The disgruntled speak out

Peter Hoskin 12:27pm

Over at Comment Central, Danny Finkelstein's posted a couple of no-holds-barred quotations from Labour MPs:

"Our Leader is utterly useless. If you asked him which of the two doors from this room he was going to exit from he would be incapable of choosing. And if someone else chose the door for him he wouldn't be able to make his way there."

And,

"The one good thing about global warming is that as the waters rise, Hazel Blears will drown first."

Of course, it's no surprise that certain Labour MPs aren't happy with the party leadership.  Nonetheless, it's telling that they're expressing this in quite such blunt terms.  As Finkelstein says, it has all the hallmarks of a party in terminal "meltdown".

Not if she stands on a soap box, well two soap boxes then.

This is meaningless. Unless someone is prepared to wield the axe and suffer the opprobrium of the party (but the thanks of a grateful nation) then it is just so much 'Referendum' talk.

So what is the MP who says is Leader is utterly useless doing to get rid of him?
Brown is not just Leader of the Labour Party, he is Prime Minister. So this MP thinks we've got a useless PM. I do too, but he's in more of a position to do something about it.
Or does he think it's OK to have a known useless PM in power for another ouple of years?
I really dislike this; what I regard as over-deference to the Leader.

Leaders are not in place by right, if the parties are discontent they should be
replaced.Giving out quotes to journalists, under condition of anonymity I would guess, can provide entertainment for those of us who like a bit of political gossip but is no way to run the business of the country.
Some meetings are obviously confidential, but if you're prepared to say something publicly you should be prepared to put your name to it.

I don't like politicians.

And I would like to see a lot less deference to leaders.

Sadly - according to governemt statistics - Jaqui Smith is a couple of inches taller than Hazel Blears!

Of course, as with all anonymous quotes there's no guarantee there were ever actually said.

I heard the Hazel Blears one months ago.

As for Brown, we know he's useless, his MPs know his useless, he's been elected by no-one but we appear to be stuck with him. Given how extravagantly they were all praising him last year, it would take a heart of stone not to laugh at them now.

What Kevyn Bodman said.

Brown has dedicated his whole life to this.

Labour elected him without opposition.

At least he deserves a shot at a General Election.
