The emasculation of America by its 44th President

Sunday, 21st March 2010

Terrific blog post at the Telegraph by Nile Gardner who absolutely gets the point about Obama’s catastrophic strategy of sucking up to America’s enemies while kicking its friends in the teeth:

In the past month we’ve seen ample evidence of this with the State Department’s appalling decision to openly side with Argentina against Great Britain over the Falklands, and the White House’s bullying of Israel. Meanwhile, the Obama team swiftly issued a groveling apology to terrorist sponsor Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, for earlier casting aspersions over the Butcher of Tripoli’s call for a jihad against Switzerland. A barbaric Islamist tyrant with American blood on his hands is, incredibly, treated better than the leaders of both Britain and Israel.

...In the space of just over a year, Barack Obama has managed to significantly damage relations with America’s two closest friends, while currying favour with practically every monstrous dictatorship on the face of the earth. The doctrine of “smart power” has evolved into the shameless appeasement of America’s enemies at the expense of existing alliances. There is nothing clever about this approach – it will ultimately weaken US global power and strengthen the hand of America’s enemies, who have become significantly emboldened and empowered by Barack Obama’s naïve approach since he took office.

The Obama presidency is causing immense damage to America’s standing in the free world, while projecting an image of weakness in front of hostile regimes. Its treatment of both Israel and Britain is an insult and a disgrace, and a grim reflection of an unbelievably crass and insensitive foreign policy that significantly undermines the US national interest.

As a result, the world’s tyrannies are now looking upon the nation that is supposedly the protector of the free world with undisguised contempt at its self-induced weakness. As Jennifer Rubin notes at Commentary, while Hillary Clinton and the Obamites went ballistic at the ‘insult’ to the US of Israel’s housing policy, Clinton herself was subjected to a public and humiliating dressing down by none other than Vladimir Putin. Rubin observes:

Putin has figured out that there is no risk — so long as you aren’t a small democratic ally of the U.S. — of incurring the wrath of the Obami. No condemnations or even frowns will be forthcoming. This is, you see, what comes from throwing ourselves at our adversaries’ feet and scorning our allies. Adversaries learn to take advantage of us while friends learn not to trust us.

Weakening America and strengthening its enemies. Yup, that was all in the prospectus when Obama ran for power. And now we are beginning to see its mortal effects.

Presumably, we can now look forward to the French being forced to hand over French Guyana to Brasil now in the hands of the undiplomatic Pres. Lula (refusal to acknowledge Th. Herzl whilst in Israel whilst toadying up to the ghost of the arch terrorist Y. Arafat) and rqcist to boot ("white blue-eyed bankers"). Whether the French will accept as supinely as the British will be entirely another matter. And, remember the French make a much smaller contribution to NATO in Afghanistan and always go their own way. Interesting days ahead.

There'll be plenty of Obamites who'll always blame "dem Jews" for America's ultimate decline.
The trend is already obvious, with "general" Petraeus's pathetic Obama-inspired declaration to the effect that US failure in Afghanistan etc are Israel's fault.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if one day Obama were to announce that "certain rogue elements linked to Israeli intelligence, in conjunction with persons known to have links with Jonathan Pollard, have become "persons of interest" in the ongoing investigations into 9/11."

"The New York Times" et al would then publish consonant op eds by the likes of Walt and Mearsheimer, and Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod would aver that their loyalty has always been to "the great American People."

The preening suit of self-regard and smug contempt that is Obama seems to think that running America is some kind of lovely-dovey outreach programme. It will all end not just in tears but in blood.

You are so right. Obama's goal all along has been to bring the USA to its knees. Jerome Corsi had his number long before he became President

I think you'll find Putin has been humiliating Americans for some time. Weakening America and strengthening its enemies is a fairly good summary of the Bush years.

Let's not forget Turkey. Whether you agree whether about the Armenian Genocide or not, you do not push an important ally into the hands of your enemy.

"Obama's goal all along has been to bring the USA to its knees."

Are you actually serious?

"It will all end not just in tears but in blood."

Oh right. And Bush's presidency foreign policy didn't involve much blood did it? Oh no, of course not.

