compared to 16 percent for Brown.  And that's before we get to which politician would 'deliver the best performance in bed'...

There is one grain of comfort, though, for Brown.  He beats Cameron on the question of "Which party leader would you call in a crisis?" (by 49 percent to 42 percent).  I suspect the wording may have something to do with that - how many respondents would have thought, "Brown, obviously, because he's Prime Minister and can get more done"?  Or is it a fair reflection of Brown's strengths and Cameron's weaknesses?  Thoughts please, CoffeeHousers...

Fantastic reading, somewhat marred by the appalling editing.

There should have been a 'None of the above' option for more of the questions, though. Where it is offered, it is generally the most popular response.

I particularly welcome the increased political engagement of the 5% who think 50+ sexual partners is acceptable for a politician. Are these ladies aware that, like taxes, individuals can make voluntary contributions?

And that like taxes they can be so small as to be barely noticeable? (I could go on in this vein forever)

All quite amusing, apart from the worrying "who would you call in a crisis?" response.

An interesting survey. We have to conclude that 64% believe that Brown would break his promises and that 74% believe that Cameron would break his. Not a very high opinion of either of them eh?

However, suppose a similar survey were to be made about the leaders of all the other parties - especially UKIP and the BNP.

Which of the leaders of those parties would people have rated as the most likely to do what he says he will do?

I think that the answers could be very interesting indeed. Perhaps somebody will be brave enough to conduct a survey?

I see I mis-typed the percentage that believes Brown would break his promises. It should read 84%.
