President Obama has had, by general consent, a torrid First Fortnight. To put it another way, it has taken precisely two weeks for the illusion that brought him to power to be exposed for the nonsense that it so obviously was. The transformational candidate who was going to sweep away pork-barrel politics, lobbyists and corruption has been up to his neck in sleaze, as eviscerated here by Charles Krauthammer. Despite the fact that he came to power promising to ‘ban all earmarks’, his ‘stimulus’ bill represents billions of dollars of special-interest tax breaks, giveaways and protections -- which have nothing to do with kick-starting the economy and everything to do with favouring pet Democrat causes.
He has been appointing one tax dodger, lobbyist and wheeler-dealer after another. After appointing one official,Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, who had unaccountably forgotten to pay his taxes, he then watched his designated Health Secretary Tom Daschle fall on his sword because he too had taken a tax holiday. Daschle was furthermore a prominent actor in the world of lobbying and influence-peddling. Leon Panetta, Obama’s nominee for Director of the CIA has also, according to the Wall Street Journal, consulted for prominent companies and sat on the board of a public affairs firm that lobbies Congress. The Weekly Standard reports that Secretary of Labour nominee Hilda Solis was not only involved with a private organization lobbying her fellow legislators on a bill that she helped sponsor, but she apparently kept her involvement secret and failed to reveal a clear conflict of interest.
In foreign policy, Obama has started by trashing his own country through grossly misrepresenting its history and grovelling to America’s enemies such as Iran, which has flicked him aside with undiluted contempt. He has gratuitously upset America’s ally India by suggesting that America should muscle in and resolve the Kashmir question.
His right hand doesn’t seem to know what his left hand is doing. He reportedly asked retired Marine General Anthony Zinni to be US ambassador to Iraq, but then abruptly withdrew the appointment without explanation after it had been confirmed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. And the precise role he is offering Dennis Ross – special envoy to Iran? Special adviser to Hillary? Special adviser to other special advisers? – remains mired in confusion.
I have argued before however that, given Obama’s radical roots in the neo-Marxist, nihilist politics of Saul Alinsky, it is the undermining of America’s fundamental values that is likely to be this President’s most strategically important goal. I have also suggested that, since this agenda is promoted through stealth politics which gull the credulous middle-classes while destroying the ground upon which they are standing, his second-tier appointments should be closely scrutinised.
And here’s a humdinger. Obama has picked a man called David Ogden to be deputy Attorney-General. Ogden has made his legal career from representing pornographers, trying to defeat child protection legislation and undermining family values. As FoxNews reported this week, he once represented a group of library directors arguing against the Children's Internet Protection Act, which ordered libraries and schools receiving funding for the Internet to restrict access to obscene sites. And on behalf of several media groups, he successfully argued against a child pornography law that required publishers to verify and document the age of their models, which would have ensured these models were at least 18.
The Family Research Council has more examples of his contribution to upholding American and western values. In one such case, he expressed the view that abortion was less damaging to a woman than having children:
In sum, it is grossly misleading to tell a woman that abortion imposes possible detrimental psychological effects when the risks are negligible in most cases, when the evidence shows that she is more likely to experience feelings of relief and happiness, and when child-birth and child-rearing or adoption may pose concomitant (if not greater) risks or adverse psychological effects ...
In another, co-authored brief, he argued that it was an unconstitutional burden on 14-year old girls seeking an abortion for their parents to be notified -- because there was no difference between adults and mid-teens in their ability to grasp all the implications of such a decision:
There is no question that the right to secure an abortion is fundamental. By any objective standard, therefore, the decision to abort is one that a reasonable person, including a reasonable adolescent, could make. [E]mpirical studies have found few differences between minors aged 14-18 and adults in their understanding of information and their ability to think of options and consequences when asked to consider treatment-related decisions. These unvarying and highly significant findings indicate that with respect to the capacity to understand and reason logically, there is no qualitative or quantitative difference between minors in mid-adolescence, i.e., about 14-15 years of age, and adults.
And how did the 44th President react to the growing public dismay over the mess he was making? He threw his toys out of the pram -- or perhaps that should read, he got into the pram. For he fled the scene of the disaster and sought the company of seven year-olds instead. As the Telegraph reported:
‘We were just tired of being in the White House,’ he told a group of excited seven-year-olds before discussing Batman and reading them a book.
Tired of being President – after two weeks!
Tax cheats, pork-barrel politics, ancillary child abuse, incompetence, chaos, treachery and infantilism. America – what have you done?!

February 7th, 2009 6:21pmThis David Ogden guy sounds like a lovely guy. What's the chance that he also didn't pay taxes and won't be able to take his position?
I don't know what's more sad, the fact that the US is going under this way, or the fact that we are learning all of this about Obama from a a Brit, and not from our own countrymen (I'm american).

February 7th, 2009 6:27pmI'm surprised it's taken two weeks...
I just hope he doesn't have the kind of extended, hyper tolerant honeymoon afforded to new labour. The damage blair and his comrades wrought in that period where scrutiny, incredulity and in some cases the rule of law were suspended, will pale into insignificance.

mel, one-half of the usa remains sane.
if in doubt read the comments section at conservative websites.
in the past in overwhelming numbers conservative folks were simply depressed about the coming of the dear leader.
the situation in the past two to three weeks has chaged dramatically.
i won't bore you with the details.

February 7th, 2009 7:01pmCrunch. Looks like he put his first car in reverse hitting the vehicle behind, either by mistake, intent or because one or more of his passengers grabbed the wheel. Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens as our intrepid driver engages first gear and attempts to pull away. If any parts of the vehicles are entwined, the consequences should be interesting.
Frankly, no matter ones politics, empathy should be directed to those people who put a lot of sincere hope in Obama, namely the African Americans who were not really interested in the politics, but more in the psychological impact of having someone 'more like them' at the top. The fact so many travelled to and braved that freezing day to be at the inauguration is testament to that.
BTW, I recall clearly that things didn't get off to too good a start with (Bill) Clinton's first few weeks either, so maybe there is hope yet.

February 7th, 2009 7:04pmOf course you're right, Melanie. But this blog will be chock-full of people trying to tell you how you don't understand. And as for the rest ... well, they're still grovelling at the altar of Obama. It is going to take a while before people "see the light."

February 7th, 2009 7:22pmThe requirement to retain documentation of models and proof of their age has been enforced in the USA for years. At any time publishers can be subject to an audit.
IN ANY EVENT AND IN ANY COUNTRY irrespective of other legislation, publishers will not reproduce images of models without a signed "release" and proof of age.
So I will agree with critics if they say Melanie is guilty of a bit of misdirection herself on this one.

February 7th, 2009 8:08pm"His right hand doesn’t seem to know what his left hand is doing."
While I appreciate the irony in this and couldn't keep from enjoying a mirthful LOL, the fact of the matter is his left hand knows all too well what his right hand is doing - which further exemplifies just how much of a self-caricaturizing figure BHO has so quickly become. Nonetheless, here in the U.S. Katie Couric and the MSM in general will report it differently and decidedly so, hence "public opinion," at least some substantial part of it, will follow suit, virtually in Pavlovian style. It's called "being informed."
Mere cynicism needs to be avoided, but it does provide some added mirth.

February 7th, 2009 8:13pmYou missed the the very, very disturbing bit about transferring the power of overseeing our 2010 census from the Secretary of the Department of Commerce to the White House itself.

February 7th, 2009 8:17pmThe President of the U.S. is listening to the wrong people like whose Obama’s Momma?
Its people like Pelosi-the-Porkuluso witch, who are steering Obama’s mind. They are out to stomp on those who disagree, crying by saying “I won, I won!” when things don’t the Prez’s way.
But seriously folks the Americans are in for some tough times. The Main-Stream-Media has sold its soul, the party in control will try to destroy the freedom of speech in all forums.
I strongly suggest the Conservatives launch many satellites to retain the voice of freedom, of people like Limbaugh, Hannity, Lavine, Inggraham and other free speech advocates before they ARE REALLY shut down!
Religion is also in the crosshairs sites of the evil movement that will take away their tax exemptions and their freedom to read and hear the Scriptures in their churches, because of hate crimes charges left and right.
GOD can never be over thrown nor defeated and in the end, HE will destroy those evil forces both in England, the U.S.of A. and around the world – but until HE does in HIS time, we’ll suffer from this evil black death shadow that is sweeping over our planet.
Argue as much as you want – time is being wasted on the minors, instead of recognizing the truth that our freedoms are being TAKEN away from us while we sit idling by sucking our thumbs.
Get off your duffs dear readers and do something! Don’t let those hate mongers take away what you value most. Inaction now is a SIN and will pay terrible dividends!
It’s far better to stand than not stand at all.

February 7th, 2009 8:40pmThis commentary at Power Line further exemplifies the fact that Obama's left hand knows what his right hand is doing all too well. To what extent various polities in the U.S. (and elsewhere) know what Obama's right hand and left hand are doing is, however, in doubt. Hence it's belief, not doubt, that Katie Couric & Co. are continuing to encourage.

February 7th, 2009 9:00pmTo be fair, when he said he was tired of being in the White House, he was clearly referring to the edifice rather than the institution. Hence his first trip outside for two weeks.

February 7th, 2009 9:31pmIf the Obama presidency ends as poorly as it has begun, blame for this must be massively sheeted home to the media. They did not make even perfunctory routine inquiry into his dubious church and political connections over many years. They allowed Obama to escape accountability for his party's considerable culpability in the economic disaster of recent times. They misreported the Iraq WMD issue, and the links between Saddam and Islamist terrorist groups. They gleefully publicised every problem real or supposed in Iraq and ignored any positive developments. They did not hold Obama accountable when he opposed the surge that has now delivered victory over both Al-Qaeda and local insurgents. They did not give credit to the outgoing administration for these victories. They treated Obama like the Messiah and Bush like the Antichrist. They witch-hunted Palin, often stupidly - the one criticism of substance, inexperience in foreign affairs, also applied to Obama (or should have done). They measured environmental performance by whether the candidate would or would not sign some piece of paper called Kyoto - a policy rejection initiated not by Bush but by the Clinton-Gore team under Senate pressure which may well continue to apply to Obama. Bush's emission reduction scheme has worked better without Kyoto than the EU scheme with it - no hard questions to Obama on any of this from our environmentally aware media observers. Reporters repeatedly succumbed to Obama's undisputed skill with words and failed to note the vacuous content of so many of the words. Chris Matthews said Obama made him feel something running up his leg - a clear sign of messianic presence, brothers and sisters ... Yes, I am glad as a lifelong Martin Luther King fan to see a (part) black man in the White House. But King himself said to judge on individual merit, not race - advice the media forgot. Regardless of who you voted for (and I have no fixed affiliation in the American political system), the entire media performance was puerile, unprofessionalism incarnate, and deserves but probably will not get scathing scrutiny.

February 7th, 2009 9:46pmA postscript to my previous comment. In criticising the media's soft treatment of Obama during the election, I quoted Martin Luther King to the effect that individual performance should trump race. I should in fairness have added that Obama himself did not overplay the race card. My criticism is of the media which did breathlessly overplay this card, among numerous other failings as cited in my previous post.

