Go Mel!

Well deserved too; the single handed, early twenty first centuries enlightenment spectacular. All are dimmed, all are lost in the jet stream of Melanie's incomparable grasp of the ailing British and the worlds complicated infections. All to be ignored at our peril. Never have we needed the words of wisdom and common sense more. To be handed such a writer to inform and educate our blurring vision among such a mine field of misinformation is a blessing indeed.

Neil Foster

January 8th, 2009 8:42am

Bit of shameless self-promotion there, Mel (- the link leads to a poll, naturally). Perhaps you should make this a little clearer in your original post.

Unfortunately for the ballot-stuffers it's a completely worthless 'award'.

Neil Foster

January 8th, 2009 8:44am

Jose Garcia's post says it all: "we can vote every 24h, just press the link"

Hurrah for democracy!

Yet another vote. Go Girl, you are by far the most essential reading on the web. You never fail to raise the hairs on the back of my neck with your quite brilliant & powerful prose

Joan

I am certainly not amazed Melanie, think your blog is the very best but being a NZer unfortunately not able to vote for you. Many over here who follow your writing daily. Blessings.

Kiwi

January 8th, 2009 10:42am

Neil Foster: You're a bundle of fun aren't you? I took a look at some of the 'competition' - all promoting themselves as well. And why not?
Melanie: I hope you not only win, but any resulting publicity will encourage many more readers to your excellent, straight-talking blog - Your voice needs to be heard.

Kiwi

January 8th, 2009 10:47am

Joan: I voted for Mel from NZ - no problem. (and I'll be doing it again every day!!)

It would be a pity for this "award" to turn into a ballot-stuffing competition between (say) the Melanie Phillips Fan Club and the Neil Clark Sock Puppet Society. How many people actually checked out the other contenders?
I voted for Baldy's Blog myself, and recommend that everyone at least looks at it.

Raymond Joseph Douglas, what is your problemo?

Samantha Jones

January 8th, 2009 9:48pm

Well done Melanie, it's long overdue. I sincerely hope you win it because you are one of the few journos who tell it like it is.

Winston Smith

January 8th, 2009 10:27pm

Well this is understandable that you are in the finals and by the looks of it about to win. All one has to do is look at the amount of comments you get on your blogs compared to other writers here in the Spectator.
I've read your books. You are a strong, traditionalist woman, with a good education that, unlike NuLabour and the Left, doesn't believe in destroying the foundations of a great education so everyone else can continue to benefit. You have a moral compass and like to report on WHAT IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING all around the UK and the World, instead of the rest of the Media that is behaving like a member of Orwell's Ministry of Truth.
I applaud you Melanie Phillips and your writings. You keep me sane in this Mad World.
Well done Melanie and long may your integrity continue.

Mehran

January 8th, 2009 10:43pm

Well done Melanie. Just voted for you. I am very happy for you.

Caz

Just voted. Glad to see you are ahead still. Congratulations.

When did the world lose its sense of right and wrong ( probably under enormous mediahype and misrepresentation) that indicriminately firing rockets on innocent civilians is no longer a war crime but completely excusable for political justifications, and that premeditated killing is no longer murder.

How succesful must be the palestinian propaganda machine that the world now excuses whatever killing by missile scud, katyusha or kassam rocket, and suicide bombers mudering , and hijacking, and kidnapping done by the islamo fascists and other terror groups is now acceptable or excusable behaviour no matter how devilishly evil it is.

Let us pray that these people never get hold of a nuclear warhead otherwise there is no hope of security in the world, EVER.

Joan

January 9th, 2009 10:45am

Kiwi - Did say thanks and voted straight away - See it did not go through. Once again 'Thanks'

Joe Camel

January 9th, 2009 3:41pm

Storm clouds on the horizon. Melanie's lead has narrowed to just 50 votes, equivalent to 1.2 percentage points.

margaret J I think you have misunderstood raymonds english -he was being complimentary :)
I HAVE VOTED

Joe Camel

January 9th, 2009 7:15pm

In the three-and-a-half hours since my previous post, Melanie has added a further 152 votes (now on 1425) but she has been overtaken by Brand X, which has added 226 votes in the same period, going from 1223 to 1449 votes. Please regard this alert as a call to action.

January 9th, 2009 10:24pm

Hey- I've just registered my vote, Mel!
Come on, other Melaphiles, it's the easiest thing in the orld to do and a real blow for one of the few astute, freedom fighting journalists of our day.
Just glad Mr F.Nelson wasn't also nominated as I'd've been in a terrible quandry!

Tas Walker

January 10th, 2009 6:24am

Congratulations!!! Wonderful.

kiwi

January 10th, 2009 11:37am

I have a hunch that the Moonbats are tactically voting for the 'arty farty' blog, "Created in Birmingham", in an attempt to prevent a Melanie Phillips victory - it's now a matter of national security that we don't let the buggers win:)

phil

January 10th, 2009 6:15pm

kiwi YOU HAVE IT RIGHT FOR SURE -they are the kings of dirty tricks .no offence to the other blog site -maybe he will do a john sargeant :)

Beyond Row

January 11th, 2009 6:47pm

Kiwi and Phil, maybe you should get out more? The whole world doesn't have a conspiracy against you and everything you like. If you actually took the time to check out Created in Birmingham, you'll find it's a great blog, posting pockets of creativeness and making peoples lives better. Created in Birmingham has a massive following and not only that, they're the most intelligent and web savvy people around, it’s called viral marketing. Despite Melanie's readership CiB are going to win because they deserve it. It’s run on no budget whatsoever, Melanie goes home with a pay packet at the end of the month, these guys don’t.

Vicki from Phoenix Arizona
