61 percent of voters think the Tories are tainted by financial sleaze

James Forsyth 10:21am

Jon Craig highlights this finding from today’s Populus poll which should worry the Tories. However, to be fair we should note that even more voters think that Labour is compromised by it; suggesting that the voters have reached a Guido-esque state on all this.

I am awaiting the Lab and Lib/Dem disclosures with great glee - the fact that none so far is forthcoming, is telling indeed. I think that the general lack of comment from the public (it would appear that it is the Beeb and the meeja who are trying to drive this story)shows that they too are aware that this is not linked only to the Tories

"61 percent of voters think the Tories are tainted by financial sleaze."

Me too. Cameron must be swift and ruthless in dealing with this. Radical, emergency surgery is called for. If necessary every single MEP should be expelled from the party. They're no bloody use anyway.

As I have said before, the way to deal with this problem is to pay MPs, and MEPs for that matter, an all-inclusive salary which is taxed. No expenses, no doubts and no fiddles available.

The salary would be on a scale determined by office, location etc.

Any expenses, ie. tax deductible claims, would be a matter for the individual to agree with HMRC. This is what those of us in real world have to do, in essence. Why not our rulers?
