Red Ken to run again
James Forsyth 1:11pm
Martin Bright, whose Dispatches programme on Ken Livingstone moved a lot of the allegations against him to the forefront of the mayoral debate, reports that Ken is not done yet and plans to be the Labour candidate in 2012. Presumably, Livingstone’s thinking is that Boris will find it more difficult to get re-elected during the mid-term of a Tory government than elected during the mid-term of a Labour government. Yet judging from how things have gone so far, Boris is settling into the job rather well. Indeed, I suspect he’ll win re-election by a larger margin than he defeated Livingstone by.

Add to this his attending mayors questions at city hall like some sad 23 year old reluctant to accept he's got to leave college.. Doesn't the man have a proper job to do?

I too would like to see Boris do well, but to 'suspect that he'll win re-election by a larger margin than he defeated Livingstone by'
is by Wild Speculation out of Wishful Thinking.
It's 4 years away.
None of us have any idea what the political landscape in London will be like then.

June 10th, 2008 6:46pm Report this commentI understand that, in all the decades there has been a separate authority for London, the Tories have held power only once before - for a single term, again at a time when the Labour Government was deeply unpopular.

I still see London is full of bendy busses and kids stabbing each other.
Has anyone see this weeks Eye some very embarrassing stories about his PR Guto Harri getting completely pissed at a Scottish Parliament do & leering over Interns & generally making a drunken fool of himself. Very funny.
Also looks like he is going to put knobber Norris on the board of TFL the man who bankrupted Jarvis & has plenty of dodgy history with the kapput Metronet.
TGF- Boris has got Patience Wheatcroft as his Ken sleaze finder general, good choice after didn't she work for Conrad Black as did Boris so they will know all about corruption, theft & lying at the top.
Funny neither of them seemed quiet as keen on exposing & criticising the theft of shareholders money from Hollinger International as they seem to be now in their fearless determination to find out what Ken & Lee Jasper got up to
I recall that Boris write a grovelling letter on behalf of his old boss to the Chicago court, didn't do his Lordship much good though.

Most people would, I think, agree that removing drunken yobs from public transport was a small step to restoring order. Ray Lewis is all about knife crime. And while bendy buses may do a fine job on the wide roads of downtown Frankfurt, they're not so efficacious around London's narrow streets. So we are going to have a new Routemaster design to make life safer for other road users. It's such a pity Red Ken has wasted so much money on indulging in his favourite pastime in office, that of destroying as much British heritage as possible.

June 10th, 2008 11:48pm Report this commentTiberius -Thanks, good to feel wanted, normally I just get abuse & I do always scan down the posts looking for you & TGF, consistently the most interesting posters on this forum. I love the knockabout & getting into a good clean ding dong with someone who knows what they are talking about it's so much fun & great way to have your knowledge, opinions & prejudices tested to destruction.
I promise that you don't want to be the dissenting voice over on Nurse Ratcheds blog the inmates particularly Verity & ann attack most viciously. Can't see why everyone wants to agree with each other that would be so dull like Conservative Home or Mrs Dale, what annoys me is the personal abuse & the nit picking about grammar & punctuation.....BORING
To Battle- Firstly I agree about Ray Lewis, from what I've read he does seems to be the real deal. Three children have been stabbed to death within 400M of my house (near Chez Boris) in the last 18mths something has to be done, but what can one guy do? I don't want to be too pessimistic but some of the kids round here are going to be very difficult to reach & catch.
My personal trainer at the gym (I know so Islington) is a 28 year old black guy who looks the part martial arts & boxing really fit & an MC very street, he takes part in a mentoring organization & he comes back with hairaising tales of violence broken homes & lack of respect & these kids are 13, after his stories & experiences I cross the road when I see a pack of feral kids. Ultimately the reduction of violent crime is what Boris is going to judged on & it's going to take more than Ray Lewis & a few extra coppers to make any difference but I really do wish him well- who wouldn't.
Drunken yobs looks like Boris has is own home grown one with Guto Harri. As I have said before the real trouble with drunkenness on the Tube is people getting on already pissed not someone drinking a can of Stella in the seat on the way home from work & I bet it was the tiniest fraction of on the tube drinkers that were drunken yobs. This was Boris trying to look hard the worst kind gesture politics, dangerous dogs act all over again. Why do they always want to ban things?
The new Routemaster is a gimmick & Boris already back pedalling like mad looks like the pointy heads have told him it's non starter this will quietly dropped mark my words. If Boris so concerned about the safety of other road users why oppose 20 mph zones when all the evidence points to them making a real difference to road safety.

Ultimately I don't like the man he makes my skin crawl & it's not a party political thing Yvette Cooper & Geoff Hoon have the same affect on me... Totally irrational I'm sure but there you go.
