Now the Blairites want to be the heirs to Cameron's ideas

James Forsyth 6:21pm

A friend of Coffee House passes on an email from Progress which announces a series of seminars “which will ask whether progressives need to revisit their conception of the role of the state in the light of the political challenge presented by David Cameron's espousal of a post-bureaucratic state.”

It is interesting enough that a Labour group is now holding seminars on the Tory’s ideas. But who is speaking at these meetings is absolutely fascinating, it reads like a who’s who of Blairism.

John Hutton, Hazel Blears, James Purnell and Tessa Jowell—the remaining Blairite cabinet ministers—are each introducing a session. Others involved include Alan Milburn, Tony Giddens and Matthew Taylor. One wonders whether they’ll end up agreeing that Cameron, not Gordon, really is Tony’s true heir.

When will Tories drop this "Dave is really Tony" crap? You spent 10 years telling us Tony was the antichrist and now you pretend you really loved him all the while. Give over.

If the Blairites are doing anything it is plotting how to do your guy in when the party finally gets round to facing up to Gordon's failures and dumping him.

C'mon guys how come no Coffee House post on the biggest story in British politics today Giles snout in the trough Chichester sailing off into the sunset. Conway now Chichester looks like Dave his going to have to put the stick about yet again.

Tories need to realise that if they are going to into politics they have to live on the salary no if's no buts, no Telegraph columns, no dodgy expenses just the salary. If you don't like it find another job.

perdix-Your right the bloody lot of need to realise that if they are going to into politics they have to live on the salary no if's no buts, no Telegraph columns, no dodgy expenses just the salary. If you don't like it find another job.

Just been Tories caught a lot recently & lets face they do have plenty of form don't they I'm sure we all remember Hamilton "cash for questions" & the Ritz in Paris at the fag end of the Major years

I loved that phrase Chichester came up

"whoops-a-daisy I am shown up to have made a mistake. OK, hands up, mea culpa and I am putting it right"

Arrogant prat, that should have been enough to sack him & can someone please tell me what MEP does? I'm a political junkie & I don't know.

Dave must be spitting feathers he skewers Brown at PMQ's & then whole Chichester thing is spread across the Media except the Speccie to remind us that the faces might have changed but the snouts are still firmly buried in the swill.

Guido is having loads of fun with this.

"David Cameron's espousal of a post-bureaucratic state."

They're talking about nothing else in the pubs and clubs round my way.

"John Hutton, Hazel Blears, James Purnell and Tessa Jowell"

All dead apart from Purnell, any reasonable person would assume. No reasonable person has ever heard of Purnell.

"One wonders whether they’ll end up agreeing that Cameron, not Gordon, really is Tony’s true heir"

Nice of you to admit it, at least.

Oh, I'm sorry, did you think that it was a good thing?

Nice of you to admit it, at least.

Perry, desperately trying to catch up.