February 7th, 2009 9:49pmDear Melanie,
On Thursday, in further testimony before Congress on the $50 billion Madoff scam, Mr Markopolos, who had been warning the SEC about Madoff for years with no result, tore the SEC and Finra to shreds.
Asked by a committee member to compare the two agencies failings, Markopolos said, "I never thought the SEC was corrupt... FINRA is definitely in bed with the industry." Asked later by Rep. Kanjorski about those comments as well as which one Markopolos thought was better, "a corrupt regulator or an incompetent one," Markopolos answered, "I'd give the SEC an A+ for incompetence and FINRA an A+ for corruption."
The person who ran FINRA is one Ms Shapiro, who is President Obama's nominee for the head of the SEC.

February 8th, 2009 12:08amNever mind the left and right hand, this is a case of Obama's left hand not knowing what his left hand is doing. Everything he does is making things worse; the economy will now stagnate instead of recovering as it would have. Leaving a lot of debt to be met - I reckon he will print money. Mr Obama is way out of his depth. Poor man's Tony Blair indeed.

February 8th, 2009 12:45amYou MUST be kidding. America has done EXACTLY what it wanted to do. We rejected our War Criminal President and are crawling back from the brink.
Check the voting results. Check the polls. America is rolling in the direction she wants. We are coming out in HUGE numbers to get this exact result. This is what we want and this is where we are going with our President.
The ONLY people complaining are the vanquished conservatives. Obama has the highest approval ratings of any new president in our history. And don't worry, we are going to keep "doing it".

February 8th, 2009 12:47amMelanie, I wonder if you agree that the Culture Wars are getting worse instead of better. The left is taking up more extreme positions on matters such as terrorists' rights, gay marriage, state spending, government control of the economy, identity politics, positive discimination, jihadists and extreme Muslims, anti-semitism (no surprise, the left have always hated Jews), history and the re-writig thereof, the nonsense taught at universities, the rule of law not applying to violent demonstrations by them, calling everyone who disagrees with them racists, women getting all the best jobs on television, anti-smoking and now anti-drinking, animal rights nuts, violent greenies, global warming fascists and more....
So we are left either accepting all of this or having to 'fight' back. I am now in fighting back mode, every chance I get.
A modest start has been made by filling in all job applications and 'user survey'. Instead of a middle-aged, highly educated, heterosexual white man, I have now decided to be black and occasionaly female. I shall let you know if my interview success rate increases.
You see, the left don't have a sense of humour, are too serious and grim, and they hate being laughed at. Let's 'fight' them on the beaches by laughing at them. Ho ho.
PS- where is Franklin Raines?

February 8th, 2009 12:48amAs things begin is usually how they end. But as for me, I am not giving him a pass by saying it is Pelosi and those lame brains in congress. Obama stands on what he believes in.
All the campaign rhetoric was skillfully devised to hide his true feelings. Anyone who did any research whatsoever could find out his true nature and it was never what he portrayed to the public. He is a self-absorbed, inexperienced child who is bought and paid for. He allowed the buying and he did the selling out very much because it is alignment with his true nature. America is over. Now all the people who have hated America for so long because of the super power status can have a field day as the Muslims, which Obama supports, take over.

February 8th, 2009 1:50amWhen I started to hear Michelle Obama's campaign speeches last winter, I came to the realization I was listening to a Marxist and everything since then has pointed in that direction.
I warned as many people as I could. Living in Chicago, though, my impact is negligible. There was no way Obama would not win the Illinois electors.
The Left has been allowed to propagate their poison for decades. No one has led any movement to reverse what they are teaching the next generations.
Everyone is so complacent that what has come before will always be the same in the future.
We've allowed the Left to push God out of our lives, we've allowed them to paint a picture of America's past being a shameful one, and we've allowed the Left to destroy the ability for people to think.
I'm not surprised. What else would one expect?
Any shred of world peace, fight against evil, the holding back of expansionist tyranny is done... as America is brought down from the vermin within, so many in the world will get their wish of American non-involvement.. and that gives me some bit of joy... all you complaining people will get exactly what you been asking for.

At best he's 50% white and 44% Arab. 6% black is technically not enough to claim the heritage, it's around 12%. Of course, if he just presented his credentials (birth certificate) we'd know for sure and not have to go by Kenyan records. Why would a candidate spend over $800,000 to keep the public from viewing his real birth certificate? LOL

February 8th, 2009 4:10amWhat have we done? You ask as if we had a choice in the matter. Chairman Obamao was selected in 2007 by the Bilderberger group when he and the Hill met to seal the deal. Yes, actors were selected and the scripts were written. Most of his appointments are connected with the group, the CFR or the trilateral commission which can mean only one thing: NEW WORLD ORDER! It matters not that the chairman (I refuse to call him the messiah) has no clue as to what he is doing. It matters only that he follow the script which is to destruct the United States. The chairman spoke of transparency in government during the 'campaign'. I believe he has lived up to that promise. Yes indeed he has shown us very clearly that he is incompetent for the job. Some are so proud to say they didn't vote for him. Big deal. Look at what GW Bush did before he left office. He panicked the country and started the whole bailout or else frenzy. In 2005 he signed documents with Mexico and Canada that will end our sovereignty by enacting the North American Union. We don't hear too much about that though do we? The world economies are planned to collapse at some point so as to introduce a one world currency for the one world government. On the bright side several states have recently declared their sovereignty with several more to soon follow suit. States are seeing the big picture and saying 'no..enough is enough'. There is still some hope for us but many battles yet to wage. God bless the great United States.

February 8th, 2009 5:01amI am a very sad American these days. I grew up in a home where politics was often discussed and we were encouraged to participate. I honestly believe that the problem with so many Americans today is that we don't know who we are and where we came from. Our education system is pathetic, and our children are barely taught ANY kind of history. The liberals have dumb-downed the system so that children have no idea what socialism, tyranny or communism is. How do you expect them to see what it is so obviously right in front of them? Mr. Obama is a wolf in sheeps clothing, and anyone with half a brain could see it. But, when you mix a lazy, ill-informed electorate, with a supposed smooth talking empty suit and add a healthy dose of biased media, you my friends have an election that would make our founding fathers cry out in grief. I will say it is somewhat comforting to know that some of our brothers and sisters across the pond can see what some of us Americans saw before the election. Thank you for being there and saying what needs to be said!

Yeah we are getting change alright. I am neither a Democrat, Republican, or Independent. I vote according to good moral choices and what their values are. Here is my opinion of what is going to happen here. Civil unrest leading to civil revolution. Mark my words it will happen.

February 8th, 2009 5:50amWe're in big trouble over here. This president is grabbing hold of 2010 census report so he can gerrymander districts in 2012. He's writing executive orders like mad, decreeing that only unions will get government contracts. He's going to destroy small business and essentially nationalize the whole country by fiat, and when he gets to name a few supreme court justices, we'll be done for as a nation, because clearly he and the democrats do not want to lead, and they do not want to represent. They want to rule. We're in HUGE trouble, here. I can't believe I'm saying it but I miss Bush. We're going to realize that he was the LAST American president and we all kicked him to the curb.

February 8th, 2009 5:56amSome of us were screaming for months about this man. His left hand definitely knows what his right hand is doing. This is all part of his carefully formulated plans to undo any good that America is - and there WAS a lot!
Sad to say, many of the lemmings who jumped over the cliff after him will NEVER admit they were wrong. The rest of America is digging their heels in, as we watch with horror.

February 8th, 2009 7:40amMelanie, 48% of us knew during the election what you are saying in this article. The people that voted for this dangerous fraud where 1) to pissed off at Bush and cut off their nose to spite their face and voted for him 2) people on the dole that wanted to stay on the dole and get an increase. 3) trolls with no braincells, incapable of thinknig for themselves. Think Jim Jones, Haley Bopp, Charles Manson brainwashed cult followers. They are weak mindd to begin with
Those of us that voted against Zero could spot a carney huckster and marxist that wanted to take the country down. and please, don't believe everything the MSM prints. They have every reason to whitewash, lie, ignore or just plain flat out give a false perception. That is what Zero is all about-presenting a successful perception despite the reality

February 8th, 2009 7:49amOh, Melanie. You hit the nail on the head. I am a conservative American. Remember 47% of us in the U.S. voted for John McCain; maybe even more considering ACORNS heavy involvement in this election. We who didn't vote for the Emperor actually did our research and vetted this moron. The media certainly didn't do it's job as described by our founding fathers. They just kept on having 'a thrill up their leg'. Having, "the deer caught in headlights", Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House only makes matters worse. The more that goes on day after day makes me think that Larry Sinclair should have been listened to when he had his press conference. This press conference occured in front of 60 press corp at the National Press Club on June 18. What Larry said was never aired on national news and no one had the courage to investigate the validity of what the man said. You can find the press conference on Youtube. The more and more incompetence I see with this guy makes me believe that Larry might have been telling the truth. Pray for us all. This jerk might bring us all down.

February 8th, 2009 7:56amDavid Elder, don't let the comatose Obama voters off the hook by placing so much blame on the media. All of us knew what the media were doing, but not all of us fell for it.

February 8th, 2009 8:07amTwo more critical policies to add to Obama's treasure chest of creeping socialism; moving the census bureau to the White House away from the Commerce Department inorder to maintain a monopoly on rezoning for Democrat districts & money allocation...an unconstitutional biggie, there. Also he clandestinely passed a bill limiting bids on government construction contracts to unionized members of the building industry in effect discriminating against non-union builders belong to the majority of small business owners. In addition w/ the "stimulus" bill, which stimulates the govenment & not the economy, Obama further ensures his lock on welfare voters as he centeralizes the gov't & creates entitlement dependencies for the very long genrational term. Guess Obama never read the chapter on America's rugged individualim when he was studying in his Indonesian school.

February 8th, 2009 8:09amThe biggest problem for the Obama-Pelosi-Reid troika as I see it is that they have empowered the Republicans right at the time that they were so weakened, serious pundits were (wrongly) trying to write them off.
Pelosi put together a boondoggle bill which Obama did nothing to oversee. Obama has (had) the massive support of the people, he could have told Pelosi to leave the pork out but failed to do so. If they had presented a genuine stimulus bill with 40-50% tax cuts, the Republicans in Congress would have obligingly supported it to ensure they didn't further alienate themselves from the public. By being so very typically liberal, Obama-Pelosi empowered the GOP so much so, that in the generic congressional polls, they are within 4% of the Dems. Well done Eric Cantor!
BO will have some good days I'm sure, but to see the skids come off this quickly is beyond belief. So much for that great transition, four nominees with tax problems. What were they doing?

February 8th, 2009 9:53amDixon: I've criticised your posts before, but I completely agree with your comments on this article. Thank you.
I wish that more of the comments would avoid the "home run! you nailed it!" style and look in detail at this list of accusations - some of which are wildly skewed and exaggerated (as Dixon has ably pointed out). It's surely unhelpful to criticise Obama supporters for passively approving everything he does, while being passively 100 per cent approving of his critics.

February 8th, 2009 10:46amMs. Phillips:
I thought it would take about six months for the American people who did vote for this Chicago thug politician to realize their mistake. I was wrong; it has been about three weeks and I suspect there is a boatload of disillusioned voters out here in the fruited plain. Sad, it will take two to four years to eliminate these very bad actors and a generation to correct it, if we can.

