How low can they go?

James Forsyth 1:21pm

Jonathan Freedland’s piece in The Guardian suggesting that it might be best for Labour to lose the next election is well worth reading. But this section particularly jumped out at me:

One senior cabinet minister's first reaction to the 24% share in the May 1 polls was to say, "It can get worse." He conjures the figure 16% as a possible rock-bottom for Labour's standing.
One gets the feeling that the panic has truly kicked in with some. Brown’s fate hinges on whether they are resigned to their fate or if they see a way to save themselves and their party.

When JF says another 18 years of Tory government would be worse than bad for the country, one assumes that he thinks that the last 11 have been good. As my 9 year old would bellow: "HELLO?"

The media and the opposition must hammer the government hard over the 1 million plus poor who are still not going to have their money returned after having their pockets picked by Brown to fund his middle income tax cuts.

If the situation were reversed and the Conservatives were in power having raided the earnings of 1 million people on less than £8k the media and what now passes for a shallow imitation of a Labour party would be slavering for blood.

I wonder what the founders of the Labour movement would be thinking if they could see what is being done today in their name?
