That was quick

I’m not normally particularly keen on athletics, but Usain Bolt’s performance in the 100 metres final was awesome. (If you missed it, you can watch it here.) You don’t expect to see anyone coasting across the line to win the gold in the 100 metres let alone to break the world record.

August 16th, 2008 8:33pmIt's all a matter of ancestry. No white athlete has reached the Olympics 100m final in the past quarter of a century. But those who conclude that skin colour alone is what counts are wrong. It's all about geographical origins. Those who trace their ancestry to West African coastal states have an inbred aptitude for sprinting, and East Africans, by contrast, notably those from specific areas of the Rift Valley, excel at distance running. So, if you're a black athlete, and you aspire to becoming the world's fastest man, it's where you come from that counts.

August 16th, 2008 10:29pmDon`t be so bah humbug Paul L- we have just witnessed a supreme sporting moment. The man has just beaten the best of the rest of the world, with style, panache & ease and in my books is entitled to a bit of preening.
Sport is also entertainment and it needs showman. We don`t want boring, grey conformity all the time-especially in China-good luck to him, he has the world at his very talented and fast feet now.