February 8th, 2009 10:51amI felt so sorry for the dumbed down American masses when Obama was elected. It is obvious to those of us who lived through the Blair years that meaningless catchy slogans like "Yes we can", and "Change" could only ever come from the mouth of a charlatan.
We are not only being proved correct, and also proved correct far more quickly than even an old cynic such as myself expected.
It might be funny observing this tragedy unfold from tis side of the Atlantic if it were not for the fact that we are just entering a depression. A depression that will probably be far deeper and far longer thanks to Obama.

February 8th, 2009 11:48amI worry that we may not have a critical mass here in the US, a critical mass of sensible and virtuous people (and, if I may, people who believe in God), to save what has been a very special, very good, very important nation. The enthusiasm shown for this shallow, empty-suit popstar in the election campaign was breathtaking. The dumbest of the dumb and the trendiest of the trendy (by no means mutually exclusive groups) were almost tearful in their mindless worship of this fellow. To learn of the appointment of this man Ogden, is truly shocking in some ways, but we need to remember we are talking about a Nation that generally approves of sending 16 year olds like Rodney Hulin Jnr to prison for relatively minor offences, condemning them to unspeakable acts of perversion.
Evil flourished when good men do nothing. In the UK and in America we have rejected much that is good, and tolerated much that is evil. By our own inaction, we are as complicit in the moral decline of our Nations as Ogden himself. Can we really complain when we reap what we have sown?

Misdirection?....everything that Melanie printed here is the truth. Obama is a sleazy hypocrite who seems to be completely unaware of what he speaks...he is always turning to an underling for direction and what to say next...a real novice...and I don't believe things will improve...on top of all his other flaws...he's lazy.
Everything that many of us have been saying about Obama is coming to fruition and quickly.
We are heading for a massive train wreck.
Obama is incredibly immature and uninformed. In the past, he's known how to play the system...I believe it's just beginning to dawn of him that he will actually be expected to 'do the job' not play act.
In the meantime, The Messiah is letting other people make important decisions for him...he's already tired and bored...so off to talk about BatMan with the kids.

It's only 100 miles away, but he took AirForce One from DC to Richmond (short hop) at a million+ dollar expense -- he could have taken a helicopter there in an hour at a fraction of that cost!!! Great comments...its unbelievable the damage that Obama will do to this country to promote his socialist agenda...Obama has studied Alinsky's methods well... And I believe that is all he cares about...destruction of America as we know it. He'll most likely leave office hated... but the damage will have been done...he'll leave with a knowing smile for a job well done.
Conservative Cabbie,
I believe that Obama knew and approved what Pelosie and her cronies did on the stimulus bill. He wants other people to take the flak. This bill pushs his agenda to socialize America further..some of the laws in this stimulus bill will never go away and have been put in to undermine our Republic.
I can't tell you how angry many people in this country are right now...I can't come up with descriptive words without including swear words. People are really pissed.
I'm happy to see the Republican Congress come together....except for three Rhino traitors, Collins, Snowe and Spector... to fight this. I believe these Rhinos are in for a big surprise come election time...of course, Spector is on his last legs with cancer...he won't have the pleasure of seeing what his vote wreaked.
This stimulus bill will not work. There is no stimulus for the private sector or working Americans. This bill was written to to grow our goverment and its powers along with lots of payola to Obama supporters. It's frightening to know that people like Frank, Pelosie, Reid, Snowe and Spector have the power they have to destroy this country.
I wasn't kidding when I said it's time for a revolution...yes, Jefferson's kind of revolution. If not, we're doomed.

February 8th, 2009 5:33pmYes Ms. Phillips,
This is Mr. Obama's fall from grace in very slow motion. I have recently made amends with at least four good friends that were Obama supporters where I can literally see the “I was a mark” in their eyes. It was the United States Main Stream Media that created this in total and now at least 75% of America knows this. The other 25% do not possess critical thought process capabilities, brimming over with the MSM points of view. This will unfold until Middle America says enough which is getting close as more and more folks understand the nightly news they used to watch with their folks is no longer available nor viable at this point and duped them good! 2010 you will see radical shifting in Congress and a new POTUS will be voted in 2012. 48 months that’s it and we have relieved ourselves of what ever racist guilt we have been told to feel for decisions made 220 years ago. Nope, this one will have run its course as it’s already running amok front and center on the world stage but the strange thing is the Democrats don’t see it. The tipping point is close at hand and something akin to the fairness doctrine will bring our the true silent majority.
48 months goes by very quickly, thank God

Vision Aforethought
February 8th, 2009 5:36pm@Frank P: I lived in the US from 1991 to 2000 and Clinton was an excellent President, no matter your politics. The country amassed a huge national surplus, he created some much needed national parks, inspired people and did well for the country - no matter any personal indiscretions that were (in my view) due to the somewhat cold and impersonal nature of his other half.
I understand there are those who (perhaps correctly) believe he didn't take the threat of Islamic terror seriously enough, hence failed bombing runs against Osama. (Note: No one else has got him yet either!) Anyway, I think that was more a general flaw in American thinking at the time. 9/11 was a modern day Pearl Harbor, after all, Bush was caught asleep too.
I am not sure what you didn't like about my first comment that simply made the point that if Obama fails as a President it will be a loss to those who he may at the very least have inspired. I got to understand how African Americans feel in the US and so my point may not make much sense to some readers. It has a lot to do with slavery and how they have been dealt a bad hand from the start.
Anyway, I worry as much as many on this column that Obama may be a false hope, undo 'the American dream' through well meaning but flawed ideological policies and make concessions to enemies would will exploit any sign of weekness. IE, if you think I'm a bleading heart liberal, I'm not, but I will defend anyone if they do a good job, and I did feel Clinton applied his people skills and intelligence well for the good of the country. If he was behind the subprime crisis (I have not studied this yet), then my impressions may be tempered as those loans were crazy.
Re Obama, I think he reflects a swing to the radical left across the world and we're all in grave danger. I write this from a certain University town that as M has already highlighted, has been blackmailed into doing favors for a specific demographic group.

February 8th, 2009 5:41pmThank You, Ms. Phillips! You are one of the few bringing the flaws and faults of this 'administration' out into the open! Who knows, perhaps American brains are so addled in fat that they cannot think straight any longer!

February 8th, 2009 6:00pmRight on, Melanie! Obama is clearly part of some Communist conspiracy to bring down the American presidency. And he has done this all in just a matter of a couple of weeks. He was left a country in good shape, both domestically and internationally, by his predecessor and look at it now. Unemployment is rising and America is hated around the world. Obama will go down as one of the worst presidents in history. Keep up the good work because people must wake up to the fact that there is a major conspiracy at work.

February 8th, 2009 6:17pmAn American, you surely know how I agree with you in general. But I was referring to the specific legislation on model records. Mel said this Ogden geezer helped prevent them being enacted but they have been so enacted for YEARS already.
Now Im not one to object to object to American influence in the world, but the law in question really is taking the p$$$$. It means that if I , as a UK citizen, in the UK, take photos of a fifty year old British woman, in Britain and put them on the internet, in Britain, indeed, anywhere on Earth,I am liable to prosecution in the US where I havent set foot since 1973 if I dont keep a bunch of records in which I have a signed affidavit that the dewlapped old bat in the piccies really is over 18!
That really IS imperialism gone barmy.
Any mate of Obammies who stands up AGAINST such a law is a good geezer in my book.
As I take pains to point out, it has nothing whatsoever to do with protecting minors, but is in every way about the religious nutbats of your country trying to dump their "moral" crap onto everyone on the planet.
My view is that America is a useful friend, but not Americans, who are generally loudmouthed morons who need a kick in the crack.
But then Im biased, my brother is an American.

February 8th, 2009 6:20pmI do hope Melanie is proud of some of the sentiments she has unleashed here. The only consolation is that most of the contributors seem to loathe themselves more than they do President Obama. February 8th, 2009 6:35pmIf I seem to have gone a bit wobbly...soft on Obammie, scathing of Americans, nah, you've got me wrong.
Its just that my opinion of obammie cannot be published and Americans voted him into power! So its the inverse of what the left used to say about Bush. Americans voted for Bush, so Americans have shown poor judgement. I disagreed. And I think Bush will eventually be regarded differently.
In the meantime, Americans have elected Obamma. so, yes, they have shown poor judgement! Not the same Americans. But enough of them. Lead by the kind of loud mouthed morons who travel around the globe waging riots against capitalism and smashing up Starbucks.
Like other folks, I have said here before, Obammie is going to massively dissapoint at least one half of those who elected him, either the radicals who find he aint or the non-radicals who find he is. He cannot win. and lets hope that applies to his next election.
Although he will by default if we look at the lack of any credible opposition!
The only consolation is that its good entertainment and anyway, in the long run, nothing makes a damn of a difference about anything!

February 8th, 2009 6:45pmMany thanks, Ms Phillips. What a shame that we Americans have to read the UK press to get balanced coverage of The One's stumblings. The catamites of the US press still express little but stunned awe at The One's brilliance.
As a lifelong Chicagoan, I swing between deep amusement and horror at the spectacle of people actually expecting reform from a creature of the most corrupt political machine in America. It reminds me of H. L. Mencken's definition of democracy: "The theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard." We wanted it and we're getting it, good and hard, and right where it hurts the most. Man, it's going to be a long four years!

February 8th, 2009 7:05pmMy first reaction to GW Bush was viseral. I knew in my gut what he was and what he would do to my country. He succeeded far beyond my expectations. My first reaction to Obama was 'he might make a good President after he gets a few Senate terms under his belt.' Never in my wildest dreams did I think he would run for President as soon as he hit the Senate, let alone win. What has America done? America has in effect chosen the newly hired mailroom boy to run a Fortune 500 corporation. Obama is in over his head. He has no idea what to do or how to do it. Worse than Bush? I don't know, but I do know the anger in America is growing deeper every day. And this time we won't suffer fools lightly.

February 8th, 2009 7:08pmA thank you from an American who was never seduced by the smooth-talking graduate of that political cesspool, Chicago. It is refreshing to read spot-on comments from an intelligent British observer of the U.S. scene; an observer who is not, happily, an apologist for the left or those cowed by rabid Islamists.
A poor start for Obama, as any objective observer can state. I do not know how he can hope to govern for the next four years, given this dismal kick-off.

February 8th, 2009 7:14pmTHANK YOU. As a conservative American I worry about the state of our nation under President Obama's leadership. Not to even mention the Democratic congress. If you think this is wild, hold on for the wild ride of redistricting and, dare I insinuate, gerrymandering when the Census Bureau begins reporting to the President. Hey everyone, look at this shiny stimulus bill in my right hand while we forever corrupt any remaining balance of voice and power in the states with my left.
Goodnight America. Goodmorning Amerika.

February 8th, 2009 7:19pmOh Dear. You all seem very upset.
Democracy is a terrible thing isn't it? Becuase it only works when you get the result you want.
Now Some questions for the board - Tell the truth now!
Are you with Hennelsi on the -'you only need one party so long as its the right one' thing?.
Should voting be restricted to people who (in Mel's immortal words) 'Get it'?
Do you think that the 'Obama Problem' may be solved via direct physical action by a freedom loving patriot?
Would you support that?
Tom
February 8th, 2009 7:26pmI believe that a more accurate description of Obama's inspiration, which he may have been guided to by someone in his neighborhood (William Ayers) are the writings of Antonio Gramsci. He insisted that Marx and Lenin were wrong. True socialism would only come about through the demise of the middle-class, and that would only occur through a form of class suicide. Alinsky wrote a play-book for agitators. Gramsci wrote a societal DNA code for a slow, but ulitmately, fatal cancer. The Frankfurt School delivered it into the heart of the U.S. Middle class, academia.

