Standing up for America

James Forsyth 11:29am

American public diplomacy is nowhere near as good as it should be. So, it is good to see Tim Montgomerie of Conservative Home fame taking on some of the myths that do so much damage to America’s reputation.

The United States is neither a perfect nation nor a perfect ally but the world is a much better place for America’s involvement in it.  America in the world will make that case and I’d urge you all to visit it.

James

You are unfair in blaming America's mainly negative image on American diplomacy being "nowhere near as good as it should be".

What you should also have mentioned is that for the last 30 years at least, the Gramscian cultural left hegemony in the arts, in the media and in education has assidiously propagated a negative, biased and inaccurate narrative of America, which has been swallowed whole by a population either unable or unwilling to make the effort to distinguish between fact and prejudice.

Me too. There's a bit in the Telegraph somewhere about misconceptions about the USA held by the average Brit.

The proof of America's worth can be seen in the simple fact that for generations she was - and still is - a magnet for people from all over the globe who know that in the USA they can fulfill their aspirations.

People vote with their feet. How many immigrants do the wonderful 'People's Republics' like Cuba or North Korea attract?
