Now will we learn the truth about Saif's British ties?

Fraser Nelson 11:00am

Now that Saif Gaddafi has been captured, the race will be on to interview him from a prison cell and ask what his business was with the various figures of the British establishment with whom he was so close. CoffeeHousers will remember the 2009 party at the Rothschilds' manor in Corfu: Saif, Mandy and Nat Rothschild. A little later, Charles Moore revealed in The Spectator that the trio were later reunited in a shooting party at Lord Rothschild's Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire. I spoke to Lord Mandelson a few weeks after the piece appeared, and thought CoffeeHousers may be interested in the transcript.

The noble lord was outraged at Charles' piece – because it suggested he was also hanging out with Cherie Blair that night. 'I never clapped eyes on Cherie Blair, she was nowhere to be seen unless she came after,' he protested. The idea of being seen with her is 'pretty unattractive'. By contrast, he wasn't in the least bit worried about hanging out with Saif. 'There was a dinner with 20 people and Saif Gaddafi arrived at the pudding course and didn't sit beside me, but I did collar him afterwards because I wanted to ask him about something to do with a concern.' What concern might that have been? He didn't say...

Peter Mandelson: I'm trying not to be disingenuous or hysterical, I mean I did go to dinner with Jacob and Serena [Rothschild] and they did invite other people and Mr Gaddafi did appear at the pudding and I did sit him down and talk to him about something.

Fraser Nelson: So how do you regard him?

PM: I don't regard him as an alright chap or a bad chap, I mean how can you judge?

FN: I thought you knew him a little?

PM: [sarcastically] Oh yes, I know him really well. I mean how do you know what he's like? I don't know, I've met the chap three times, once in a formal meeting, once briefly in Corfu – because again I arrived at 11 o'clock at night and he left at half past eight the next morning – and then briefly, the other night, two weeks ago

And that was it. Will more be learned about Saif Gaddafi's British connections? I suspect there are a good many people who hope not.

As George Osborne (almost) said: "They're all in it together".

Why would Gaddafi spill the beans on the Labour government. he will more than likely be executed so minor details of talks with some of the odious trash like Mandelson will not be high on his concerns. also if by some miracle he survives the shariah court he will be thinking that these people might someday be able to help him, you cant blackmail people without secrets.
So Mister Nelson is this another case of reporters in this country thinking everyone in the world cares about their meaningless witterings or do you really think that anyone in Libya gives a rats arse about a dinner party that Gaddafi attended compared to the murder, torture and the general mayhem this man and his family inflicted on this country.
you really should get out into the real world one day.

I love the way these monsters always tell us that they will "fight to the death", usually while they have a private jet on the tarmac with the engines running. Saddam was found in a hole in the ground, Saif's dad was found in a sewer pipe and Saif himself was last seen cowering in fear with his fingers blown off.

I see that today's news carries a similar claim that President Assad of Syria will also "fight to the death"

If "fight to the death" in Arabic means "bottle and run" it does bode rather well for a determined push against Iran, does it not?

Anyway Fraser, your piece kind of implies that everyone Mandy meets should undergo a CRB/Disclosure check before touching the hem of the Noble Lord's garment.

Mandelson! The man brought back by Brown to be the second most powerful man in Britain after himself! At (as Lady Bracknell might say) 'a shooting party'?!!
Shocking I tell you quite shocking.

All told the Rothchilds keep pretty poor company. Remind me to cut them next time we cross paths.

There seem to be a lot of journos hoping that Saif is going to spill the beans on Blair, Mandy, young George and others. They seem also to blithely assume that Saif isn't a liar.

I doubt his captors will ask anything of the sort. I imagine it will be a quick 'you're guilty aren't you' then off with his head.

Mind you, the way CH is updating today he will be dead and buried before this comment is posted! Umm, if that is the case then I told you so (grin)

PM: [sarcastically] Oh yeh…Like I’m going to tell you…I must admit though, Saif looked good in his hunting attire, even if his aim was somewhat wonky…sadly Cherie wasn’t present…:0

Have to agree with Mandelson; I, too, would be jolly peeved if anyone suggested I'd socialised with Cherie Blair.

It would be delightful to witness Labour's political and academic spivs being condemned by their Libyan paymaster.

Perhaps it could be the starter for the Chilcot main course.

I take it everyone is expecting Saif Gaddafi to 'survive' until his trial?

Gaddafi and his son(s) should have been treated as POWs, not subjected to barbaric or Middle Ages practices. There are international rules about armed conflicts and wars. Summary judgement, executions, sadistic practices etc. are themselves war crimes. And these Libyans are typical of the kind of contemptible tribal creatures who are incapable of civilized behaviour.

If we assume that some of the questionable interfaces between Blair/Mandelson and Saif took place in Libya, then any 'crime' would also have occurred in Libya.
If it is accepted that the new government of Libya is capable of giving Saif a fair trial, then surely it follows that Blair/Mandelson etc should also be 'fairly tried' in Libya (where the chief witness is available) and thus be subject to the laws and punishment range of Libya.
Wonderful image.....lamp-posts, piano-wire, Blair and Mandelson......bliss.

Poor old Blair at least he had some conviction. You go to war, and you are dammed you look for reproachment and you are dammed! Both Blair and Bush are on trial these weekend in Malaysia, for war UN. crimes!!! Good job everybody has forgotten the Malaysian soldiers sent to aid Saddam and fight the UN. coalition in 1991.

Who will try whom and for what? Given that the publicly recorded assassination of Gadaffi Snr. was clearly a 'war crime', as delineated by the Geneva Conventions — and that the United Nations, the Arab League, NATO, the POTUS, the POF and the UK PM all incited, and were co-conspirators to, the torture and brutal assassination of Gadaffi when he was disarmed and helpless in the face of a baying mob — I repeat my question: who will try whom for what and where, and why?

And while we're at it, can somebody explain why the army of AMEY plc, apparently with more trench diggers and vehicles than the entire Republic of China's combined military materiel, is digging up roads and footways and planting brand new street lamps all over Norfolk when the existing ones are perfectly serviceable; when we have been warned that many of them will be switched off at nights anyway (to save energy) and when the County, the Country, the World and the Universe are all bankrupt.

I understand they may be powered by particles that travel faster than the speed of light. Perhaps someone will throw some of the old fashioned slow light on how many Norfolk Councilors and Members of HM Parliament have shares in AMEY plc, or have been bunged for letting the contract — or both!

It's also worth following the links to Grupo Ferrovial to find out just who, ultimately, is benefiting from the supply of lampposts and other goods and services that we do not need.

Perhaps the moment has passed but... it might be a long time until Saif, sat in a cell, has the luxury of a pouffe again.