February 8th, 2009 9:29pmWhy is America surprised? When his extremist associations, extreme liberal voting record in the senate, his lack of executive experience, his wife's negative American statements, were all put in front of the voters before the election,a majority of the American voters had a ho- hum response. February 8th, 2009 9:47pm"America – what have you done?!"
We've done exactly what we wanted. We elect the govt we deserve, not that I think McCain would have been much better...
To Scy I say that this "brink" we are crawling away from appears to abut a gaping chasm that we are scrabbling for with alarming alacrity.
"And as the old white male population dies off, there will be nothing left of that hideous "religion" called conservatism."
Scy, the problem - you see - is that I as a non-liberal (in the modern sense, for the Left has eviscerated the classical definition) think you are wrong, where as you think those who disagree with you are evil.
In 4 years, I see the economy is Great Depression 2.0, with all intended "help" having exacerbated the problem. It remains to be seen how much self-reflection the left is capable of, and whether or not they will see that their plans have hurt, not helped.
Sadly, I am not hopeful in that regard.
To Mr. Melrose, I would say the following:
First, no I would not - would NEVER - support an act of violence against a president, sitting or otherwise. I might not think much of President Obama, but he IS the President. I'd take a bullet for him just as I would have for Bush (either one) or Clinton. The person in the Office might be an idiot, a communist, or scum, but they ARE in the Office.
I also now notice that you seem to be so in favor of Democracy, yet I suspect that for the last several years you have railed against it mightily. Do you also think that those criticizing, dissenting as it were, should be quite and just go along? Is dissent no longer the highest for of patriotism?
Ken Stewart
February 8th, 2009 9:48pmIndeed, America, what have you done? There are 48 million of us who voted against this travesty. But I fear that our social fabric is irreparably torn, and Civil War II may be looming over the horizon.

February 8th, 2009 9:52pmI am a proud American who did not vote for Obama. Conservatives lost the White House when John McCain suspended his campaign to sign in on the bail out of Wall Street. His grandstanding (as much as I admire John McCain) cost us in more ways than I can even begin to imagine. However, not to fear! There are many great Americans who will not let their country be turned inside out by this arrogant, inexperienced and negligent man. Not only is his negligence of detriment to the U.S.A., it is dangerous for our friends and allies around the world.
God bless you, and please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Keep up the good work my friend!

February 8th, 2009 11:33pmMelanie Philips is wrong about Saul Alinksy. He was organizig the meatpackers whose houses in back of the meatpacking yards weere giubg ti be taken by the City of Chicago to expand the yards.
He was successful. In the mi-1980s, The IDf organizers in Brooklyn and the South Bronx organized churches and congregations to build affordable housing, A revolving loan fund was set up by two rich Episcopal congregations and used to help provide mortgages. The mortgage payments enabled more persons to buy houses.
This has NOTHING to do with the community organizing that Obama did. He accomplished nada for the persons who lived in that high-rise low-income urban jungle, Like the Council estates in the UK, taxpayers subsidize them so that Open Housing Laws won't be enforced.

Obama is more interested in socializing the US than worrying about Iraq...but, he's not stupid. He won't throw away Bush's Iraqi victory...Obama will take credit for as much of it as the liberal press will bestow on him...he's all politician.
This morning a Democratic Senator Bill Nelson from Florida said he'd received approx. 30,000 angry phone calls and emails from his constituents. He said "he could understand why all these people were angry at what Wall Street and the Bankers had done to the American people ...he was outraged too!"
Not a word about people being mad as hell at the Democratic Congress and this bogus stimulus bill being foisted on them...

February 9th, 2009 1:59amOdessa, Saul Alinsky sought to exploit the poverty of the people, he used them, told them what they wanted to here. To him, they were just cogs in the wheel. February 9th, 2009 2:08amI don't know what happened to the first post I submitted but it must have gotten lost in the shuffle.
Anyway, I can't remember my exact words but I wanted to get the point across that it matters not which party is in the White House. Nothing changes except the party name because the same gang of thugs have been running the show for many decades now....we just haven't caught on to their game until recently. And still there are those who are in denial, not wanting to believe our government could be so wicked and evil.
However it's time for the American people to wake up and realize that they NEED to take back their country and the Constitution of the United States of America! Our freedoms have been whittled away bit by bit and we are programmed to accept it. America has been successfully dumbed down!
The Godless media has done its job well since they too are controlled by the powers behind the scenes. Incidentally, there is not one investigative journalist left in the mainstream media any more.....why do think that is!
But we can take back control and return our country to the people....all it takes is the resolve to do it. We didn't fight the Revolution in order to give up our freedoms somewhere down the road!
But maybe we are ready for another Revolution.

February 9th, 2009 5:29amSince Obama’s earnest drive to convince the nation to weaken its economic strength through redistribution as well as weaken its national defense, COUPLED WITH HIS UNPRECEDENTED WHITE HOUSE TAKEOVER OF DECENNIAL CENSUS TAKING FROM THE COMMERCE DEPARTMENT, has confirmed the very threats to our Republic’s survival that the Constitution was designed to avert, it no longer is sustainable for the United States Supreme Court and Military Joint Chiefs to refrain from exercising WHAT IS THEIR ABSOLUTE CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY TO DEFEND THE NATION FROM UNLAWFUL USURPATION. The questions of Obama’s Kenyan birth and his father’s Kenyan/British citizenship (admitted on his own website) have been conflated by his sustained unwillingnes to supply his long form birth certificate now under seal, and compounded by his internet posting of a discredited ‘after-the-fact’ short form ‘certificate’. In the absence of these issues being acknowledged and addressed, IT IS MANIFEST THAT OBAMA REMAINS INELIGIBLE TO BE PRESIDENT UNDER ARTICLE 2 OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION. Being a 14th Amendment ‘citizen’ is not sufficient. A ‘President’ MUST BE an Article 2 ‘natural born citizen’ AS DEFINED BY THE FRAMERS’ INTENT.

You are correct about the gerrymandering. That's exactly what New Labour did after winning power. In England in takes, on average, 1/3 fewer votes to elect a Labour MP as Conservative one! February 9th, 2009 10:14amMelanie is rather selective. She harps about Geithner's tax evasion but made no mention of Henry Paulson's theft of taxpayer dollars to give to his Wall Street friends. She also fails to mention Bush's massive overspending and corporate welfare, and forgets that Bush gave the banks the big welfare handout.
One of the reasons America is in the mess it is in is because of the retards at the Pentagon wasting trillions of taxpayers money and then "losing" it.

As I said to Relugus:
Security of oil supply. As long as Saddam was barking about with a gigantic army looking for another fight there was a danger he would invade Saud. The Saudi military is barely a fig leaf to hide their vulnerability. Saddam could have seized the oilfields in a couple of days and effectively thereby would have the USA and most of the West by the proverbial short and curlies. Or worse.
He had to be removed.
Having had the directness of elective judgement to implement this alone is a damn good legacy.
You just dont know how lucky you are and how close to strategic obliteration you were.
I would add, why do you demur?
A lot of Iraqis died. SO WHAT?
A lot of Americans died...they all CHOSE to go to war when they enlisted.
It cost a lot of money...do you qauintly imagine that it doesnt cost almost as much to keep such gigantic armed forces on bases doing nothing?
Get real! The cost of the war in Dollars was the net figure MINUS THE COST OF THE PEACETIME MAINTENANCE OF THE US MILITARY. I think you will find the figure is vastly less than Gordon and Obammies bail outs of bankers.
And BTW, tens of thousands of Jihadists have been put down in Iraq. Do you suppose they would all be sitting at home playing Nintendo had there not been such a battle close to home? No, they'd be carrying out their "missions" on US and British soil. Hence the strategy of "Terrorist Superbowl" was also a success.
Iraq is a success. Bring on another!

But I do agree that Obama is making a mess of his great opportunity. Mainly he is letting Republicans stall him despite a Democratic majority in Congress. Why? Republicans would not allow this to happen to one of their own. They are bulldogs. But Democrats bend over time after time. Obama is a corporate shill with no values, so he doesn't care if Republicans strip his bill of education assistance (why don't Republicans want young Americans to be educated, exactly?), health care, any job stimulus package for women (what, women work?), etc. Obama had no experience, no job history, no qualifications. Big Business is Evil.
Capitalism is Evil.
Conservatives are Greedy Bastards...even though they pay the bulk of federal taxes and give 75% to the charities.
Gov. Health Care will take care of us all...look at socialized health care in the UK and Canada... it stinks, the people with funds come to the US for their operations and cancer treatments.
We don't Give Enough to Education and the Poor... Federal spending on Human Resources has gone up 750% (inflation adjusted) in the past 50 years to a grand total of 1800 billion dollars...defense, fiscal resources and interest by comparison have stayed roughly flat.
We attacked Iraq for their Oil...if so, why did Iraq just make a big oil deal with the Chi-coms? Did the US take Iraq's oil or revenues...No...not even to pay for the cost of the war. We did however, keep terrorists from using Iraq's oil revenues against the US and non-muslim west. Oil revenues are being distributed to Iraqi citizens right now.
Or maybe it had something to do with taking the war to the terrorists there...we haven't had an attack on our country in the last 7 1/2 years...but, let's not give Bush any credit for that. Let's have Obama's weak international stance invite terrorists to attack us here...that's a good idea.

So if Iraqis getting to choose their political leaders isn't a success, then please tell us what is? You're quick with the sarcasm but slow with substance.
This is a binary choice, either Iraq is liberated from Saddam or he stays in power. Iraqis would still have died and there would still have been an election. The only difference is, in your chosen scenario, there would have only been one name on the ballot and he'd have won 100% of the vote.

Well, England, can we move back in until we can get our feet back on the ground? It just didn't work out the way we had hoped it would. (problem is, from what I read, Barrack Obama style socialism has ruined your country too).

My comment won't have any substance in it, but I know that if I include the words "Messiah, Hope, Change, or the One" that my conservative friends will understand my snarky irreverence -- and that's really all that matters. I do this to hide the embarrassing fact that I voted to put a colossal incompetent like Sarah Palin one heartbeat away from the presidency and actually think she could handle our current financial crisis with her degree in media communications. Nevermind, I'll just make some allusions to Obama's Muslim heritage because I cannot string two sentences together coherently.

February 9th, 2009 10:09pmObama appears to be an articulate and inexperienced ametuer who has made an adult career of giving away other peoples money. He was smart enough to tap into a reserve of liberal frustration within the US media who have blindly taken him to their hearts. Sometimes fools, like the half of the US voting for this guy, need to have their way before they can understand their foolishness. This stimulus bill stimulates nothing but the Democrats egos and hunger for control. This amateur on the world stage will get us in bigger trouble in that arena than he appears to be here at home - and will likely create a disaster that none of us will soon forget. All thanks to our own media who were asleep at the wheel, and appeared to be in a competition for Monika Lewinsky's old job! .

