As predicted, the UN’s satirically named ‘Human Rights Council’ has now passed a resolution aimed at restricting criticism of Islam religion, or ‘religious defamation’. As Roy W Brown writes on Index on Censorship,
... the majority of member states of the Human Rights Council are united in a single purpose: not the promotion and protection of human rights, but the prevention of the exposure of their own human rights abuses.
Another shutter comes down on freedom.

March 26th, 2009 11:05pmOmg, this is just ridiculous.
Is the World asleep, in a deep slumber? Is there something in the darn water? Wth is happening?
Grrrrrrrr!
What's happening to our World?
This is just like a nightmare, the only difference is, I won't be waking up...cos its damn real.
Islamisation of our countries is happening before our eyes.

March 27th, 2009 2:05amThis is merely symptomatic and nothing more. If one is surprised by this, even remotely surprised, then one may as well be surprised that a leopard has spots. The U.N. as a whole hasn't even come clean concerning the various sexual scandals that have occurred under its purview.

March 27th, 2009 6:18amMayor Bloomberg must invoke Kelo vs. New London and get the U.N. off those 18 acres of centrally located, river view Manhattan real estate. The United States, Israel and all nations that want to live in decency and freedom must pull out of the U.N. NOW. I've been saying for years that Israel's only hope of survival is to tell the U.N. to go-I won't say what, because if I do, you won't publish the comment-itself with a fire extinguisher.

March 27th, 2009 8:27amA link to the pdf of the resolution: http://ap.ohchr.org/documents/E/HRC/resolutions/A_HRC_RES_7_19.pdf
Given certain verses in the Koran concerning Jews, Christians, ex-Muslims, and people not "of the book", the resolution seems to give States a good excuse to proscribe the Koran - or at least certain commented versions of it. They haven't really thought this through, have they?

March 27th, 2009 9:48amWhat can we expect when the UN is made up of losers and dictators

March 27th, 2009 9:53amWe're in the twilight years of Democracy and we must use this time to vote for honest, pro-democracy politicians, and try to get the corrupt UN disbanded, banned and cast aside in favour of a United DEMOCRATIC Nations organisation.
Original Tony
March 27th, 2009 3:53pmNannette I agree but please don't use the word 'democratic' in the title. That word is synonymous with failed states like the democratic republic of congo, north korea, east germany etc etc.
It would be better to use the acronym UNRITH which would loosely stand for the United Nations of reasonable, intelligent, hard-working tax-payers.
Smug people who like the look of themselves in the mirror would be banned, like Carl, Laird and Hazlitt from these pages; not forgetting "The Oracle"

March 27th, 2009 7:20pmDear Original Tony
"Smug people who like the look of themselves in the mirror would be banned, like Carl, Laird and Hazlitt".
To state that myself and others are smug also implies we are correct.
I am just a humble Glaswegian from working class roots for your information.
Yours sincerely

Wrong. Smug implies YOU, George Laird, think you are right.

March 28th, 2009 11:42amNot strictly on-topic, unless you take the theme to be the inexorable march of Islam in the West, but there is an important article by Rene Servoise, former French Ambassador to Indonesia, about the rapid growth of Islam in France, currently reproduced online in the Brussels Journal.

Thanks for the compliment. I appreciate your comments too, except, I have to say, the one's that quote Biblical prophecy. My belief is that all religions are manmade.

March 28th, 2009 1:23pmMaybe its time for a new or reorganized UN where as a membership requirement a country would have to give proof of a real democratic governing system.
I.E- a UN of democracies, not Islamic theocracies, African dictatorships, and Banana republic dictatorships, where the symbols of "western oppression- the US and Israel, are always the enemy.
What do you think?
An American
March 28th, 2009 5:57pmMiranda Rose Smith,
I agree with you. I only hope I live long enough to see construction workers dynamite the UN building and see it implode into a smoky pile of rubble while the UN's cronies are put on planes for home with 12 hours notice. But, that won't happen until we have a President and Congress with b...s to do it.
If the American people had a say...they would vote 75% to dissolve the UN. Talk about taxation without representation.
It's amazing to me that the US and western countries continue to give our taxpayer billions to the UN to receive only abuse in return.
This 'politically correct' brain-washing has been going on for decades and will continue to get even worse under Obama and Clinton.
Now the UN wants the US to come up with billions more to refurbish their glass palace...I believe that's why the UN General recently implied we were cheap skates. Never mind the financial timing.
Let the UN and its cronies move to Venezuela...they all have a lot in common with Hugo Chavez and can contiue their nutty 'Star Wars' community there.
Indigo121,
That's fine idea...but the way the US is going under Obama, we wouldn't be able to be a member nor would most other western countries...unless you include far-left socialist countries.
Democracy is sadly losing its footing.

March 28th, 2009 6:07pmd1carter,
I wish it were true...but, I don't see it happening unless something really drastic happens. I won't go into it...it's all too depressing.
How could the US and world governments be in such terrible shape in this enlightened time...Is it because the internet has opened up this big bag of worms for all of us to see what is really happening out there?
I really believe that you could select 1 out of ten people off the street and they could do a better job governing than the bozos we have now...hey, maybe its because they are all lawyers.
