We need your vote
6:13pm
It's that time of the year again. The nights are drawing in and the Spectator is
choosing its parliamentarian of the year. As in previous years, we’re asking you to vote for a readers’ representative. So, which politician has excelled in the noble art of politics in
the last twelve months? Think carefully, there must be someone who has dazzled with a moment's oratory, campaigned fearlessly on a matter of principle or merely just represented their local
interest with absolute fidelity. To make your nomination, click here and justify your choice in no more than 200 words.
We’ll publish a selection of entries in the magazine in the coming weeks, and the writer of the best contribution will win two tickets to the awards ceremony at Claridge’s on Wednesday 16th November. The closing date for entries is Monday 31st October. Good luck!

Seriously, how can you think of awards to such a useless bunch? Take a year off.

October 6th, 2011 9:59pm Report this commentMark Pritchard for refusing to be bullied by the whips into withdrawing his debate about banning live circus animals and for standing up in parliament and saying that he would not be blackmailed by offers of government posts into not representing his people and not speaking out on important matters and for stating proudly that he came from a poor background which gave him a backbone.

October 7th, 2011 1:04am Report this commentI don't see anyone in Westminster worthy of any kind of recognition at all. But in Brussels, I would say first, Nigel Farage and second Daniel Hannan, heroes both. But Nigel gets more really cruel digs in. In the last clip I watched, the Euro politician sitting in the next chair, as Nigel spoke, was trying not to laugh and at one point, covered him mouth and put his head down trying to disguise it, but his shoulders were shaking with laughter.

October 7th, 2011 2:47pm Report this commentThat Conservative doctor from the West Country, I think it may be Totnes, who told us that most of her parliamentary colleagues are pissed. I'm sure this country is regressing to the early 18th century.

October 7th, 2011 3:36pm Report this commentIn the above you say that the awards ceremony is at "Clariges on 16th November" but via the
'click' here link - under further details it says "held at Chelsea Royal Hospital Gardens, London on 17th November 2010"
And anyway the closing date was also 2010.
Shome mishtake shurley!
As far as the my winner is concerned it has to be: Sir George Young for his unfailing courtesy, his impeccable English and for not thowing the mace at Hilary Benn during business questions!