February 9th, 2009 11:35pmAmerica - What have you done?
Why we just gave you Europeans what you asked for - a peacenik leftist who would "work with our allies". We went the other way in 2004 and a UK paper called anyone who didn't vote for the silver-haired Vietnam-era version of Obama "dumb". Here you are blaming us for giving you what you asked for. We just can't win.
You love socialism and hate confrontation, so Obama should be your cup of tea. Watch him make peace with Iran and get us out of Afghanistan and Iraq. It's what you want, isn't it?
What will it take to please you? You all went bananas over him when he toured Europe last year. You should have been careful what you wished for because YOU GOT IT.
Unfortunately, so did we. If those of you who "lived through the Blair years" knew better then why did you go gaga over Obama when he did his European tour?

February 9th, 2009 11:56pmMike Brannigan, instead of insulting the intelligence of people with different opinions, maybe you should read a little AMERICAN history. If you think this is the most miserable time we have seen,I refer you to the U.S Civil War,the REAL Depression,W.W.1, W.W.2,etc.As for the Republicans stopping at nothing to win.Not that alot of them arent typical polititions,I dont ever recall seeing in the media a story about them registering felons in prison, deceased people,or voters with liberal tendencies multiple times. ACORN did this across the country, violating my civil rights. How many conservative voters were pressured to do this by ACORN?Of course there was the media coverage of the violation of the rights of voters, mostly inner city, whos votes were thrown out because they couldnt follow the instructions on how to cast their ballot and made mistakes. Before you bring up Florida, the Supreme Court upheld the recount. The liberals are not the silent majority. But just like children, they think that if they cry loud enough, long enough, they will get their way instead of the discipline they need. The kind of people that lived by the slogan "sex, drugs and rock and roll" should just shut up.You didnt know what you were talking about then, and to think that you know more than the "dead white men" who wrote the greatest document ever,is ludicrus. It doesnt take a genius to figure out where we would be if the people who settled and built this country, and by this I mean prior to 1880,were as weak as we are now.95% of America doesnt know what the word sacrifice means.Would any of the liberal constitutional scholars out there care to define,"an enemy foreign or domestic" for me?Especially the domestic part.I would also like to refer anyone inclined to call themselves an American a book by Dinesh Dsouza titled The Enemy Within. His other books are also first rate but the above mentioned is the most relevant to this topic. It isnt Paine,Jefferson, Washington or Lincoln, but worth the read.

February 10th, 2009 12:54amI did not vote for Obama - nor did most of my friends - all of us had serious concerns about him. We still do. It is worrisome that neither major political party, but especially the Democrats, have not been able to produce a really good candidate but Senator John McCain (Republican)had his head on properly and was too much of a gentleman to call Obama out. Obama seems to bend to the will of Pelosi (Speaker of the House) and Harry Reid (a Senator from Arizona )excessively. We have serious issues here and it is downright Agatha Christish combined with Ian Fleming. There are those of us who suspect that the Democratic Party should be called something else entirely, like fascists or communists depending on who you listen too and those same people rivial Republicans. Sigh. Its a mess.
Unfortunately, the people where I work are completely seduced by Obama's rhetoric, which is very manipulative. This is all very unfortunate.
Bush was not well lived by some people and the Democratic party in this country hates Republicans. I know people who've been sacked (fired) if the boss thinks they are Republican. Nope, that's not legal but most people sigh and get on with locating a new position.
Please bear in mind that most of us 'Yanks' are normal people. And most of us are not terribly happy with Obama - people keep saying "why couldn't this have been Condi Rice or Colin Powell, they are good middle of the road people and smart about politics," well its not.

February 10th, 2009 1:32amI still think Obama needs time before he's judged. I think he was right to come out against all this extraordinary rendition business. Bush's use of clandestine torture without process of law isn't what America was supposed to stand for. As I've said before even Nazi war criminals at least got a trial before they were hung. I know some fairly right-wing people who gave Obama the benefit of the doubt and they expect to see results. If those results don't come, then he'll be voted out. So time will tell.

February 10th, 2009 3:02amAt my Talk Wisdom blog, I wrote countless posts and linked to many websites, blogs and forums that were screaming about all of the warning signs regarding
Obama. Those who voted for the fraud weren't paying attention. Then, of course, we have the ObamaBorg Bots who wouldn't change their minds even if their lives depended on it. They are drunk with the Kool-Aid - just like our Lamestream media - and have been assimilated into ObamaOblivion.
I heard that Obama bumped his head while entering into Marine one. Hope it knocked some sense into him - but I doubt it. He was on his way to try and convince (more like lecture and bloviate) to the doubting public citizens that his "LIAR LIAR CRISIS FIRE" StimuWASTE bill should pass.
Tell me if you agree that this describes Obama quite well:
To bloviate means "to speak pompously and excessively," or "to expound ridiculously." A colloquial verb coined in the United States, it is commonly
used with contempt to describe the behavior of politicians, academics, pundits or media "experts," sometimes called bloviators, who hold forth on subjects in an arrogant, tiresome way.
(From Dictionary.com reference page.)
I find it very difficult to believe ANYTHING that comes out of Obama's mouth. He has lied - time and time again - and has reneged (just ask how furious pro-life Catholics are who were lied to by Obama) on many promises made on the campaign
trail. How can anyone trust a guy like that?
All of his bloviating about doom and gloom if this PORKER bill doesn't pass just makes me ill. He reminds me of a two-year-old who stamps his feet and screams at the top of his lungs when he doesn't get his way. Obama just uses a teleprompter
to recruit support for his stupid, wasteful, and "pay to play" back intentions towards those groups that helped get him elected.
I certainly don't want to trust him with billions of taxpayer money!
I certainly don't want him using our family's hard earned income being sent to the government in the form of taxes to go to what Obama, Reid, and Pelosi think is important. THEY JUST DON'T GET IT! YOU CANNOT SPEND YOUR WAY TO ECONOMIC
RECOVERY!
Besides. The whole bunch of them seem to always forget that

Several news commentators have mentioned that if the government just gave us all
a tax holiday for two months, it would do so much more in stimulating the economy (and getting people spending money again) than this PORKAPALOOZA bill!
In addition, it would end up costing half as much as the spending bill! Makes sense to me! How about you?
Oh wait - that doesn't allow for Obama's Neo-Marxist "spread the wealth around" socialism. Can't forget about that now can we? /sarcasm off

However, what's done is done. The press wanted Obama to be president, and by dishonestly blaming Bush for the financial crisis, so-called journalists were able to paint John McCain as also being at fault thereby making it impossible for him to win.

February 10th, 2009 5:01amif you are a Christian you know that instead of complaining and fault finding that you should be praying for our new president and those who represent us in Washington. we need to pray that our leaders will seek Gods wisdom and guidance to lead this nation. we need to get involved and know who we are voting for and know where they stand on moral values when it is time to vote for our local officials. stop blaming others and take a good look at yourself. complaing about what is going on is not going to resolve anything. lay it before God in daily prayer and educate yourself on what is really going on and not believe everything you hear. most of it is opinions and views of someone else. Oboma and every one on this earth has faults. we won't overcome them by complaining. lay it at the cross and believe that this country will become a strong economical nation again. it will take time. have faith in God and you will see results. February 10th, 2009 8:02amDixon, why are you pretending to be a cretin? What is all this 'blah, blah, blah I'm more ruthless and value-free than you are' bullshit?
You know perfectly well that victory in a war is measured by the achievemnt of the initial objectives, either total defeat of your enemies or meeting certain strategic goals to strengthen your position relative to theirs.
The initial objectives of Bush/Blair's Iraq war were always very unclear, that's why there was and will always be so much arguement. This vagueness has allowed the war's supporters to make up new justifications to suit on an almost daily basis.
We've had WMD, securing the oil supply, removing Saddam (bad man), prosecuting the war on terror, bringing democracy to the Middle East, defending our allies in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, creating a theatre in which to engage and defeat the Jihadis...
Pick one or two from above.
There were no WMD and from what we can gather, that fact was well-known before the invasion started.
Is the oil supply secure? Iraqi oil was sanctioned before the war and, as far as I know, production levels remain relatively low. As for security, in the chaos created after the war the supply is under daily threat from terrorist attack inside the country. Is Iraq a major player in the world oil markets?
Saddam has been removed, so far so good, a genuinely bad man. So who's next, there are many other bad men to choose from? Having removed him and his regime, the allies showed very clearly that they had absolutely no idea what to do next. The de-Baathification programme left the country with no institutions and many thousands of disbanded and dissafected armed men roaming the country looking for an 'insurrection' to join. That is not sealing victory by anyone's standards. When Bush landed on the aircraft carrier to declare 'mission accomplished' he confirmed his position as the most stupid man ever to hold high office.
It is well known that Saddam's Iraq played no part in 9/11 and that his regime had serious differences with Bin Laden. It is also well known that Iraq was Iran's major enemy in the region and that something of a strategic balance was maintained as a result. That has now gone and Iran has been able to increase its influence to disturbing effect and to frighten many a horse in the west, particularly in Israel and the USA.
It is also worth noting that the war has created a Kurdish state in the north of Iraq which, regardless of your views on the status of Kurdistan, has destabalised Turkey, an important NATO ally and has resulted in Turkey and Iran sharing intelligence and working together on cross-border security. That is not part of any victory I recognise, strategic or tactical.
Introducing liberal democracy to the Middle East at the point of a large number of guns was simply a Neocon fantasy. How these idiots were able to get into positions powerful enough to try it says a disturbing amount about the state of our own democracy.
Saudi Arabia was never under threat from Saddam. It holds the cradle of Islam and no-one would allow it. We certainly wouldn't. We threw Saddam out of Kuwait and we would never let him near Saudi. So, get a grip.
I realise that you have no values and couldn't care less about life and principle. So you don't think it untoward that the people of a country that has nothing to do with terror attacks on the west should be invaded and suffer death and destruction on a massive scale simply to create a theatre of war for a bunch of strangers.
Fortunately, I do not inhabit your strange empty world and I do regard that justification, however contrived, to be a breach of the western values that we are justified in defending. As are we justified in defending our religious beliefs, the rule of law and our historic systems of government.
If you have no values, Dixon, what are you fighting for? If you care about so little, why do you care enough to contribute so passionately and reasonably, except when you resort to childish name-calling, to these threads?
Why do I care? Because I know that if we don't even raise an eyebrow to the pointless deaths of innocents in another country, we won't really give a damn when it happens next door. Its a seamless pathology.
And I think you doth protest too much.
The victory that you proclaim, presumably following the 'surge', is nothing more than an orderly retreat.

February 10th, 2009 8:14amConservative Cabbie, taking a leaf from Dixon's book, perhaps you can tell me why we should give a damn about elections in Saddam's Iraq? Any more than we really care about elections in Mugabe's Zimbabwe.
We invade countries to give the people fair elections?
I wonder who will invade us to allow us to have an elected prime minister?

February 10th, 2009 8:49amThis President is going to have a torrid time anyway, after all, he has inherited the worst economic crisis in living memory and an exploding deficit, as well as two misconceived, incompetently executed and ongoing wars, fundamental freedoms jeopardized and an international reputation at an all time low.

