Do Labour ministers want to lose the by-election?
Peter Hoskin 6:19pm
We all know that there are plenty of knives out for Gordon Brown in the Labour Party. But a detail in this post by Benedict Brogan is still pretty astonishing. He writes of a Labour minister who said he'd like the party to be defeated in Crewe and Nantwich by a Tory landslide, so they can "force the bastard out". Unfortunately, Brogan's "Tory informant" didn't reveal who that minister was. Any guesses?

May 20th, 2008 9:19pmA Labour Minister? How about Des Browne? He looks like he's had enough. BTW how's this for a Brownie? Gordon claimed in his interview for Stoke radio (as reported in the DT) that he was followed around by a man in a kilt playing the bagpipes to show up his Scottishness at his last constituency election. Except that just happens to be in Scotland! Isn't being Scottish supposed to be good in Scotland? True there was a bit of send-up bagpipe playing when Broon got elected PM but that was something entirely different. Is Brown a congenital liar - or is he incurably confused?

So far only Harriet Harmthenation has donned an anti-stab vest. Wonder how long before it is the de rigeur tog for all the cabinet plotters? The thought of Chairman Brown adding an armour plated peaked cap a le Adolf is hilarious.
