Shut up, Charles

Prince Charles was busy abusing his position again this morning, lecturing us on deforestation on the Today programme.

This man has a choice to make: it he wants to take part in political debates, step aside as heir to the throne. If he wants the privileges that come with his position: shut up and behave like his mother.

There was a line I liked, however, when he was speaking about lobbying President Sarkozy:

I had a word with President Sarkozy the other day. I had to pick him up at the airport and take him to Windsor, so I spoke to him then.
I do like the image of Charles standing waiting at the arrivals gate with a sign saying 'Sarkozy' and helping the French President with his luggage into the back of his car before driving him to his destination.

Actually, there is no constitutional convention restricting the presumptive heir in the same way that there is for the monarch. Charles is therefore free to say what he wishes, until such time that he ascends the throne.

What a disrespectful piece. It's "shut up, your royal highness".

Oh, and he's the heir apparent not the heir presumptive.

Get off his back!

He and his Sons liven the place up and seem well in tune with the changing mood of the country! Nobody minds a Loon these days (or a Toff)

With the coming constitutional turmoil (Scottish Independence, NI, dawning realisation of the primacy of the EU etc.) England will need a Monarch who speaks out and shows The Kings Will as corrupt Politicians attempt to mend what they have broken and who act, undemocratically but constitutionaly, in The Kings Name!

Supported by his life-living warrior Princes be sure Charles will have a following and a role very different from his Mother (God Bless Her!)

Stephen, you were as annoyed as I was yesterday and probably blogged this while brushing your teeth (well I was brushing mine while it was on!). If he had done his homework with a slightly more sceptical eye he would see that the subject matter has had plenty of unnecessary interventions already from that worse than useless UN.

Shut up yourself. He is as entitled to express his views as you are.

Simon, I was rather hoping that if Scotland did break away from the union, they might take their royal family with them.

Those bastards chopping down forests so they can have the luxury of a little meat to eat.

It's far more important for him to fly off to Klosters for a skiing trip.

That bit about Sarkozy was funny!