The fact is that Mr. Obama hasn't actually reached out any genuine hand of friendship to any of America's many 'enemies'. He hasn't made any genuine attempts towards an equitable dialogue with Iran, empty rhetoric aside, or stood up to Netanyahu's belligerence.

It looks as if Obama's health care bill will pass in a few hours time, let's hope that allows him to gain some momentum and confidence to take a just position in The Middle East. I pray that he does as we are clearly on the cusp of a third intifada with the hope of any meaningful progress slipping away. I heard Saeb Erekat say Netanyahu must choose peace or settlements. I think Obama must choose peace or Netanyahu. We should all pray to God that he makes the right decision.

King Prawn: Obama didn't alienate Turkey, Congress did. And the low point in Turkish-American relations came in 2003 when Turkey refused to allow the U.S. to invade Iraq from its territory. As for Putin, Melanie, who said: "I looked the man [Putin] in the eye. I found him to be very straight forward and trustworthy and we had a very good dialogue. I was able to get a sense of his soul."

Is that the same Saeb Erekat who told CNN that he was standing on the bodies of 3000 people in Jenin, promised he would go back and admit his mistake if he was wrong - and it turned out to be 52, 37 of whom were armed terrorists? The man is a liar.

Yes, let's bash Israel, the only ally of the US in the Middle East, (do you think the Saudis are your friends?) and listen to the Saeb Erekats of this world.

By the way, this bill you applaud will bankrupt America - it will never recover. Enjoy.

Funny how the British foamed at the mouth with George W. Bush - a man who was actually fairly well disposed to the UK, whilst Obama, who hates Britain (first thing he did as President was remove the bust of Churchill - and anyone remember his refusal to meet Brown, even after several requests, finally meeting him for 10 minutes in the UN's kitchen - or his present of 25 DVD's?) is put on a pedestal by the British. Now he's backing Argentina.

Go figure.

One looks at the opinon polls in America and tries to find comfort in the fact that, yes, it has woken up to the damage it has done to itself by voting for Obama and that many Democrats will lose their seats at the mid-term elections.

But Obama won't go until at least 2012. What if Iran has the bomb by then?

The Democrats don't even care about losing seats over Obamacare. Once that has passed, there's no going back. They have made America an inherently Left wing country.

Who ever thought The Last Great Hope on earth would end up like this?

Maybe it's a good thing the bust of Churchill Obama so disliked (probably to do with what Churchill said about Islam) isn't there to witness disaster of a presidency. How demeaning to Churchill to have to sit his bust in a room with a pair of maggots like Obama and Rahm Emanuel.

Well the Health Bill is still going through and one expert has stated it will pass but by a tiny vote due to the usual pork barrel antics of the Democrats - no change there then. In the fall the dice will be tossed and the Democrats will suffer heavily from pushing through a bill that the majority of Americans do not want.
Anyone find similarities in the UK?

On the brighter side, Obama has a minority following now, the country is quickly turning from a brief elite of semi Marxists, led by the 'New York Times' (equal to Britain's BBC), to a country with 'Fox News' in the lead. It will be all down hill from now on for Obama. Even Bush is starting to look like a long lost hero.

Andy Cox,
I concur with what Adam B. wrote-and then some. Understand this, sir, we are not dealing with Mr. Bush, but an Obama who is so out of his league it is frightening to watch such a man at the helm of a world power. As for the alleged belligerence of Mr. Netanyahu, considering what he and his people must contend with daily from their 'peace partners', the wonder of it all is he has been so restrained. Snap out of it why don't you, and stop reading and believing everything the Guardian pumps out to feed the flames that is the Middle East. When it comes to passing the health care bill in the US, I guess you are one of those who believe that there are incredible millions without health care there, but should you ever do research on this subject, you may be surprised at how few in fact there are going without it. What, if anything, ought the US do re those 20 million illegal's now in residence there, supply them with health care coverage as they will for those who are legal residents who have forever paid into the treasury of America? I am thoroughly sick to death of you and your ilk who forever preach on how the US should conduct their own business, usually at a distance far removed from it. Indeed, you really ought to have a word with your own PM on how well you think the NHS system is functioning.

