Reverend Wright plans an October surprise

James Forsyth 7:39pm

New York Magazine has done a special issue this week on race and the US election. There’s lot of good stuff in the package but this line from John Heilemann’s cover story stood out to me:

“In October, Obama’s former pastor, Wright, will publish a new book and hit the road to promote it”

This is a huge problem for Obama. It means that the whole controversy over Wright’s racialist sermons and his friendship with Obama is going to be returning to the news agenda just as undecided voters begin to make up their minds.

Wright’s performance at the National Press Club back in April showed that Wright revels in the national spotlight and doesn’t care if his performances hurt Obama. If the Obama campaign and mutual friends of the two men couldn’t rein Wright in then, they have little hope of doing so in October considering that following Wright’s National Press Club performance Obama said that Wright’s views ‘rightly offend all Americans, and should be denounced’.

Update: See Roland Martin's comment below, turns out there might not be a book after all.

The wheels are coming off so fast that pretty soon Obama himself is going to be under the bus.

We know he is being coached in expression and gestures by George Clooney, for God's sake. How desperate is that? And he's going to have the biggest Hollywood contingent ever supporting him. Flyover country just loves all those rich Hollywood lefties. Uh-huh.

(I'm sorry, I don't have a link for the following. My friend sent it to me inline.)

May 5, 2008 issue of Newsweek "These questions need to be answered, have waited for over 90 days and still no reply. So you want to make a change, to what?"

My friend sent me the whole thing online, without a link. But I'm going to send it to Pete and see if he will allow it to go up.

I'm soooo glad Obama is the democratic candidate. It's almost as if the democrats WANT McCain to win... why else nominate the most liberal jackass marxist in the history of the country? He can't keep avoiding his positions, he does have a record of his opinions and positions, and as soon as Americans start to care about the election (ie Sept-Nov) the facts will sink his ship.

There's a moron here, but it's not James Forsyth. The upset isn't in the announcement of the book. It's the fact he'll be releasing the book and promoting it in October. That's when it'll get attention.

It appears that one egomaniacal blowhard is looking to steal some thunder from another.

Any reminder of Obama's radical, corrupt history and associations will sink him further than he's already gone- and no amount of scripted, empty speeches will change that.

The empty Hope and Change rhetoric is already getting old. Voters will recognize that delivering speech in 2004 plus writing two books about Obama's favorite subject (himself) does not a qualified President make.

Throw in a helping of Wright, Ayers, Rezko, and Obama's earmark payoffs for campaign contributors and he's done for.

Thanks, Reverend Wright!

Obama is done. With or without Wright putting out a book because America is starting to look through the media hype and they're seeing Obama for what he really is: an elitist, a globalist and a socialist. He scares the sh*t out of most of America. If he doesn't scare you then your liberalism truly is a mental disorder.

Daughter: Rev. Wright NOT publishing book in October

http://essence.typepad.com/news/2008/08/daughter-rev-wr.html

by Roland S. Martin
Essence.com

A New York magazine cover story last week reignited the debate over Rev. Jeremiah Wright when it stated - without attribution - that the former pastor of Sen. Barack Obama was releasing a new book.

But his daughter, Jeri, told me today that the story is absolutely false.

"The only book we're working on is the history of Trinity (United Church of Christ) and I haven't even started editing that," Wright told Essence.com.

After I reached out to her, she called her father, who is teaching and ministering in Ghana (I ran into him last month when I was in the West African nation) and said he "laughed" when she asked about the book.

"He said that he also got an email, but was unable to respond since he's in email hell," Wright said, meaning in a place in Ghana where it's difficult to send and receive email.

"I asked him if he was writing and he said, 'Nope. I'm not publishing anything. I'm not going on any book tours.'"

Rumors about a pre-election book by Wright have been surfacing for the last few months, and intensified since the New York article.

It even has caused a stir among Obama supporters, who were also chasing down the rumor to see if there was any legitimacy to it.

I even got calls from executives in the publishing world inquiring as to whether the story is true.

Jeri Wright says when her dad returns to another part of Ghana, he will issue a formal response to the New York article reiterating that what they reported is false.

Aslo, Escott, could you tell us why you think putting something online is "printing"? Pringing is done with a printing press. On-line text is done on the internet. If you are going to fling dated scorn around, you should have your technologies clear in your own mind.

Speaking of "lies", I note that one of Rev Wright's adult children has denied that he is writing a book. So that's a 'yes', then.

I don't care who Roland Martin spoke with and who told him there's no book. A respected man like The Rev. Wright cannot be tossed under the bus, before the entire world, without speaking out sooner or later. And, he deserves a chance to speak out, too.

Of course when he releases the book is up for grabs, but I'd think it would be in his best interest to release it in October to get more sales because Barack Obama won't win this election. People who have never voted in their lives are now registering and they will be lining up in droves to vote against him.

So if the Rev. Wright wants to redeem his excellent reputation, he'd better get it out in October.

Ryan Field - I agree that the Rev Wright cannot be tossed under the bus lightly. I also agree that being thrown under the bus probably didn't sit well with him, as he seems to be an individual with a strong sense of self worth.

I also agree that his optimum window of opportunity for making large sums from his book will be the month of October.

As you rightly say, after November Obama will sink from view as fast as John Kerry.

In fact, he should make it early October, just in case Obama doesn't even get nominated.
