Condolences

Wednesday, 25th February 2009

How very sad that David Cameron's six year-old disabled son Ivan has died. Like so many, I was  touched and moved by the devoted way in which the Camerons cared for Ivan. Now that poignant and short life has ended, and we must feel for them all at this difficult time.

Yes, I would also like to extend my condolences - I look at my 3 children and I cannot begin to imagine the pain I would feel to lose one of them.

Grief beyond imagining. Prayers and condolences for the Camerons. It pains me to think that within a week or so he will have to go on. I never cease to admire such strength and fortitude.

Indeed - a horrendous thing to happen. Extraordinary that both Brown and Cameron have bost lost young children. It's always worth being reminded that politicians suffer from th same agonies as everyone else.

There is no pain greater than losing one`s child but I do know one thing from personal experience - that when this happens you are immediately surrounded by love, prayers and help from every single person with whom you come into contact - family, friends, medical staff, neighbours, people you just know by sight from passing in the street- and total srangers. It is freely given and the source of huge strength and comfort on which you never cease to be able to draw, both at the time and for all the years to come. Clearly, this tidal great wave of loving support and strength has already begun to build, as witnessed in the Commons, and it will sustain and uphold the Camerons and never let them down.

I read the shocking news and my eyes prickled. Not my usual reaction to deaths of strangers I must add. Cameron is a decent man, evidenced by his public manner and obvious devotion to his family. That the death of his son was completely unexpected makes his loss doubly hard. I have suffered a similar grievous experience and it eats away until you feel completely eviscerated. I hope that he and his family can find meagre scraps of solace until the passage of time blankets the rawness and a light shines again. It will happen but unlike all the temporal plans of mice and men cannot be controlled. Faith and the future is all there is. I am sure that David Cameron has the strength of character to carry himself and his family through this awful voyage and in the meantime offer my genuine and heartfelt condolences.

Many condemn Cameron as merely a notting-hll liberal Tory. Whilst some of this criticism may be merited, no one can deny how this man has grown as he has married and become a father. I will continue to give him credit for the way he has stood up for marriage, and for the way he been agood father to Ivan. Bless you Samantha and David.

I do not claim to know David Cameron well, though I think I have seen enough of him in action to sense that Ivan's life and his struggle with disability has undoubtedly instilled a greater humility and empathy in the Tory leader as a human being.

These are qualities in great statesmen that invariably temper for the better the momentous decisions that they are often called upon to make. One day Cameron will surely look back on Ivan and be forever grateful for the kind of man that he caused his father to become. This will be Ivan's lasting legacy to him.

Three other short lives ended Yesterday as well.Pity that Parliament doesn't recognise that fact and withdraw the troops.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Cameron family, and other families in similar situations. There are no words...

Make that four other short lives....and the Armed Forces are still being sent into action in vehicles totally unsuitable for the conditions they face.
The death of a single child is something to feel sorry for but the continued death of our young men in the forces which in some cases could have been avoided are never mentioned by the "great and good" in parliament.