"perhaps you can tell me why we should give a damn about elections in Saddam's Iraq?"
Because democracies are more stable generally, more economically beneficial generally, less belligerant generally and more ethically sound. Simple really. Are you suggesting that the status quo was more beneficial to Iraqis and the world?
In your little essay to Dixon, you are suggesting that the war had a destabilising affect on the region with regards to Iran and Turkey. Interesting that you neglect to mention his genocidal tendencies towards the Kurds and Marsh Arabs, the fact that he is the only world leader to use WMD since Truman, the fact that he was a destabilising influence in his own right and the fact that although not a supporter of Al-Qaeda, he was a supporter of anti-Israeli terrorism. If you're going to present evidence about the world before the Iraq war, why not present all the evidence, not just those convenient to your arguement?

February 10th, 2009 3:14pmActually Cabbie, if you read my post you'll see that I was talking about the situation after, and the apparently unforseen consequencies of, the invasion; in the context of Dixon claiming some kind of victory.
Not that I disagree with what you are saying, far from it, but you have wandered off the point of my correspondence with Dixon.
Does this mean that you will call me a 'jihadi lover' again?
Ronnie
February 10th, 2009 3:26pmI suppose Cabbie, it suits your arguement to pretend that Obama's election was not, at least partly, due to the spectacular failure of the Bush years.

February 11th, 2009 3:01pmThe one thing I've grown to understand about American politics is that the President doesn't make any decisions. Sure, he can say what he wants, but Congress, House of Reps and the Senate have the last words. Try getting past them. Plus, if you use the same people to do the job (most of these people worked for Bill Clinton and now his wife works there, too), you have the same outcome. I say, fire them all and put out applications to the American public...I'm an American who can do the job!

February 11th, 2009 3:37pmI find it amusing how conservatives dismiss the ridiculously huge cost of the Iraq war and the Pentagon's fiscal incompetence and wastefulness. The Pentagon behaves like a communist bureaucracy.
The best solution to the US banks is to nationalize them, which is much preferable to giving them welfare handouts. Nationalisation protects the taxpayer and punishes Wall Street's hypocrisy and arrogance; a win-win for the American people.
Wall Street is more dangerous than Al Qaeda IMHO. These bankers will screw America to line their own pockets.
Obama should have taken a more radical approach to economic policy, sacking the useless Bernanke would have been a good start. Geithner should never have been appointed due to his association with the crooks at Goldman Sachs and the criminal Henry Paulson.

February 11th, 2009 9:18pmWell-written commentary, Ms. Phillips. I'm afraid the we in the US don't realize yet just what we have done. I was in the smaller percentage of Americans that still believed that parts of the world pose a threat to the US and to Europe in spite of what our lovely Democrat leaders and media pundits here state-side tell us. In just two short weeks we have begun kowtowing to Iran, lecturing India and Israel and granted verbal overtures to those lovely people in North Korea. Obama has now committed US taxpayers to a wonderful 287 billion dollar windfall to our frugal government, all under the guise of "the sky is falling". If it weren't before it surely will now, taking our European forebears along with it. Socialism is always good if you're France and know that vibrant capitalism is still driving the world economy. Now that we're about to embark on the same experiment here across the pond it doesn't look quite so appealing to them. Cheers! Looks like those robots chanting "CHANGE" are going to get it sooner than they wished.

While you continue to ring your hands over the cost of the Iraqi war, Obama and along with his far-left liberal cronies is busy perpretrating their trillion dollar liberal, socialist stimulus hoax on the American people?
Are you saying that Geithner is only a crook because of his Wall Street connections? Geitners has always been a crook..most people without character are... and he'll be right at home along side the biggest crook and liar of them all...the One, the Messiah.
The US Congress is arrogant and corrupt through and through...how much of that trillion dollars do you think will find its way into all these far-left liberal patriots pockets?
Our local Democratic Mayor has as one of his stimulus projects, replacement of two wood doors at a local community center...the price? $135,000 plus work for 11 people. Yeah...for a wooden door.
That's the Democratic party using taxpayers money work for its citizens...

After the Democrats tried to overthrow the election system in 2000, a situation that has worsened in each election since, I predicted that the American Republic would fall to chaos and dictatorship within 50 years. I stand by that prediction. There are so many corrupt forces at work in the political system now -- and many are dedicated to the destruction of the economic base that is America's true strength -- I have told my children and grandchildren to prepare themselves for a future that will look nothing like America's past.

"Lousy appointees aside, Obama is still very popular and very much trusted."
A good point, however, the lousy appointees has burst the "Obama is a different type of politician" meme that was prevalent before he took office. As Charles Krauthammer said (and I'm paraphrasing); "whilst Pres. Obama is still popular, the magic has gone and you never get that back".
If he's fallible in the peoples eyes, their desire to cling on to his "magic" will have seriously diminished and he becomes more susceptible to the ebb and flow of political fortune.
Interestingly, I had a look at his approval ratings. Whilst high (mid 60's), that doesn't compare all that favourably with previous Presidents who tend to be in the seventies early in their Presidency. I think he beats 4 going back to FDR including FDR, Nixon, Ford and Bush Jnr. However, he doesn't beat them by much and they all improved their approval ratings within their first few months in office. Obama's approval ratings on the other hand are falling. Yes he's popular, but he is a long way from being uniquely popular as many in the press would have us believe.

"The one thing I've grown to understand about American politics is that the President doesn't make any decisions. Sure, he can say what he wants, but Congress, House of Reps and the Senate have the last words."
Spot on. Richard Neustadt famously made that point in his book 'Presidential Power'. Because of the constitution, the President is weak in domestic matters and has to rely on congress. It is a President's task to utilise his power (usually his electoral mandate) to coerce Congress to do his bidding. It's interesting that when I read about Presidents, often they are judged not on what they did for the country, but on how they dealt with Congress and whether they left the Presidency powerful or in hoc to Congress.
This is likely to be Obama's biggest task I believe. It won't be Obama vs The Republicans (they're too weak right now), it will be Obama vs Pelosi. They're both liberals, but Obama has to appeal to independents thus causing him to move to the middle. Pelosi doesn't care about bipartisanship, she just wants to ensure as much of a liberal agenda is pushed through Congress as possible. There will be a moment when Obama has too choose between signing or vetoing a particularly liberal bill which won't appeal to the country at large but which Pelosi wants. That will be his test of whether he is a strong President or not.

You dissapoint me.
Does it really make any difference if it's Obama or Pelosie calling the shots...they are both avowed, far-left Socialists.
If nothing else, the latest stimulus bill should tell you what direction the US is being pushed in. Not a single Rep. Congressman voted for it and only 3 Senate RINOS. This bill is nothing but a full sprint to socialism...it builds more goverment and takes control of banks, our health programs, etc. anything it can get its hands on.
Obama is using Pelosie and Reid to push his agenda, he's even more liberal than Reid and is on par with Pelosie. He's devious and has been busy giving speechs everyday now, lying his head off about what this stimulus bill contains and trying to convince the American public he is reasonable... and a really, really nice guy...What a manipulative fraud!
But, I'm not sure how long Obama's act will play with his adoring liberals. They really expect him to come through with physical 'goodies' for their votes. Did you recently see that ridiculous woman ask Obama for a new kitchen and car? And he told that he would do his best and turned her over to his staff. One young black woman said she wouldn't have to worry about paying her mortgage or gas bill when Obama was president...
That's the kind of witless people who voted for him.
This perpetrated fraud is going to crash big time.
The US owes the Chicoms trillions of dollars with no way or means of paying it back and is in the process of spending trillions more in the future... more money that we don't have...they're just printing out play money.
The US has now indebted each American family of four to the tune of $130,000. And if you consider that half of those families don't pay taxes, it really comes to $260,000 per working, tax-paying family...and the Congress' spending-orgy isn't over yet.
There isn't any hope for America and Americans unless we have a revolution...

You might find it interesting that now we're hearing that Obama is going to help people who have purchased too expensive of homes for their incomes. He's proposing that the gov. give these freeloaders up to $300 per month and the banks give up to a $300 discount...I haven't heard the particulars. But, again the responsible among our population will continue to be forced to give their hard-earned money to the irresponsible...and you can bet they'll take it without so much as a thank you.
We're a country that is definitely in decline...when you have almost...49% of people not paying taxes and getting all the benifits and 51% of people paying for all those benifits...it won't take long for us to go under...glug...glug.

February 13th, 2009 3:09amThank for great article Mel. How about some accurate stats? Per 2008 census, which of course may be an unconstitutionally mute organization in the future, here are the published numbers: Approx 303 million USA citizens exist of which 213 mill are registered to vote. 68 million voted for BHO, so if we agree these current census stats are accurate; 32% of registered voters chose BHO or only 23% of the country. From these figures, how do people get "48%" or "1/2" the country voted for BHO? Umm, not per the stats! The remaining 68 or 77 % of America (whichever stat you prefer) are waking up to the inelligible fraud who temporarily resides in the white house. However, the posts about the higher conspiracies and MSM not doing their job are correct. Follow the money and who owns the media? SadUSAgirl,
I hope you are right about the revolution...interesting that Obama compares himself to Lincoln. Maybe history really does repeat itself...we had a civil war during Lincoln's presidency...I can see it happening when Obama and his liberals cronies use the census to force a one-party country. Also, the so-called 'Fairness Doctrine' they are pursuing...will take away our free speech. Those two things might just bring Americans to their senses and be willing to fight for their country and its diminishing freedoms...and some sanity.

February 14th, 2009 3:10pmHere's for all you naive people who kept chanting "give the socialist Obama a chance." A chance to do what? kill us?
WASHINGTON - Congress approved protectionist measures in a $789 billion stimulus bill Friday that U.S. trading partners have warned could spark a trade war.
The bill, however, left the Obama administration some room to maneuver to appease other countries who say it will benefit U.S. companies unfairly.
The stimulus bill was approved by the House Friday afternoon and by the Senate later in the evening. It now goes to President Barack Obama who is expected to sign into law quickly.
------------------------
You don't give people who say they are going to kill you a chance to kill you. I'm not trying to rub it in your face. This is disastrous for everybody.
Remember that a majority of Americans opposed this Act and were powerless to stop it. It was passed out of a secret committee of lobbyists at midnight and voted on the same day at 10 AM, before legislators and the American people had a chance to read it, much less debate it. This is how the US government operates under Obama in the "new transparency" that he promised zombie voters. We are in "chains nobody believes in" until we re-assert our God given rights.
Iraq owes us one. Come to think of it, so do a lot of nations. Where is Canada when we need them?
They did this "Quickly!" How dare they!!!!! You have to sneak socialism into the USA "to give politicians a chance" at the trough before the masses have time take up arms. Time benefits tyrants and the enemies of freedom. Some of us here tried to tell you.
I guess none of that matters any more. We have lost our freedom until we choose with God's help to be free again.

Unfortunately, my New Mexico state Senate is completely controlled by a very corrupt far-left. You could compare us to Illinois or New Jersey. The liberals outnumber and can ignore conservative reps. and go right ahead with their socialist agenda... putting us farther and farther in debt and continue to pass liberal laws designed to force citizens to accept a debased lifestyle.
When corrupt Gov. But, not to worry, Obama will bail his pal Richardson out...They are all living in the twilight zone.
So, unfortunately, I disagree with you...I think our states are going the way of the federal goverment...

Pelosi scored a four in 2007 with the conservative watchdog group, ACU. Obama scored six, then freaked-out his communist supporters when he "moved to the center" during the election to eight. Reid scored a huge twelve, which qualifies him as deep thinker among leftists. For comparison, McCain, who many Americans complained was too liberal to be president, scored 82. A score of 82 is where most Americans say they are--in the center right.

