I presume what everyone thinks is coming is a night of the long knives ???
Dumping Milliband on his fatuous backside would in fact be doing the country a great service. Quite out of character for Brown.

Doh!

July 31st, 2008 6:05pm Report this commentBrown knows that Blair's backside-sitting for 10 years and not sacking Brown never did, erm, Brown any harm. Can you imagine how much better a place the world would be now had Blair fired this treacherous, malcontended incompetent in about 1998?

July 31st, 2008 6:09pm Report this commentGordon is hiding and dithering again. He has an opportunity to be decisive but, inevitably, he will bottle it. He seems to be totally unaware that many perceive his gloomy introspective inertia as cowardice and perhaps it is.

July 31st, 2008 6:16pm Report this commentI disagree with your headline. Miliband has been pretty canny, he has stolen a march on other potential challengers by getting out there first. Witness people ringing into five live saying things like 'we need someone like you' etc etc, video all over the media showing gatherings of people outside the studios wanting his autograph. Pretty good PR I'd say.

July 31st, 2008 7:00pm Report this commentAgree with Carol-Ann - Miliband is being cannier than the Brownites. The sack Miliband stuff is way over the top and heavyhanded and only makes Brown look rattled. Blair may not have sacked Brown - but equally he never behaved as if he was unsettled by him. As for the BBC spinning for the Brownites - so what's new?

July 31st, 2008 11:11pm Report this commentWhat comes around goes around! A wonder if Brown ever considered such things would happen to him? He was destabalising a 3 times elected PM for a decade. As another contributer stated, Blair should have sacked him for disloyalty.
