A variation on the Goldberg

The greatest piece of classical music ever written?  Stephen is the better judge of all that, but as far as I'm concerned, Bach's Goldberg Variations is the perfect work. One new version I've been listening to lately is Dimitry Sitkovetsky's string trio arrangement performed by violinist Julian Rachlin, viola player Nobuko Imai and cellist Mischa Maisky. I thought it was a little bland the first time I heard it; now I'm hooked. What a treat to discover that a concert recording has now turned up on YouTube. It comes from a chamber festival that Rachlin organizes in Dubrovnik each summer. The first instalment includes  the Aria and the first two variations. Magical.