I did vote for McCain.
But I held my nose while doing it. I knew he wouldn't win. He was too old and had zero charisma and many in the conservative base didn't like his political stance on many past issues and stayed home on election day... what bothered me the most about him was that he was too intent on always compromising and joining with the left. They used him terribly over the years...remember how Obama backed out of McCain's campaign funding bill. A bill that McCain wrote with another far-lefty.
If McCain had won...he would have been forced to compromise with the socialist Congress on many social issues, how to handle captured terrorists, etc. etc... but, hopefully, would have held firm on the budget and used his veto power...but the lefties in Congress could have over-turned his veto with their dominant vote power...McCain was fooled by his liberal friends all these years. I wonder if he will ever wake up to that fact.
We don't see Obama and his cohorts compromising on a single issue...it feels like Nazi Germany in the 1930's.
I'm not frightened...I'm just mad as hell.

You are a positive soul. Thank you for your kind, common-sense words.
It goes without saying that many, many Americans are incredibly unhappy with the direction our country is heading.
How is it that your PM is unelected by your citizens...how does that happen?
You do know that Obama is planning on taking over the Census and redistricting the country so that Democrats will be in power for perpetuity? He plans to have the east and west coast...Sodom and Gomorrah...in power.
I understand that's what Labor did in the UK...and Obama is following suit. How did Labor pull it off?
It's this kind of thing that has many Americans so furious.
Obama and his cronies are also planning on shuting down conservative media.
Apparently the Republican Party is going to bring in lawyers on both of these issues and fight it to the Supreme Court. I'll definitely donate money and time to that cause.
I really believe that the liberal Congress and Obama have no idea what is in store for them if they try to do this. Their arrogance is truly overwhelming.
Yes...I along with many conservatives will work harder to overturn this socialist agenda...but it won't hurt to rattle our sabres to let these creeps know that they are in for a real battle.
You are right on your last point...in my state, the liberals, most of who are Hispanic, are in control, population wise and many of them hunt and are gun lovers. But, I don't think you will find that so on the east and west coasts...they are all a bunch of pansys.
If things get really bad, many of us are talking about moving to other countries...we don't want to support this goverment...we are the achievers with the money that the liberals feed off of and then call selfish...let Obama and his cronies see how much tax money they'll get for their socialist projects from their non-tax paying constituents.

Many of you have made comments that illustrate your justified frustration about what America is turning into. I’ve tried to be optimistic publicly and privately.
If you won’t listen to me, here’s the most optimistic (almost to the point of my being giddy) retort to your pessimism.
Rush Limbaugh: Is it time to panic? No, my friends, it’s not time to panic, because nothing gets done in a panic. What we have to realize is this: the left, the Democrat Party, will not control the government forever. It just will not happen. They are going to overreach. They’re going to overreach pretty quickly.
Polling data already shows that, in a generic race for Congress, it’s tied Republican and Democrat. Only when you put the names in... Nobody can believe this. Fifty-six percent of the American people now are in opposition to the stimulus in total or in part.
He’s just warming up...
Not one Republican from the House, not one Republican Senator is involved in the conference between the House and the Senate to come up with a bill that both support. Not one Republican in this new era of responsibility, not one Republican in this new era of bipartisanship. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have shut the Republicans out. This is from Mike Pence, congressman from Indiana.
So, let ‘em go ahead with these tactics. We can’t stop them anyway. We lost the election. But they’re going to lose down the road. They will not control government forever, and when our turn comes, we are going to turn the power of government against the left. We are going to investigate them. We are going to hold public hearings. We are going to humiliate them. We’re going to nationalize their unions. We’re going to fund our groups for a change.
If they can give ACORN $4.1 billion then we can start paying our groups with federal money. We’re going to do exactly to them what they have done to us. We’re going to build and use the Big Government that they have built and turn it right against them. We are gonna turn the power of government against the left, and against Democrats in ways they cannot imagine.
They will not know what hit them. They are using the law. They are using government to advance a cause that is un-American. We are going to use the power that the left is centralizing in the federal government to punish them, to break ‘em up, and to make them pay for this. It’s time for tit-for-tat. Nice guy playing by the rules when they don’t, is over. It’s time they got a taste of their own medicine, and it’s going to happen, folks, because they’re not going to hold power forever.

February 15th, 2009 3:42pmThe left--you people, you Democrats--you are creating a monster that you will not be able to control forever. You will ultimately regret what you are doing just like the media will ultimately regret its sacrifice of reason, its abandonment of its primary purpose. The day is coming when the media will actually investigate a Democrat and find some problems and nobody’s going to believe them because they’ve lost all credibility. Nobody believes what the mainstream media says now anyway. Except the uneducated, the illiterate, and the uninformed--which, sadly, is a fairly large number. Well, we’ll deal with that.
We are taking names. We are taking names now. We are monitoring who on the left is going to deserve payback, and it’s going to be hell. This much I promise you. This is just getting out of hand.
We’re gonna come after the left’s favorite corporations. We’re going to come after your favorite political constituents. We’re going to come after your favorite media outlets. You want to try the Fairness Doctrine? Fine. We’ll impose it on network television. We’ll impose it on newspapers. You want to try censorship? Fine! We will censor you when we get the control of the government back.
We will reapportion districts using the Census to help conservatives. We’re going to turn the power of government against the Democrats and the left and weaken and break you into little pieces. Because, my friends, the day has passed when we can become passive and be passive about what they are doing. We will use the political and the legal system as they have and are, and we will use it to promote our party and to diminish theirs. We will use the power of government and legal system to promote our movement and our agenda, just as they are.
If they are going to bastardize the American system, if they are going to make this government large and powerful and intrusive, someday they’re going to lose it. But they’re going to lose it after having amassed all this power. We will control it, and we’re going to turn it right back against them.
We will build a massive army of patriots to counter ACORN. We will defund ACORN. We’ll defund the labor unions, and we will fund our own people to go out and zap ACORN. And we will do everything we can to enhance anti-union employment. We will make sure that when companies lose money, that the people that get canned are union people. We’re going to use the power of government just like the left is using the power of government. We’re going to use the Justice Department.
We’re going to go after big unions with the Justice Department. We’re going to find all of the criminal activity. We are going to find all the lack of ethics. We are going to find every bit of corruption we can, and we’re gonna sic the attorney general and the justice department and the US attorneys on you people just as you have been doing to the people of the right and the Republican Party for 50 years.

God bless these people. What has this government done to them? What has the media in this country done to these people, depriving them of the very essence of humanity? No sense of self, no pride. This is what Democrats and the left do to people. They rob people of their humanity, of their goodness and their decency. They rob them of confidence. We are going to restore this.
We are going to use the power of the government to tell people how good they can be, how important they are, and how much happier they will be if they’re not looking to our president for the next kitchen or the car or a job.
We’re going to become activists. We’ll take back our government.
It’s going to be a bigger, more powerful, stronger government-- and we’re going to turn it against the left in ways they could have never imagined.
So, we can’t do any of this if we panic.
I know some of you are saying, “Rush, it all sounds great, but who’s going to do this?” Well, folks, I admit that you look out on the horizon right now and you don’t see a single person in the political class willing to do this. But before these people on the left get through, there is going to be so much anger and outrage among the people who made this country work, who are now being targeted as the enemies.
You who have jobs, you who have played by the rules, you who are not asking anybody for your next kitchen, you’re the enemy--and it isn’t going to be long before the people of this country get fed up enough that they’re going to want to turn the tables on the people who are trying to destroy America as we have always known it.

February 15th, 2009 3:45pmThey want to talk about investigating George W. Bush for war crimes. Well, by God, I want to investigate Barney Frank! I want to investigate Chris Dodd! I want to investigate Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, and all these things. I want the truth to get out, I want to use federal money to fund our groups and our organizations. I want to investigate George Soros and find out just exactly what his role has been in precipitating this economic decline we’re in for the political purposes of defeating Republicans and electing Democrats.
I think that between now and then, hopefully there’s a battle that is raging within the conservative movement over what conservatism is and who is going to lead it, and the same thing is happening in the Republican Party. I’m hoping all this happens to coalesce. There will be efforts made to bring all this to bear.
I know it sounds like it’s a long shot, but this is what we hope to inspire, because it’s payback time.
It’s not enough just to beat these people in elections. It’s time to give them a dose (or multiple doses) of their own medicine, and it’s something I want to work toward and see to it that it happens.
It’s not time to panic yet.
I hope this helps.

February 15th, 2009 4:10pmCC, I hope you don't mind. I posted Rush Limbaugh's words previous to this post for An American and other An Americans.
The process, not the system, disenfranchises us. Comrade Pelosi in the House has rewritten rules for how bills become law. The rules exclude everyone except Dems. The only voice we have is in the Senate when they filibuster, but Reid in the Senate changed that rule, too. We are not just saying that representative government is dead. It is. Pelosi and Reid are as much tyrants as any Roman ruler. They are both Catholics, which will not stop them from spending eternity in hell with monstrous spirits dipping them in tar and flouring them in chicken feathers.
Meanwhile, back on earth the President blows "bipartisanship" smoke up the media's noses. This is no small achievement. The MSM has their noses wedged into a tight space in the Oval Office.
Yesssss, I feel better for saying these things.
We are disgusted with the process and wish to preserve the system. That makes us counter-revolutionaries. We've been using the wrong term.
We're new...
A counter-revolution doesn't have to be armed to be successful. We've just witnessed the socialists take over America through a peaceful election without a shot fired, just as Hitler did.
I am hoping for a legislative counter-revolution at the state level and am doing those things you suggested--volunteering at the Republican Party and various other civic duties. Sarah Palin even said that was the way. But, An American has the added trauma that his state officials are socialists. My state officials are Americans, so I'm disenfranchised only at the national level. My heart goes out to him and others in that situation, and if they make a noise against the tyrants, I'll join them because I'm a patriot.
Also, the discussion of revolution is not sensational. It is common and right, as long as the intent is to preserve the union and uphold Constitutional rule of law. The Constitution acknowledges citizens' rights, and provides justification, to overthrow tyrants and restore the Constitution, as needed. Citizens who do not when confronted with tyranny are lazy and selfish, as An American hints in his posts. He recalls that portion in the constitution.
Many people now are talking about revolution and civil war. They recognize signs. It would be the second civil war between the Republican and Democratic Party if it happens. Back then, the Reps banned the Dems from entering Congress for twelve years. Wouldn't that be fun?
I admit the talk of arms comes from frustration and anger. It is a way of expressing how deeply I feel about the nation that I love and would die for. I want Our Dear Leaders to hear "revolution" and tremble. But, I really do not have anything to back it up, and that is equally frustrating. I have never touched a gun! I do not know any underground counter-revolutionaries except on the innernet at this board. I appreciate the pitchfork idea immensely. I would learn to use a gun if I had to.
God would be blessing us if we have the chance. The truth is we have more to fear than the opposing side. It is more likely they will "get us" first. If we were blessed with a war, I would be definitely on the side of the counter-revolutionaries. I would console myself if we lost because useful idiots like Oprah and Barbara Streisand will have two-hundred families move into their hundred-room mansions.
It is a fact that the only way back is if citizens overthrow the tyrants. The question is whether citizens have the character and opportunity to do it.

