You cannot leave us without out fix. How are we to cope with the BBC? At least I do not have to buy the Guardian

Melanie, forgive this poisonous food for thought, but I wondered if others have come across a similar anti-semitic dish at recent dinner parties? I've just come back from a couple of days amongst an ex-pat community in France - one evening the rabid resident socialist at the table frothed at the mouth on learning of my teaching at a private school: 'revulsion is the instinctive reaction of any normal person at the continued existence of such a wicked social anachronism', etc, etc. His wife sat there silently knitting at the guillotine as he beheaded me. More fool me, I rose to the bait, rejected his arguments out of hand, retorted with some of my own cliches, to wit, the cream always rises to the surface, regardless of circumstance, you can't keep a good man down, bla, bla, bla, - individual struggle is the refiner's fire that proves one's gold, etc. I also cited dubious types like Bernie Eccleston and Alan Sugar as barrow-boys made good by their own efforts, etc. 'Ah!' piped up said guillotine-knitting spouse suddenly, 'but Sugar's just an East End Jew who was helped up by his own kind.' Stunned, I choked quietly on my creme fraiche peaches and left as soon as dignity and due consideration of my host's feelings allowed. What amazes is not so much the nauseating sentiments involved, but the emetic facility with which your socialist unconsciously regurgitates them. - So tacitly ingrained in Leftist thinking is the anti-semitic mindset, and so impermeably fixed therein, one truly fears for the future of Jews and Jewish culture in Europe. are we really going to allow it all to happen again?

In the absence of Melanie's brilliant writings, readers here should read this report on how Alan Solow, one of Obama's close Jewish friends and supporters, is speaking out about his misgivings and expectations of Obama and Emanuel as reliable friends of Israel.

Very eloquently put James Murphy I'm sure you made a good point or two at the dinner, as indeed you have here. I'm waiting for the day when some of our more notorious immigrants are pinpointed and held up to what they are and what they stand for.

Need your daily Melanie fix?

There's a rather vicious debate between Melanie and Dershowitz over on Front Page mag.

Dersho is left floundering and resorts to the usual ad hominem and straw man tactics so beloved of lefties since they don't actually have any real arguments.

A perfect example; He leads off with this mendacious confection of insult and misrepresentation;

Dershowitz: "What does Melanie Phillips, a staunchly right wing supporter of Israel have in common with Noam Chomsky, a rabidly hard left Israel basher?"

Sounds like a joke. Dunno Alan, give us the punchline.

"They both believe that liberalism is incompatible with support for Israel, and that Israel’s only true friends are right wing conservatives, Christian fundamentalists and neo-conservatives. They are both dead wrong, though their views are widely shared by many extremists on the hard right and hard left."

Groan. Neither smart nor funny.

I guess there must be another Melanie Phillips out there; a hellish cross between Medusa, Immelda Marcos and Sarah Palin, and Dershie has them mixed up.

Read it all.

James Murphy, I find talking to most lefties a pretty unpleasant experience, as their worldview is shaped by hatred, rather than anything positive and optimistic. That's why they align themselves with Islamists, because they are full of hate for Jews and the West as well.

I also find they are never shy to shove their opinion down your throat, even when you try to steer the conversation away from politics, and act all shocked when they realize not everyone is of the same "mind".

What charming company he must have been!

@James Murphy. I have been in the company of a French woman who espouses the same, I was stunned. And anyway, what if Alan Sugar WAS helped by his own? (I have no idea.) If he builds a company and employs people, that is a LOT better than those leftist fools who hand out money to drugged up losers on the streets of Oxford - who in turn feed their habit through bicycle theft when the gullible well meaning students are on their hols.

As a very informed colleague once said, this is all about envy. In the US, they respect Jews because they really do create something from nothing. (As do others, it is just that Jews - like first generation slave trade blacks - really did have everything taken away from them so had to start from nothing.) Lefties have often been spoiled by the state and need to learn the meaning of starting from zero or worse. And they need to abandon the victim mentality. "Woe is me, so damn your success!"

James...alas, the whole world, not just Europe, will soon turn on Jews.

Any of you want to join another blog that mainly discusses US politics? If so, come over to www.conservativecabbie.com

Dershie:

Hey Judah don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her under your skin
Then you'll begin
To make it better

Mel, there's a poster called EC over on Martin Bright's thread who thinks Mr Bright might be taking up a bit of time with you on the phone!

Dershowitz on Front Page, Martin Bright here, perhaps you're turning into a one-woman counselling service for lost intellectuals!

Regarding flabslab's comment: One gets the impression, on hearing the incredible rationalizations of those--like Mr. Dershowitz-- who voted for the New American Messiah but are now having buyer's remorse, that they would rather see Israel become a smoking ruin than make common cause with--yuck!--social conservatives like Sarah Palin.

Regarding James Murphy's comment: In 1959, Peter Viereck said that, "Anti-Catholicism is the anti-Semitism of the intellectuals." In 2009, we may have to revise that aphorism to "Anti-Semitism is the anti-Semitism of the [leftist] intellectuals."
