Write Cameron's version of this ad

James Forsyth 3:27pm

John McCain’s latest ad is a simple message to voters about what a McCain presidency would achieve in its first term. Here’s the script:

The year, 2013.

The Middle East stabilized.

Nuclear terror threat reduced.

Border security strengthened.

Energy independence advanced.

Wasteful spending reformed.

Health care choice delivered.

Economic confidence restored.

The year, 2013. The President, John McCain.

This set me thinking, what would the Tories’ version of this ad say? What I’ve come up with so far is.
Our schools transformed

A welfare system that rewards work

A tax system that supports the family

This is the dumbing down of politics. It is all very well spouting these aspirations - like an updated version of the Blair pledge card - but the question is how are you going to achieve them? There is no detail at all on any of these from Cameron & co

England now living in federated harmony with the other component territories of the former United Kingdom, having regained its own parliament, the new arrangements having worked so well that independence was no longer a burning issue anywhere. The small Federal Administration has settled well into its new complex near Manchester, with convenient air, road and hi-speed rail links to all parts of the FK and RoI.

All national parliaments agreed that political membership of the EU was in fact not in the interests of continuing sovereign nationhood for any of them. Republic of Ireland reached a similar conclusion after experiencing severe pressure from mainland Europe following successive referendum rejections of the Lisbon Treatystution and subsequent such attempts to create a United States of Europe. Application has been made to join EFTA. Ironically, relationships with the EU are now much more cordial and co-operative, now that liaison on measures such as detection of international crime have been relieved of fears of eroded sovereignty.

Whilst remaining independent and militarily a neutral State, RoI becomes an associate partner of FK, now that the latter has become an association of equals, and aligns the Punt with the Pound. There are no longer such stark distinctions between northern and southern Ireland and tensions are beginning to ease to the extent that the artificial power-sharing arrangements in the northern parliament are beginning to erode, being supplanted by a mixture of FK and RoI political parties standing in various elections, both sides of the notional border.

External border controls have been strengthened and immigration is based on a points system, according to various criteria. In consequence travel & trade between FK/RoI and the USA is much easier and has revitalised the longstanding cross-Atlantic links. The movement for establishing a global Anglosphere is gathering momentum accordingly.

Compulsory National Citizenship Service has been introduced, with civil and military variants at home and abroad. The latter is not necessarily combatant as RoI is a mutual partner in the scheme and thus there is an option for UN peacekeeping duties.

… and the ruling Conservative & Federalist Party folk in England and their counterparts in the other home nations also done summink about education , health, crime, political correctness ‘n other fings to free the spirit and enthusiasm of a populace that never had it so good before.

State has been rolled back - not without some pain as thousands of quangos, government agencies and national regional and local council administration levels are wound up leaving 3m temporarily unemployed. However this has been eased by the dramatic surge in the economy at savage tax cuts boost the economy and encourage inward investment. Schools revitalised as per Gove proposals and all targets about "higher education" are scrapped. People encouraged to take appropriate training for their skills and aspirations. All degrees in "Robbie Williams or "The impact of David Beckham's tatoos on contemporary thought" abolished. Anyone unable to use the apostrophe correctly unable to get more than a manual job. National service resumed. All prison sentences are now what it says on the tin - no parole.100 mph speed limit on motorways when traffic and conditions allow. Conservaties select candidates who have had previous real jobs - an end to the culture of career politicians. BBC TV cut back to News, Sport and BBC 1&2. New parliament created in Milton Keynes hailed as biggest boost to the economy for 100 years and responsible for reducing housing prices and traffic in London by 20% to wide benefit. Westminster now used solely for ceremonial occasions. The rail network has been transformed with vast investment in TGV style route improvements brought in with new quick planning laws. UK no longer part of the EU as presently constituated but a Swiss-style partner with benefits to all. The total freeze on immigration has been seen to be a good short term measure and a new much harder points system is now to be introduced. All planning in the South East apart from around the new Thames Estuary International Airport has been abandoned to allow a breathing space. Abandonment of the Human Rights Act has allowed religious fanatics of all faiths to be controlled. Positive action to encourage integration of the various faiths in hot spot areas via the arts and sport has resulted in greater understanding. Ben Anslie has lead Team GB to victory in the America's Cup!
