Has Harman ruled herself out?
Peter Hoskin 1:36pm
Harriet Harman has been one of those mooted to succeed Gordon Brown. But here's what she says in today's News of the World (article not online, as far as I can tell):
"When you face these kinds of global problems you need as prime minister someone who is respected ... Gordon Brown is the right person for the job."
With a leadership struggle on the horizon, there's a danger of reading too much into what the main players say. And, as James suggested a few days ago, Harman could be holding back for strategic reasons. But, still, this message of support sounds as unambiguous as they get. Certainly more unambiguous than anything David Miliband's saying.

And that would be Brown would it? Yes, the polls are certainly indicating lots of respect.
GE now please!

a) a fairly polite statement that one D. Miliband is not up handling these kinds of global problems, and
b) an avowal that Harriet Harman is intending to enter the leadership contest free of disloyalty to her predecessor.

Diversity has got the meaning.
She'll wait until Brown is safely dead before throwing her hat into the ring.

Anyway if Gordon Brown does go, it doesn't make any difference, they won't be in power come the election,(I Hope).

But I didn't say the polls were a definitive judgement did I? And I think it is more than a "cross-section" of the electorate who understand just where we are and have shown it in various elections recently.
And I probably do have more faith in democracy than most Labour supporters, who seem to want to alternately manipulate the electorate and then scorn it when it doesn't do what they expect.

August 4th, 2008 12:23am Report this commentWho actually cares what HH thinks or says. She is a greater nonentity than most of the cabinet. Had she not (quite surprisingly) won the deputy leadership race, does anyone actually believe she's now be in the cabinet. Even TB (perhaps pressured from GB) had the good sense to fire her. She is next to useless, another one of these NL politicos who believe their own publicity and hype. By all means allow her to run for and win the NL leadership, if we thought defeat under GB was going to be fun to watch, then that under a HH leadership will be all the more so.
