It's typical. You wait ten years for an event like today and what happens? You get stuck in Brussels. Would you like to know how much coverage there's been here in the 'capital' of the EU. Nada. Zilch. I've zapped my remote through every non-English TV channel to find any mention of Blair's departure and haven't found even a whisper.

So this morning I asked a few people at the event I was at - Commission types, MEPs, that sort - what they thought about today. And they were, without exception, uninterested.

So what, seemed to be the general view. He's been impotent for years anyway.
It's always interesting to get a foreign impression of domestic events. Usually I like having a slightly different take. But today I just want to be at home, submerged in the wall-to-wall coverage.

So I've jumped on the Eurostar and am typing this on the train. I've set my SkyPlus remotely to record Sky News. Isn't modern technology grand?!

"today I just want to be at home, submerged in the wall-to-wall coverage" You'd be wasting your time watching the usual suspects saying things you know they're going to say about an event you knew well in advance was due to happen. In fact your presence abroad and your first-hand experience of the mood (or lack of it) outside these shores is the only genuinely interesting thing I expect to hear on the subject. You can take that as a compliment.

Much as I dislike Blair, the complete lack of interest amongst Eurocrats in who is the British Prime Minister tells you all you need to know about their priorities. How about cutting off the EU funding to which Blair has so generously supplied from the British taxpayer. I am guessing that will interest them.

This is very sad or you are demonstrating what 'saddos' you journos can be! I have been in the car and listening to Radio5 Live. I heard it live and my sick bag was nearly overflowing. One reporter was in tears reporting the bit about Britain being the bestest nation, saying 'you would never have heard that sort of thing from former pms'. Dead right. They would not have been so arrogant on our behalf - to claim that one nation is superior to others is nothing less than offensive.(The jibes we will suffer for that in future; thanks Tone). Yuk -and get him out of here. Bring on the next election which 76% of listeners were saying should be now. They're right. Then you can have your day(s) of fun - today, you did not miss a thing except fawning reporters and the sudden appearance of politicians that you had not seen for years.

Sorry to disappoint you Stephen, but you haven't missed much.. the BBC's coverage has beaten Sky's hands down today.
