A show of strength
James Forsyth 12:11pmNeil O’Brien and Richard North’s Downing Street petition, demanding that Brown abandon ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, is now the third most popular live petition on the Downing Street site. There are currently 15,507 signatures on it which is pretty remarkable considering that it has only been up for just over 24 hours. I think the record for one of these petitions is the 1.7 million plus who signed the road pricing petition. If this one got anywhere near that it would show Brown the strength of feeling on this issue.

Brown believes he knows best.
He has confirmed that the ratification of the Constitreaty will go ahead. Implicit in his words is the threat that pressure will be put on the Irish government to hold another vote.
This is truly pointless. The EU hasn't even broken stride as it marches toward the EU superstate.
Our government trashed Magna Carta with 42 days detention and now they are working their way through the rest of our rights.

June 18th, 2008 1:08pm Report this commentWhat on earth is the point of this exercise? Since when has Downing Street paid any attention to petitions? The whole thing remains a charade. The facility to easily start a petition for the gullible idiots to sign is simply a means of control and dispersal.
If you want this government to change direction over anything at all you must embarrass it. Petitions do nothing.

June 18th, 2008 9:54pm Report this commentTalk about a manipulative government. There are 2 petitions on the Downing Street website in favour of NOT ratifying Lisbon and 1 that I know of in favour of capitulation to Brussels. What is Downing Street playing at allowing 2 petitions, conquering by devision? Some Democracy - Imagine what it will be like when we are all subsumed into US of Europe / the Fatherland!

He will have total disregard for it. I signed it anyway, mainly to annoy him in case he sneaks down to his study to check it out at 4am one morning.
