Anthony Browne joins Team Boris
James Forsyth 7:50pmAnthony Browne, the director of Policy Exchange, is going to work for Boris Johnson as the Mayor’s policy director. This means that the job of running the most influential think tank on the centre-right is now up for grabs.
Given Policy Exchange’s influence on the Tory leadership—James O’Shaughnessy went from being head of research at Policy Exchange to being head of policy for the Tories, and many of the party’s best ideas have their origins in a Policy Exchange pamphlet—there will be intense interest in the Westminster Village in who gets the job.

July 22nd, 2008 8:33amTrev, I'd suggest 75% of the Enlish vote would go to you on that manifesto.
Why do they have to be make it more complicated?
VOTE TREVOR H!!!

July 22nd, 2008 8:47amI reckon they should save themselves the recruitment costs and just give the job to the recently-appointed Deputy, Natalie Evans. Very able and demonstrably sane.

July 22nd, 2008 9:46amTrevor H you do not get my vote - sorry.
You miss out the one issue that is crippling this country and bleeding its finance and infrastructure.
We must stop immigration as a number one priority.
Until we do you tinker around the edges of the problem.
No more PC is number two and as you didn't mention immigration I guess you are PC.
No 3 get out of Europe and reassert our sovereignty and independence.
Actually that should be no 1=.
Get our country back on all fronts.
Elizabeth
July 22nd, 2008 10:48amMay I add another
Turn this country into a proper Federal State instead of the constitutional stitch up it has now. We need controls on the Executive which has become a dictatorship in its contempt for parliament.
Create an English parliament and give all four parts of the UK equal rights and the opportunity to run their own affairs.
No more discrimination against the long suffering English -milch cows for the milking of.

July 22nd, 2008 11:15amTrevor, Capital to corporal per HH. You say nothing about drugs - in addition to Elzabeth's list. And how about removal of bus lanes? And the disconnecting of public service private enterprises eg clampers from the income they generate?

July 22nd, 2008 11:39amRemember a Home Secretary can always commute a death sentence.
But all you people out there, remind me ... how many youths murdered thanks to knife crime, this year alone?
And what about gun crime deaths?
I read only the other day (The Times) about hundreds of Russian pistols (the gangsters 'weapon of choice') being imported via Lithuania (isn't the EU just wonderful?).
Coffee Housers are a timid bunch, you talk the talk but don't walk the walk.

July 22nd, 2008 11:43amBTW, Elizabeth --- I thought I was being quite subtle on the issue of the EU, after all it is a think tank I am auditioning for. Taking my cue from the Smith Institute, I did not want to be too transparent.

July 22nd, 2008 12:38pmCan we stop offering single motherhood as a career choice and start paying out for quality kids instead of quantity kids particularly the feral variety.
Can we stop allowing pregnancy to be a tenants agreement on a secure home and rent, council tax and pension for life.
Can we start looking at adoption and less as IVF as an expensive right.

July 22nd, 2008 3:51pmI'll also vote for you TrevH
I also agree with Elizabeth@9:46 were she says
"You miss out the one issue that is crippling this country and bleeding its finance and infrastructure.
We must stop immigration as a number one priority".
I would add to this:- stop all the benefits being paid to these immigrants, especially that of child benefit being paid to them for their children who do not (in a lot of cases) even reside in this country!!!!

July 22nd, 2008 5:50pmHave long opposed capital punishment. But you haven't answered about bus lanes, Trevor and how about the Health'n Safety commission/acts/officers...?
Elizabeth
July 22nd, 2008 8:23pmBus lanes. Don't be hasty Ian.
Traffic seems to be already thinning out and wait until the new car tax kicks in.
If the warmongers get their way and attack Iran, petrol will double in price and more.
You yourself may yet be reduced to a bus.
Plenty of others will.
The poor and most of the old and even middle classes will be forced off the road.
