Is Clegg about to do a left turn?
James Forsyth 12:12pmNick Clegg is the subject of The Independent’ s ‘You ask the question..’ feature today. His answer to this question is particularly interesting:
Now, I may be reading way too much into a pithy response but it rather suggests to me that Clegg is shifting his political positioning leftwards. It might be that this is in response to the stories about him becoming Home Secretary in a Tory government or he might have decided that given the current political environment, the Lib Dem's best chance of gains at the next election are in Labour seats.Who was a worse PM, Blair or Brown?
Saurav C, by emailClegg: Blair was more wrong, Brown's more incompetent.

It makes sense. Blair was competent but pursued a disatrous policy based on mistruths.

Hint: Clegg's view of Blair being wrong might just have had something to do with Iraq, something the Tories seem not to like to be reminded about. Not exactly a left-right issue, more of a right-wrong issue.

June 2nd, 2008 8:00pm Report this commentI think you're crediting old Cleggover with a degree of political nous that he doesn't really possess. I'm ever more convinced that he's totally out of his depth. Brown may make the wrong decisions, but at least he makes them consistently!