What I would like to know is, how to liberal, presumably well meaning types, read comments like those of "march22am" and not realise the kinds of people that they are taking sides with in this conflict? Or do they realise, but turn a blind eye to it?

How do they justify it to themselves? And then have the audacity to complain that "they can't criticise Israel without being called an anti-Semite"?

The hypocrisy, lies, betrayals, are becoming unbearable.

It's not Palestinians that I have a problem with, it's the liberal left that take sides with them that really scare me. And THEY are the people that Obama, Milliband, et al, pay attention to. And so, I fear, will Mr Hague.

The American's experiment with Mr Obama is going to last until the 2012 election results, not a minute longer.

What the enemies of the US,Britain and Israel should realise but are too arrogant or dogmatic to do so,is that the next Republican President will have a freer hand to sort out foreign difficulties and re-engage with traditional allies.

Another "Bambi" will not be tolerated by the Americans and Iran and others would be well advised to make their peace with them now.

They will not like what they get in 3 years.

Hello Adam B,

"Yes, let's bash Israel, the only ally of the US in the Middle East,"

I have absolutely no intention of "bashing" Israel. I am not the least bit engaged in childishly simplistic shouting matches along the lines of...

"Israel is wrong." "No, The Palestinians are wrong." "No, Israel is wrong." "No, The Palestinians are wrong. "No, Israel..."

That doesn't get anyone anywhere. All that happens is we get a list of different incidents get thrown by both sides and it always ends up with something that God said thousands if years ago. It's no basis for a reasonable debate about the problems facing two peoples who live no more than a few miles from each other here and now. I'm not interested in taking sides.

"By the way, this bill you applaud will bankrupt America - it will never recover. Enjoy."

I have neither 'applauded' nor indeed passed any comment whatsoever on Obama's healthcare bill. The only time I mentioned it was in brief reference to Obama'a political position now that it has been passed. I'm not interested in getting into a debate about that bill which is why I haven't commented on it here or in my previous post.

I think you have imagined my comments rather than read what I actually wrote.

"The American's experiment with Mr Obama is going to last until the 2012 election results, not a minute longer."

I proffered a similar prognostication back in 1997 when the Blair-Brown machine was produced from the bowels of Hades and kick-started into motion. Thirteen years later ....?

But the socialist status quo once started has the impetus of a giant oil tanker: once pointed in a direction it requires more than the mewling resistance of a few irate bloggers to turn it around, particularly when the MSM are in charge of the boiler-room and are also represented on the bridge.

What's to stop it in the States? The disdain displayed by the Pelosi balmy bitch with her giant gavel, towards the Tea Party protesters yesterday, indicates just how little the Obami's fear the electorate; they know that welfarism will cow any movement within their apparently lobotomised and Obamified society, just as it has with ours.

As for our own predicament; we seem to be relying on a boat-load of bullshitting Bullingdon Boys punting towards the socialist tanker singing the Eton Boating Song to halt its turgid progress and seize control. Not much point really when even if they managed to clamber aboard the Ship of State, they would steer it in roughly the same direction, if their sketchy and incomplete published charts are any indication.

Get used to it; they are bad times a'coming. Let's just hope that a generation will emerge that can read history and realise what's happened, then tear down the socialist edifice that has just been topped off States-side. Looking at the raw material available, I doubt it.

Hello Maura Collins,

In your comment you wrote at length about my supposed comments and opinion on Obama's healthcare bill. I have neither commented on or expressed support for that bill, so perhaps you could apologise for inventing what I am supposed to think in your head. As it happens, I do have experience of living in The U.S.A. I also have a "pre-existing condition" and so have quite some knowledge of the intricacies of America's health insurance system. But, as I say, I have not and will not be passing comment about it on here.

You also said...

"Snap out of it why don't you, and stop reading and believing everything the Guardian pumps out to feed the flames that is the Middle East."

I would just like to say that I do not read The Guardian, or any other British newspaper, so your accusation that I 'believe everything they say' is another invention on your part.

