If Brown can't win in Scotland, where can he win?

There is another set of depressing poll numbers for Gordon Brown today. A new YouGov poll for The Telegraph has the SNP ahead of Labour in general election voting intention for the first time—the SNP is on 33, Labour 29, the Tories 20 and the Lib Dems 14. Although as Anthony Wells notes, Labour would still have (if there was a uniform swing) the most seats in Scotland—31 to the SNP’s 14, with 10 for the Lib Dems and four for the Tories.
The extent of dissatisfaction with Labour north of the border is demonstrated by the fact that 49 percent of voters there would like to see Labour lose Glasgow East to the SNP, compared to the third who would like to see Labour hold on. Nervous Labour MPs must be wondering where this all ends. If there is such an appetite to kick the Prime Minister in his own country which in recent times has been a Labour stronghold, how bad must things be down south.

July 11th, 2008 2:09pmRather than, as is sometimes suggested, Gordon Brown being a Communist sleeper placed into the Labour party and activated so as to destroy the UK economy and society; is it in fact possible that he has been turned and is now actively trying to destroy the Labour Party? The events of the last nine months or so do lend credence to this latter theory, mind you the events of the preceding 10 years do seem to support the former.

July 11th, 2008 2:43pmAs someone who lives in a suburban/semi-rural constituency in the south, let me tell you: they are very, very bad for GB indeed. If Labour thought losing Gravesham in 2005 was a bad sign, then things are going to get a lot worse in 2008/9/10.
NB: Gravesham is a seat in North Kent that supposedly "predicts the general election" as it has elected the winning party at most gen elections since about 1950.

Britain’s on its knees and instead of keeping spirits high, the public is kicked to the ground with further taxes, its not just about the tightening of belts, its the hangman’s loose tightening around all our throats that this Government has created, and by the very party who is supposed to represent the working class first and foremost.
How can he win?....

July 11th, 2008 5:26pmI sincerely hope he gets kicked to a bloody pulp - metaphorically speaking of course - at the next election. He has been an absolute disaster for this country and the only sensible thing he did was hand over control of interest rates to the Bank of England. At least he had the wit to realise that he was incapable of getting that right.

July 11th, 2008 9:04pmA long long time ago - before Cameron made the remark (and how well was it reported then?), I said Brown was not the solution, he was the problem.
Blair has done this country many a disservice but the greatest was not sacking Brown after is first re-election. But of course he like the rest of the labour numties, actually believed Brown was a good Chancellor (or more to the point, knew nothing about the economy). Dopes.
Equally, BTW, was Brown educated in Economics? No, history. At least that should help him in rewriting it once he is thrown out.

July 11th, 2008 9:55pmHe would probably win in Rhodesia if he chummied up to Mugabe. No doubt there are already rooms full of national socialist plotters conniving at ways to change the voting system to ensure he wins here in 2010.