I have stored it in a very large file called 'empty rhetoric'. In fact most of the other contributions in this thread are in there too.

February 15th, 2009 6:53pmbeloved,
I appreciate your comments and agree with everything you say...You are right on!
It feels good to get it all out there...doesn't it? And it also helps me to know that others feel as I do...that I'm not alone in this madhouse.
Sometimes I feel like just walking away from all of this...but I can't. I plan to be even more involved than before...and you're right, I not only want to set things right...I Want To Get Even!
If I could curse...I could come up with some really interesting descriptive words for these far-left socialist losers and what they are doing to our country.
I'm with you..."I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more"...a quote from a liberal move...how amusing.
Thanks for the pep-talk, it invigorated me.
Aww Ronnie,
You must be British...there's no way you could be an American and not somehow understand the angst, we who love our country ...are going through. This is not about a lost election...this is about a lost way of life, a lost country.
You can be amusing at times, but in reality, your sarcasm is out of place here.

February 15th, 2009 6:56pmHowever, beloved, I really hope you keep posting great long monologues like the ones above.
We get that here every two months or so. The last person who did it ran off to start her own country, as I remember. Don't expect much of a response, they bore everyone to the edge of reason.

February 15th, 2009 8:07pmPlease, don't, oh, please, stop, you are causing the masses to get angrier and pushing us in the briar patch of our dreams. I've saved your response, ronnie, as a reminder the next time I want to cut a useless idiot some slack.

This is a blog, it's not free counselling (or actually...).
beloved, don't bother cutting anyone any slack, its not like you intimidate anyone as you wander aimlessly in the 'briar patch of your dreams'. You've turned this thread into an episode of 'Frasier'.

February 16th, 2009 11:37amTo An American and other Concerned Citizens:
So, you want a counter-revolution... by Red State
Now, I know some of you think that I and a few others are whack jobs over our assertions that we are in the midst of a coup d'etat. The Manchurian Candidate fully intends to make the US into a socialist state with a Labor Party made possible by card check and an alliance between that Labor Party and the Democrats. I know you don’t believe it, but believe it. I’m not certain that he CAN do it, but I am certain that He and, more importantly, the people who pull His strings want to do it. And I can only add that I’ve spent most of my adult life dealing with communist-trained union and community organizers--most of you haven't.
First, we shorten our lines and essentially abandon DC. I advocated this long before the Obama Revolution, but Republicans really need to make news in Republican states, not in enemy territory. Republican Congress People show up for committee meetings (most anyway) and votes. The rest of the time, they're home in the district talking to the folks.
The point of the counter-revolutionary spear is the Republcan governors and attorneys general. Every state that has a Republican executive or a Republican legislature should declare war on the Democrat Party and its union and non-profit allies.
There isn't a union in America whose dues structure could withstand Constitutional scrutiny under either the federal or state constitutions. States should go after those dues and not leave it to poor individual employees to protect their right not to participate in the "social, fraternal, and political" activities of unions through compelled dues.
If you're a right to work state, sue the unions in federal court for using their compelled dues in your state to promote "social, fraternal, and political" activities. This one has a pretty good chance in the federal judiciary.
Turn down the federal money and enforce the federal rules on money you accept. Republican governments are funnelling money to all sorts of Democrat front groups in the form of non-profits that are fed by government. Audit them! Make them file their reports! If they won't file their reports, and most can't, cut off the money. If you can credibly charge them, put some of them in jail. I'll guarantee you that with a small team of auditors, I could put ANYBODY in America that receives public funds in jail.
Make them pay taxes. Just because they're tax exempt under the IRS' rules doesn't mean they live up to your state's standards for tax exemption. If you're an income tax state, revoke their tax-exempt status in your state if they play politics--and they all do. If you're not an income tax state-- listen Governor Palin-- pass an income tax that singles them out and taxes all that wonderful tax free money they get from elsewhere.
I can go on for a while, but if I'm going to write a book--and I am, I'm going to get paid for it.

February 16th, 2009 11:55amAn American,
Thank you. You made my day, Hoss. :)
Jesus and Ronald Reagan are watching and are so proud of us.
Check out Red State and Heritage. People who think like us are everywhere--except secret committee meetings in Washington DC.
We're gonna get 'em good!

If beloved’s posts niggle you why do you say:-“I really hope you keep posting great long monologues like the one above.” ? If you think:- “they bore everyone to the edge of reason.” – It would suggest that you are occupied in undermining the blog and you are glad you are getting some help?
Anyway You include ‘everyone’ in sharing your opinion. Really! Who are you to police a good ‘ol heartfelt rant? From what I’ve seen of your uptight sniping you could do with a good purge yourself.
Speaking for myself I’m only too glad to see some colourful natural spontaneous outbursts occasionally even if I don’t always read them all the way through! So don’t assume everyone needs you to speak for them thank you.

February 18th, 2009 2:08amMy country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From every mountain side
Let freedom ring.
Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom's song;
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.
Our fathers' God to Thee,
Author of liberty,
To thee we sing,
Long may our land be bright
With freedom's holy light,
Protect us by thy might
Great God, our King.

Their tops are made out of rubber.
Their tails are made out of springs.

But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers is,
I'm the only one.
I'm, the only one...

February 21st, 2009 8:18pmI was sending emails about obama and realized if a man(?) can be elected president of the United States of America without even being an Ameican citizen, then how is my emailing things to take the wrong people out of the positions he puts them in... going to work?
It is the end times and obama is bankrupting our nation purposely to make a one world government. The blood is on the media and everyone that voted for obama. Even if he didn't win the election, Acorn would have had him win... afterall... obama just paid them $5.5 BILLION.
There is only one hope for America... Jesus Christ!
and... obama is trying to get rid of Him anyway he can.. but
obama... you can't and you will reap what you sow!
O buy the way... obama's birthplace in Kenya is a national tourist attraction!

February 24th, 2009 7:24amI agree, America WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
Those very same words go through my head everyday I hear about him on the radio or see an ad about him online, (i've officially stopped watching the news, since they just brainwash people anyway). Two things scare me, firstly, by the time I graduate and become an adult, Obama's term will be ending and what will be of this country then? I live by LA, will it be nuked? I am white, will I get to go to college? I know I am young and I may not know as much as most of you on here, but you democrats don't realize how scary it's getting for us younger republicans. I am christian and have right winged beliefs, will I be able to get a job? I have dreams to and it's not fair that 99.9% of America couldn't google this guy up a little bit more to find out who he really is! It's not fair that they had to destroy, not there lives, no, but the next generations! It is my generation that will be a MESS, it is my generation that will be paying off your depts! Its an even more frightening thought to think that we might live in a 'world government'. Not only that, but Obama behaves worse than Lindsay Lohan. I mean really have you seen his love for publicity? He acts more like some movie star than the president. Where are the good guys? Why is are government so messed up and leftist now? How did it get that way!?

February 24th, 2009 9:00pmScaredAdolescent,
I wish I had answers to all of your concerns. I have grandchildren your age and they have the same questions and fears that you have.
Although things look really bad and in many case, are bad...My hope for you is that you not give up and become complacent...that you stand strong and fight this continuing socialization of our great country.
You will not be alone...even though the liberal press will try to tell that your are alone...close to 50% of Americans state they are middle-conservatives. And when Americans wake up to what Obama and the socialists are bringing about...I believe there will be a real resurgence of conservatism. Many of the socialist bills the liberals are passing can be undone in the future. Look at how Pres. Reagan turned things around.
I can tell from your blog that you have standards and common sense. Your parents have done well by you.
We badly need intelligent, conservative future leaders like you, both male and female.
My advice to you is to get involved politically, don't be afraid to speak up for what is right for you and your country's future.
Study and know what you are talking about...Study world history...unfortunately, history seems to repeat itself.
People will listen to and be led by people who are knowledgeable. Learn about how our federal and state goverment were formed and how it works, memorize our Constitution and what being a Republic means. Surprisingly, most Americans have no knowlege of these important things. The very things that are the basis of what their future will be.
Learn to speak well in public...believe it or not, this was the main reason Obama was elected..fight fire with fire.
You're right, Obama is all about Obama. I find it sickening how people worship him. My grandson went to one of his campaign speechs at Colo. State. He wanted to see what it was all about and couldn't get over how people behaved. Apparently, many of them have no God and have replaced God with Obama. And, its very worrying to see Obama take advantage of that sad fact. Obama is following in the footsteps of many past dictators.
But, you can learn from this phenomena too...most people want to be led and leaders..use that knowledge...you too, if you desire, can be a leader.
And finally, I have to apologize to you on behalf of all of us adults...we have let your generation down. We somehow let socialism slip in...its been very slowly seeping into our society since FDR's New Deal but has taken a giant step with Obama and Pelosie's and Reid's far-left liberal Congress.
But, I certainly plan on fighting on...after all, we're not 'Americans for Nothing'...and I hope you will too.
Thank you for your blog...keep the faith...there is hope.

February 25th, 2009 5:08amI answered you, too, Scared, but my post didn't show up. Be encouraged. There's a backlash coming and you are part of it. It's already started. I also said you should read Ben Franklin's autobiography. He describes how he became educated apart from formal school. He read books. I suggested the same for you and mentioned that there are websites dedicated to self-educators like yourself. Home schoolers have resources for college curriculum. Look for reading lists or create your own.
My hope doesn't come from politicians. It comes from people like you. We need you. Do not give up or give in. There's too many of us out here for us to give up. God Bless you and your generation with wisdom and courage.
FYI, I've been fighting socialism my entire life and never voted once to raise anybody's taxes.

March 7th, 2009 4:04amMelanie, I am a once-optimistic American, who is scared for my country. We have a kid playing grown up in the White House.
He is either completely inept or purposely making a mockery of the US presidency. His staff is a joke - a bunch of tax cheats (Geitner and gang), bumbling idiots (Biden and Pelosi), liars (Clinton and her Bosnia tale, amongst other stories) and bullies (Raem Emanuel).
And not one of them understands (or seems to care about) the economy. Why else would they rush that package of pork and ignore the stock market.
Obama "Mr. 57 states" says more idiocy than Bush in a shorter period of time and gets away with it.
Late night "comedy" shows don't even take advantage of his slew of lameness. So I can't even get a good laugh out of all this pain.
This is going to be a long four-years.

March 31st, 2009 9:26pmRe your column about the evangelical/radical Islamic connection/alliance. I know that some Jews have an instinctual dislike of evangelical Christians. To suggest however that there is an alliance of some sort between Islamic leaders and evangelicals, is patently ridiculous. There are no doubt some fringe christian groups who hate Israel and the Jews, bur they are truly a fringe. All of the prominent leaders of the Evangelicals are very pro Jew and pro-Israel. Think about Rick Warren, Billy Graham, Hagee, Robertson, Wimber, Chuck Smith, Hal Lindsay, TBN, 100% for the Jews and very much against the liberal wing of the Christian church. The latter are pro Arab, land for peace, pro negotiation with the hatemongers of Islam, all that. Do you know what an Evangelical is?

June 29th, 2009 2:57amAs csn be seen from some of these liberal comments, they just don't get it. They still think Jimmy Carter was great. If if wasn't for Raegan cleaning up his mess, we'd have been down the tubes now. I lived through the Carter years, & believe me ... it wasn't fun!