Now, for the record, I have quite some contact with Jews and Israelis both in my personal and professional life. I am not interested in anti-Jewish rhetoric or Anti-Israel prejudice. I know of many, many Israelis and Jews who are very concerned about Mr. Netanyahu's 'belligerence' despite the fact that they are committed to both their faith and their country. I share their respect and love for Israel and the Jewish faith.

Israelis, Palestinians, Arabs, Jews, Muslims, Christians and Druze live alongside each other and will continue to do so forever. No Israeli is more than a few miles away from a Palestinian and vice versa. We have 11 million people, approximately half Arab and half Jew. Greater Israel is Greater Palestine. There will have to be some kind of reconciliation and resolution process eventually. Whether two states living side by side (which seems increasingly unlikely), a confederation of two autonomous regions or a single state comprising two peoples.

Sooner or later, the Israeli electorate will come to realise that it is not in their interest to mortgage their whole state on the defence of a few thousand fundamentalists and the colonial settlements in which they live. America (and not just Obama, Gen. Petraeus' recent comments are a welcome public articulation of a widely held view) is coming to understand that her own interests are not being served by sponsoring Israel as has been the case.

As America begins to re-calibrate her behaviour to reflect the current challenges before her, the Israeli electorate will be forced to change its expectations. Times to move on, the holocaust is now a part of history, as is The Cold War and so too will be Americas's War On Terror. Israel will need to understand and move on also. For her sake and for all of ours.

Andy Cox

What I actually suggested was that Obama has, so far, done little more than offer rhetoric on many foreign policy issues. This has impressed no-one. Perhaps this will change in the next stage of his presidency.

You're spot on with your "bowels of Hades " analysis of the Gramscian abomination in control of our daily lives.
My concern that CMD and chums are more Berti Wooster than Winston Churchill is negated somewhat by the proposal that any leadership change can only be to the right.
In the run up to May I'm torn between UKIP and the Tories.
Why the Tories when UKIP's policies strike a chord with me?

I don't think we can take 5 more years of this treachery and am scared witless a split right vote lets them back in.

The US need not fall the same way and many of my American friends cite whats happened here in Britain as ample warning.

The second amendment allows the American people the luxury of saying enough, something unavailable to us.

The Obama Administration should bear this in mind.

I suppose you still think so highly of Erekat that he is worth quoting?

And your proposal that Obama hasn't been appeasing enough to America's enemies is laughable - or would be if it wasn't so tragic.

Obama - bow and scrape to America's enemies, treat your friends like crap.

Obambi is so out of his depth that I felt sorry for him; during his health-care "summit," a freshman Republican humiliated Obambi over a bill which he knew nothing about. He made all the noises and motions of someone who is completely at sea and trying desperately not to look it. Like a school boy who hasn't studied his lesson.

A young Fox news anchor Bret Baier also humiliated him by knowing his bill more than he did, calling him out on double-counting a half trillion dollars, and the stuttering sounded like a toddler going "blub, blub, blub," with his finger on his lips.

Obambi's friends--Ayers (Three people died. "Guilty as sin, free as a bird, what a great country"), Wright ("God DAMN America")--all people who gave him his political consciousness, are blatant in their hatred and contempt for America and it was entirely just to state that their intent all along was to destroy America, and their track record shows that it is now entirely just to state that their intent all along is to destroy America.

America isn't big enough for their egos.

We're getting to the point where the "confederation" that Andy Cox so evidently desires is very nigh upon us. He doesn't realise, however, that it will not be in the shape he has in his mind. It will surely be a Jordanian-Palestine confection next to an Israeli state - much as it is today. Back to the future. Palestinians and Jews do not share culture, religion, language or history. The Jordanians do.

The writing is on the wall for the US, 'laid in the balances and found wanting'. The risk of an anonymous proxy attack with multiple car or boat carried nuclear weapons is now very high, and Obama has done little to stop it and quite a lot to increase the risk, not that Bush did much before him either.
Bad leaders are often a judgement for continuous folly, and don't we know it in the UK too?
